I just came across a website for DelGrosso’s Amusement Park, in Tipton, PA. According to mapquest I'm only about an 1-1/2 hrs. from there, but have NEVER heard of it. Anyone ever been there before? What is it like? Our boys will be 5 and 1 this summer and it looks like it might be geared towards their age groups.

We do Knoebels at least a couple times a year and I wonder how this compares??

TIA

I don't live in PA but have visited this park while on vacation. It is a nice park, somewhat small, but great for little ones.It is very geared toward little kids but also has a nice water park connected to it.It would be a great day trip.

I live in PA and never heard of the amusement park or Tipton PA. I will have to google it.

I live in PA and also have never heard of this park! We go to Knoebels and Dutch Wonderland though! I know there is also a Storybook amusement park out towards Pittsburg somewhere (not sure of the exact name of it). I will have to check out the mentioned park. Where is Tipton?

We live about an hour away and my MIL buys tickets for the whole family every year to go in August. It also has a water park attached to it so when you buy tickets you might want to add the waterpark option. The main park is great for young kids - my kids really have a good time there. The water park is great for older kids (they have some really good slides). My favorite amusement park for young kids close by me (Western PA) is Idlewild. We usually get season passes and spend most weekends alternating between the Pgh zoo and Idlewild. Depending on where you live, you might want to consider Idlewild over Delgrosso's.

I spent many summers at "Blands Park", before it was renamed. My dh and I now take our 3 dd's and I love it as much now as I did then. It is not a big park, but they have a surprising amount of rides. They also have a small waterpark, and go-cart course. I no longer live next door, but we travel 90 minutes to enjoy it. We think its worth the drive.

We live about 1 1/2 hours away and it is one of our favorite parks to visit. It is clean and they have rides for young and old. The waterpark for the younger children is clean and fun. The water is only about 1 1/2 feet deep but they have a huge pirate ship type playground in the middle with lots of slides and things that squirt. They have a huge bucket that dumps water every time it gets full. They have water umbreallas that just spray showers of water.
The food is decent. There are lounge chairs and grassy areas to lay out blankets. The amusement park is right across the street and accessible by an overhead bridge. There are large slides at the back for older and taller children that are also lots of fun. I would highly recommend you check it out.
Also, if you buy the DelGrosso spaghetti sauce they run specials with labels that get you a $6 discount per person. :cool1::thumbsup2

We've never done the waterpark (the waterworks looks like fun, though), but the amusement park is nice for little kids. You can either buy a pass or pay per ride via tickets. The ticket method is especially good if your 2-year-old decides he's going to hem and haw about riding and ends up not stepping on a. single. ride. ;) (This, after he rode Goofy's Barnstormer twice earlier in the summer, but I digress.) They have a dedicated Kiddie Ride area, most of which can't be accompanied by parents, but some of the other rides are appropriate for little kids accompanied by a parent. There's a nice carousel, and the food is pretty decent, if fairly typical "fair" type food. Good pizza.

Tipton is about midway between State College and Altoona. Neither of which are bustling metropolises, but they'd be the closest reference points, I think. Or, it's about an hour north of Breezewood, town of motels - since a lot of people drive through there.

I live in South Western PA, my DH has heard of this park and says its ok. I have been to Hershey Park and really enjoyed it there. We stayed at the campground and they do have bus trans. like disney. Busses run every 20-30mins. they have the park, zoo, gardens, chocolate factory tours and 3-D movie. BUT.... Disney still tops the chart!

It's a great park for kids. If you have Delgrosso's sauce products at your grocery store, they usually have a $3 off coupon inside the label. The food there is great and very reasonably priced too!

Last year was the 1st year that we went to the water park and we can't wait to go back again. The rides are OK, but we really enjoyed the water park. My daughter is 6 and she just loves this park. It is in the mountains and away from a big city area.

Upon the enjoyment of my daughter, we stayed in the water park most of the day and in the evening went to the rides. AND you can't beat the price. It is under $15 per person for all day, for all the rides and the water park option. Like is was stated, the Delgrosso's products also have discount coupons.

Thanks everyone for your info! I'm glad I'm not the only one who hasn't heard of it.

I like the fact that it is pay as you go, since I have small ones. Anyone know if the parking is free? DH would like that. ;)

How far is it from State College, anyone know? I'm just trying to decide if we should stick to Knoebels or try this one.

Parking is free - the lot is across the street from the amusement park (on the water park side of the street). You can either cross the street or walk over a bridge to come into the amusement park side. Depending on where you live in State College I would think you could get there in about a half hour.

Awesome, thanks. We are actually about 45 minutes from State College, so I think I'd figure about an 1.5 or so.

With the new interstate, I don't think it's even 1/2 hour from State College (not sure, though--you might want to mapquest it). It's a sweet park, esp. for little ones (as others have said).

I was glad to come across this thread. I'd never heard of Delgrosso Park until recently (when I saw a coupon inside a sauce label last year), though we go to Kennywood and Idlewild Park every year, several times each. My DH's band is playing at some sort of bike rally in Johnstown in June, and since we'll be in the area I was considering making a trip to Delgrosso's. I'm happy to hear it's a good park for small children. DD is 6 and loves amusement parks and fairs. It sounds like it might be a good option for a day trip while we're in the area.

I just hope it's not too crowded since we'll have to go on a Sunday. I usually like to hit parks on weekdays to avoid crowds.

Just thought I'd bump this up, since it's that time of year again, when we are considering what parks to go to over the summer. ;)

We made it to DelGrosso's Park last year, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Everyone was very friendly, the park was clean, and the food was good. It was also very reasonably priced. We used the coupon off the spaghetti sauce to save some money on our admission. We ended up going on a Friday, the last week in June, and it wasn't too crowded.

The kiddie area consists of a bunch of go-in-a-circle type rides, but that's what you expect to see at most amusement parks, I think. There were also a couple of games, for an extra fee, of course. At 45" tall DD was big enough for pretty much all but one or two rides in the main section of the park though, and we spent more time there than in the kiddie area. The wild mouse was rough, but DD loved it. The pirate ship was smallish, but a lot of fun. The park is small so you don't have to do much walking, and there were plenty of trees, benches, and flowers. It's not as 'nice' as Idlewild Park, but it was nice enough, we thought.

DD, 6 1/2 at the time, LOVED the water park. We spent about half the day there. DH also took her for a go-kart ride. We even returned for half a day on Sunday, before heading for home. Sunday was a little more crowded than Friday, but not unmanageable. We didn't get around to the mini golf. We ran out of time.

We are planning to go back this year, since we will be in the area again. :goodvibes

I grew up going to this park and am hoping to be able to make it there with my girls this summer. The girls love Idlewild, so I am thinking they will be excited to do this park too. Nothing compares to Disney, but it is nice to have these smaller parks so close.

The only advise is NOT to go for July 4th, WAY overcrowded and not fun at all. I am pretty sure they are also closed on Mondays.
