Hurricane Gustav (forcast models in first post) Be safe those in the path!

People WTH is up? We are all facing Gustav. Kathy lost her dad and this is dredging up all that that means. Back off!

New Orleans is the focus period the end. It's not our fault. If you have a problem with it, call the frickin' networks.

I really don't think that anyone wants the absolute total devastation that would take the focus off New Orleans. If you do, then you're  .

Not close, I lost my Dad.

I am sorry for that....

Still Mississippi did suffer deaths and as a state suffered more damage over all but was talked about very little almost as if hurricane only effected N.O.

Now with this approaching hurricane people are already heading warnings and making arrangements to be ready to go.

I'm hoping this thing will just veer off to.... ???? That's the trouble, I don't know where it should go. :(

So many of us are praying for our Gulf Coast friends safety. We know the destruction that Katrina left behind and do not want that for any of the coastal regions. I know that I don't know how to pray, and have been reduced to asking that Gustav goes away :sad1:.

For our DIS friends who are in the path of this monster please stay safe. You have a powerful prayer chain on your side. :grouphug:

From the 6am NHC update, Gustav is now a CAT 3 hurricane with sustained winds of 115 mph.

Shutterbug, do you EVER sleep? ;)

Thanks for the updates.

yeah I do but I am used to getting up for 5:30 for work and on certain weekends as well for autocrossing. So even on my days off I am usually awake by 7:30 or so :rotfl:

And here is what he currently looks like:

LOL! I understand. I didn't hae to get up till 8 today. My eyes popped open at 5:40. :sad2:

I'm just sitting here till 8 wishing Weather Underground would update their Wundermap. I'd say that points towards me needing to get a life, but I'm in the storms path so I have a good excuse...:rotfl: Gustav is finally starting to get all gussied up and looking pretty. He has finally developed a nice eye and is really defined now. (I love the way hurricanes *look*. Andrew was absolutely beautiful! LOL!)
This isn't the best pic....something about the sun not being up yet.... ...but it gives ya an idea.

Good Morning neighbor!

Do you have all your supplies? I thought I was already, but with it looking like Vermillion Bay area might get slammed, I may have a house full of guest , so back to the store for me today ICKKKK lol! I actually went yesterday at 6 am to Walmart and it was a decent experience, so I may wait and go tomorrow morning. I dont need a ton of stuff, just more toilet paper and that kind of stuff.

Stay safe!

Morning! :)

yeah, I think we are set. Probably still need to get some water. We can't decide whether to stay or go. If we stay, we'll probably ride it our up your way. We live in a *gasp* mobile home. ;) (A very LARGE and STURDY 2100 sq ft wide mobile home, but still....it's not like being on a slab with winds that high) BIL/SIL live almost in watson (Off arnold). We'll probably be there for the gusty part and back home after...assumig we can get in. (Floods here) Still haven't decided what to do with our cat. She has one too, and it does NOT like company. ugh.... decisions decisions... LOL!

If we decide to leave, I DID find a reasonably priced pet friendly hotel about 8 hours away that still has vacancies. But I'm SOOOO not looking forward to making that trip with 3 kids, a cat, a dog, and a rat. :scared: Not to mention, I have to be back when schools re-open. We don't even know when they are closing yet. :confused3 That reminds me...off to check School board website. ;)

OK...off to get ready for work. Y'all have a good day storm watching! :)

ILoveJack....pm me if you hear any interesting news/info about our little corner of the world. :)

It could be. Each time they mention a storm moving this way I am getting the camera out and making sure the battery is charge...lol:rotfl:

Thats a cool pic showing both Gustav and Hanna...and they are saying there is 97L behind her.

Ill let you know if I hear anything, Im going to check school board site too!

Be safe! We are staying in town but even with our company coming I think I will pack them all up and go to a friends in Central during the storm. We have huge oak trees around our house and if any of them fall on the house we are done for! ICK :scared1:

Keep in touch!

Happy game day... GEAUX TIGERS!

Looks like they will decide on school closures sometime today. I dont expect they will be back in until Wed. And God forbid if its anything like Katrina, my house didnt have electricity for TWO weeks and neither did the school which is less than a block from my house !!!

Gosh im ready to leave for WDW TODAY!

Maybe because of the loss of lives we suffered.

Sadly New Orleans did carry the brunt of the loss of live. But other states also had loss of live. They also had lost of homes, but got less of the help. As all the focus was on New Orleans.

Not close, I lost my Dad.

 I would imagine that Katrina will always be a sore spot for you. But I would bet those in Mississippi who lost love ones would have to argue that their loss of live was just as sad for them as yours was.

Nobody is doing anything to have reason to back off. Nobody said it was anyone's fault, I do agree it's the media's fault. Nor would anyone want the devastation that Katrina caused, or what Gustav might cause.

But like it or not, there was other states who took a more direct hit from Katrina. States who had people to lose their homes and lives. But they were over shadowed by New Orleans.

WOW!!!! Just wanted to check in. Such anger.

Would you do me a small favor please?

I don't care if you hate New Orleans.

I work at Children's Hospital New Orleans and it is going to stay open. They are prepared. They are full of children of all ages. I work in NICU/PICU and am on the hurricane relief team. Its my job to care for the sick and I love it.

My DH is 64 and works for Jefferson Parish(county) and is shortly going into work. I am scared for his health(and life) but its his job and as a ex Vietnam Vet of course he will be there.

I will be staying here.

Would you say a prayer for Children's Hospital and all of my co-workers?
And a prayer for all the children there?
Believe me WE don't want another hurricane.

Now I'm off to board up and secure my home.

This anger is interesting. Some of us did notice everyone.

Anyway, I'll continue to pray for a weakened storm. I can't wish this on anyone else.

Not close, I lost my Dad.
Sorry for your loss. Facts are that NOLA's losses were not due to a Cat 5 storm but from poorly maintained levees and poorly planned evacuation of the city. Flooding of the Mississippi River Basin. Mississippi, on the other hand recieved the brunt of Katrina and suffered surge and wind damage of a Cat 5 storm. People lost lives there as well.
Even in Andrew, 16 yrs ago, people lost lives and Homestead, Florida to Kendall area of Dade county suffered devastation due to surge and wind damage. My husband and I remember whole developments flattened. Was that storm supposed to hit Homestead. Not at all. Predictions were for Andrew to hit the Dade-Broward county line. I don't know what the media said about Andrew. I didn't have phones for 2 1/2 months or tv for an entire year so was pretty much out of communication with the world except for when I could get back on the computer after 3 months.
Evryone should be aware that hurricanes don't necessarily follow the predictions of man. Gustav can go anywhere so all must prepare even those at the very edges of the cone of concern. And just because you aren't in that cone doesn't mean you won't get any effect from the storm. You still may get tropical storm force winds from bands of a storm even outside that cone.
BTW NOLA recieved such focus because it is a very well know and famous city. It is important to the history of this country, a well known vacation spot and a large city built where it really should not have been.

Hey there...:)

I am in Ascension Parish. What do yall think about the models showing it going into Vermillion Bay? I know it is still too early to tell but I talked to my dad this morning (he is south of Houston towards Galveston) and he said not to come that way. I think I agree with that. I don't want to get stuck west bound on I-10 with a west bound hurricane!!:scared1: I see that some of yall in Livingston Parish are staying so far. At what point would you decide to leave? I know we will end up on the dirty side but I just cant tell how close it's gonna be. The only hotels left are WAY north of here (think Arkansas and northern Alabama). Kinda hard to make decisions without alot of facts, huh?:confused3 Thoughts? Ideas?
