Wk of Apr 22--WISH Walking/Running Club

Personals:

Mel: Wow--not sure what GERD is...but sounds icky if you are taking migraine ills for it. Awesome pace though :thumbsup2 . Sub 12:00 is excellent (you are faster than I was...:sad1: ).

Trimom: Welcome!!! Congrats on your new baby! I had mine 4 weeks ago and I won't *cough* discuss *cough* how much *cough* I need to lose....but I am NOT a happy camper!:rotfl: I must have been living under a rock..but Olympic distance tri at WDW!!! Good luck to you!

disnutt/kiena: Hey--car washing = cross training. :woohoo: OMG...just love the quote from the Olympian....I think I fall into his description quite accurately.

angietuck2: What are you graduating from? Hope the 9 miler went well! Pg 2: Okay--guess you didn't do that...well hey...8 miles is wonderful especially in Florida heat. GL on your presentation!

Lily: Long time no see! Are you still wogging? Good luck with the Minnie!

Big Vic: Keep the snake photos to yourself!!!! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: Hmmm....wonder if they would make a good training partner.... For your foot..I have a foot wheel massager that I use--I will say it hurts like heck when you use it...but it was created for folks with PF and it works out that part of the foot and then you are pain free. I get that all the time after lenghty workouts and it fixes it right up. My coach who is also a PT--also said you can take a water bottle and freeze it and roll it on the bottom of your foot.

Kristi: Sorry about the Asthma--wow! That must have been rough! The time looks awesome though!

Matt:
Trainer? So your turned a regular bike into an exercise bike? Too cool! Hope you recovered well from your workouts. Pg 2: "slosh"--aren't you supposed to swim? ;) Good luck with your goal this week! I have a neighbor who competed in an Ironman in the panhandle somewhere. He did very well. Also have a friend whose sister has done the Ironman in Hawaii.

Martha: Good luck with Minnie!

Jen:
Well I hope your foot is heeling. It stinks when you can't do much but sounds like you had a wonderful day with the kids! Hmm....couldn't find food ideas...but here are some game ideas on this link: http://www.amazingmoms.com/htm/party_spongebob.htm

HTH..goodluck!!

Calcio: Sounds like you had a great run. Thanks for the vote of confidence. :thumbsup2

TxAng: Hey--recovering from a 5K, eh? Well enjoy that dinner at Outback!

Shan: You live in Atlanta? Which part (don't be too specific ;)). I have a BIL who lives in Marietta. Pg 2: I don't see a sweeper bus in your future..that is an excellent pace in week 3 of training!

Christa: You got paid to dance? Are there some details about your career you need to share with the rest of the class?:rolleyes1 JUST KIDDING! Didn't know you danced though...and hey--shoe money. I get my new shoes next week. :woohoo:

Bill: Wait a minute...Space Coast? Where do you live? I am beachside in Melbourne! How's the baby?

Bekkiz:
Take care of those legs! But hey-wall or no wall...you finished and did good.

Mike: Hmm...time for new shorts?? LOL! (you're not running in a speedo, are you???)

Dave: Wow--your 6yo went 2 miles...do tell how you got her to that point. Mine still tries to run like a graceful ballerina. Goes for about 100 feet and then she's done. I really want her to do the 5K in January.

Steve:
Good job on teh ride. My hubby needs to mow the lawn as well. Unfortunately he doesn't have the excuse of training to get in his way.

Stephanie: My knee has been bothering me since I had him--I think it was a sudden weight shift combined with lack of exercise during my pregnancy (too sick and then too tired)....so I think it is in an adjustment period. It actually felt fine on the treadmill today. Starbucks---works the biceps as you raise the coffee cup to sip it. ;)

Susie: That is funny! We have a local race that is by invitation only and the application reads quite funny. Basically talks about the nonsense of competing and the fact that there are no rewards or anything...I think 7 people run it. Of course it is something like 100 miles in circles around a park....but through the "wild" part of the park--so essentially a trail race...on crack!!! Oh--and the fact that there really isn't a "trail" that the average human being would even consider walking on.

Krista: Rest....what is this "rest" that everyone speaks of? Baby is doing well! Yes I am looking forward to goofy...still have NOT figured out how I will pull that off though except I conned...umm...I mean encouraged hubby and sis to sign up for the weekend so sister is running the half with me and hubby the full. I never new I was good at Motivational sneaking...I mean..speaking.:rolleyes1

Jennifer: "Prey flailing around in distress" :rotfl: :rotfl: 5 in 52...another Wish Speed Demon...WTG!!!

Judy--Wow! Please take care of yourself!! Glad everything seems to be okay though and you are here to post about it.

Becky: That pace is wonderful! Keep up the good work. Icing at a baby shower---the things we do for our sport!

Cindylou: oh my...I hope your quad starts feeling better.

Laurie: Yeah! WTG...Good luck in your race this weekend.

Okay--I do not know how all you folks do it. You talk too much!!! :scared1: It took me an hour to go through just 4 pages. Whew!!! Okay--that must mean I need to be more diligent about checking in. But my fingers have now been adequately cross trained for today.:thumbsup2

Wow it just occurred to me that we will be at Disney in 2 weeks--though just for the day on Saturday...hmmm...maybe if I see some lime green wishers, I will say hello! We will be at Magic Kingdom.

Today I booked POFQ for marathon weekend for myself and my sister. :woohoo:

The photog found me again this week (Another WISH shirt sighting!):
MulletMan.jpg

As you can see my whole secret has been given away... Make sure you never have either foot touching the ground! Note: Keeping my cycling shorts on during the run was not intentional. ;)

Edit: So far I've done tris of about 300 ppl and 360 ppl or so...
The Ironman 70.3 Florida just sold out, I'm now officially one of TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED TWENTY EIGHT!?!? (and that's assuming everyone is already showing up under "participants") :scared1:

A couple pictures from my visit to Denmark:

I'm standing at the very top of the lighthouse in the previous pix to take this of the very end of Denmark where the North and Baltics seas meet:

Lisa - Welcome back!

Vic - PD for the foot. Hoping you're not joining the PF club!

Jen - Just imagine if we never had company how thick the dust would get...

Judy - So glad you went to the doctor and found out what's going on. Now do what she says! I need you on the TM in the mornings! And GREAT SPLITS, btw.

So based on my training, I'm just going to have to meet with the race director and explain that 26.2 needs to become 24.0!

Sunny
:rotfl2:

Craig - You can't manage to stay in Orlando for the week in between?

Kelley - I'd buy new shoes, but see what everyone else says!

Mike - Maybe you need new running gear? :rotfl:

Where's Jim/Scuba Diver?

What is this weather? Ran 3.3 miles tonight after work - 38:24. It was only 80 degrees, but after Saturday's 50 degrees at 8:00AM, I understand what Krista meant about feeling like puking with every step. My problem was breathing. Saturday I could run 4-5 minutes, then walk 1... today I ran 2, walked 2 for almost the entire 3 miles. Funny that my avg pace was 12:42 on Sat, 11:39 tonight! I guess I really am running faster, and I know I was walking faster. Or maybe the Garmin was just being nice to be since I think it cheater me on Saturday?

Jackie

Hi everyone, I slacked off yesterday and didn't do any XT, unless vacuuming counts as XT. This evening I got 30 min of upper body weights in. Tomorrow I have a 5 mile run planned, and it is supposed to be 65 deg! Did I mention that it snowed last week?? Tomorrow it will be more like summer! :beach: (Yup, mid to high 60s feels like summer to me now!)

OK, my stomach is rumbling, so time to make some dinner and settle in to watch game 7 of the Vancouver Canucks vs the Dallas Stars...

I decided to turn up my training to pick up speed from my plodding waddle. So today, I stepped back to a 3 minute walk + 1 minute run pattern, but at a rate just over 90 seconds faster per minute on the walks and 2 minutes faster per minute for the runs. I am looking forward to finding out where I will be around the end of next month.

Susie - thanks for posting the race app
lenshanem - great job on the pace! and you will be surprised how good you will feel after 10K for the first time
Laurie - good luck in your race this weekend
matt - you truly do fly

I intended to do 2 miles today, at a good clip. I was feeling pretty good at the turn around point, so I continued another .5 mile. I pushed myself for the first two miles (14:58 and 14:21 splits) and then went at a slower pace for the last mile (17:20). Still, it's an ave. of 15:35 for the 3 miles, and way better than where I had hoped I'd be at this point..so I'm happy:) And a little sunburned. It was nice out today!

I hope everyone is enjoying their training and doing well! I love the encouragement from such a great group of people!

Just a quick check in:

Little Bit ( 16 mo DS) was sick last night. I was up from 3 - 5:45 am. I had to scrap my swim this morning becuase we couldn't go to the gym - I refuse to share germs. But I did get a run in before dinner tonight. I did 3 miles in 32:25 which is a pace of 10:48. I was a little bummed because my current goal pace is 9:55. I never did feel "good" on the run - I had to mentally push through the whole thing. But the victory in the situation was that I got out the front door. I was so tired, and I really didn't want to run in the first place.

OK - I am off to bed now, so no personal posts - but I did read them all, and everyone keep up the good work!

Well, got all my training done today. Did 30 min on the elliptical and then 30 min. weight training this am. And then 3.25 miles in 27:11 this evening. It definitely was a training run to get me ready for Florida--Holy cow was it humid. I looked like I had just finished swimming after my run I was so covered in sweat! supposed to get 6 in tomorrow--not likely--but we'll see

vic--thought about you tonight when one of our clinic directors was talking about stepping on a snake while running yesterday. I told her that I was just going to run with my eyes closed, then. So just make sure I don't run into anything;)

matt--woohoo--you are flying!!!:rotfl:

Lisa--what a massive post! You go!

Okay, should go! Have a great night all!

Minnie--AWESOME pics!!! Denmark looks so beautiful...it is on my list of places to visit someday, along with Sweden. I figure I can do the two in one trip maybe! Someday that is!!!

Time to head off to bed...I will check in with everyone else tomorrow!

Very eventful day for me! I did manage to get some training in which is amazing! I mt. biked a new trail this morning. After that, I picked the boy up from preschool early and took him to the Dr. for his kindergarten phys and shots. we were there for two hours and the fire alarm went off so we all had to leave the bldg. Boy almost passed out (i'm not using this as a figure of speech) when they drew blood. He became limp and his face was white. He went from talkative to almost silent. It was pretty horrible. Then at the end of our 2 hours, he got his vaccinations. I don't even have to describe that to you. It was, of course, horrible too! We left the Dr. to go to buy him some bravery toys! On the way, Phil called me and basically had still heard nothing from his dr. from his tests. He ended up getting the information himself and when he did, he learned that the results had been back since last Wed!!!! His tests came back as good as they could for his current condition. That was great news. I'm still pretty unimpressed w/ the Dr. though! When you mention removing significant body parts and cancer to people who have already had cancer, and promise to call when the biopsy is back, YOU SHOULD DO IT!! Anyway, I'm just figuring that Dr. has never been sick himself, so has no way to relate. I did figure that since phil is a collegue and a potential referral source for this guy that he might communicate a little better. I know phil does w/ his patients! (enough about that!!) The news from the biopsy was good and we can relax about that. Then.... I'm getting brave boy ready for his little ninja's class and as i'm closing the door, I feel a piece of metal poke me from under the door handle, then i think it is a wasp sting. I look under the handle and out crawls a HUGE spider!!! It bit me! I had no idea that that is what a bite from spider fangs felt like. So, i trapped it in some tupperware, drop boy off at little ninja's and go to phils work to show the dr. there who is the spider expert. We are still not sure exactly what kind of spider it was. It looked like a hobo spider. They are poisionous to humans, but we shuld not have them in our area. Hopefully, it was just a really mean funnel web grass spider!! If i dont post a lot this week, it is b/c my finger is rotting off!!! I actually think i'll probably be fine, but that really GROSSED me out and I've basically reached my threshold for emotional stress today!

All that being said, thank you for all the prayers and well wishes re: phils test results. We are very appreciative and thankful that they came back good!

Hopefully, I will get to run or ride tomorrow. I think it is supposed to rain. If so, maybe i'll go to the gym and swim!!

Geez, between Vic's pic of the basilisk and Melissa's talk about getting bit by a spider makes me want to look into hermatically sealing myself. UUGGHHH.
Craig - I would not be left in your dust after your speed training. No, the dust would have settled and been washed away by the rain later that day, then I would come plodding through. Great run!
Minnie - Great shots!
TriMom - Welcome to the Team!
Mel - Your run makes me recall that Lightning McQueen post. Great Job!
Judy - Watch that Blood Pressure! Or more specifically, watch it go down.
TexAng Outback? Man, I just drooled on my keyboard. Now Jen is probably going to bring up brats again.
Jen - Hope your foot gets to feeling better! Does your Doc recommend wearing the new inserts for your upcoming race? Or easing into them. I'm not very party creative, sorry. I would just end up recommending serving goldfish cracker. It is the snack that smiles back, after all.
kiena - wax on , wax off....yep that qualifies as XT. Strike first, strike hard, no mercy!
Sunny - Good job getting in 19 more miles than you would have if you just stayed at home!
Krista - You should have touched her cheek and said, "Well, this face makes you look a little stupid." I'm sorry, I'm evil.
Christa - Thanks for the clarification. Sounds like you had a more productive afternoon at home.
Angie - Hope your presentation went well. Too bad about the humidity. It's not bad (at least compared to FL) here in Iowa, but last year during the major road race here in town (Bix 7), it was sooo humid, that there were record number of people dropping and being taken to the hospital.
Bill - Now that's dedication, running after the early morning bottle/baby juggle!
bekkiz - Good job getting your walk in!
Carrie - Hope you can dig out soon!
Mike - :rotfl: :rotfl: I really hope they didn't tell you that you had a purty mouth.
Dave - Great run! And you took time off your rest day to run with your DD's and what a great reward. You are awesome!
Steve - Just let the lawn go and buy yourself one of those Mickey Ear Pith Helmets from AK. Great ride!

Well quick trainin gnote and off to bedd for night night:
After work, got on the TM and ran 2 miles...origianlly going to run 3min, walk 2 min, but felt really good, had a decent three days at work, so I ran it. Afterwards an ab routine and a nice stretch.

See you all tomorrow!
Happy Training!
Vic - No more snake pics! I'm gonna have nightmares tonight.:scared1:

Geez, between Vic's pic of the basilisk and Melissa's talk about getting bit by a spider makes me want to look into hermatically sealing myself. UUGGHHH.

Mike - :rotfl: :rotfl: I really hope they didn't tell you that you had a purty mouth.

Steve - Just let the lawn go and buy yourself one of those Mickey Ear Pith Helmets from AK. Great ride!

Andrew - A post this good requires some discussion:

Hermetically sealing yourself? 1. Didn't your mother warn you that you'll go blind doing that? or 2. Isn't that illegal in Iowa? or 3. Not sure about that but my former boss loved to tell the story of a veterinarian friend of his that performed his own vasectomy. Kind of the same thing?

"Well, this face makes you look a little stupid." - Classic, simply classic! I was thinking of something a little less imaginative like Krista's face getting all twisted up :headache: and her driving one of her spikey heels that she likes to wear into the offending idiot's foot.

"Bottle/Baby juggle" - Is that like the chainsaw, bowling ball, apple juggle? I think one of those guys on The Boardwalk use to do the Bottle/Baby juggle until an unfortunate incident that Disney still denies ever happened.

"Purty mouth" - Good line, but actually he said, and I quote "Run slower! Punish me!" No kidding. Creepy!

You gotta love the Mickey pith helmet. Matches well with the "Is that you Tigger" Pooh shirt. Do you think if Steve lets the grass go long enough he will be able to find that stilt walking lady Devine (sp?) that sometimes hangs out in Asia at AK? I may have to book a flight to Cincy!!

Thanks again Andrew!!

Christa - Quite a stir with the dancing for money comment. I was just going to ask if you paid for your new shoes with dollar bills.

Vic - What they said about the snake!!

Judy - Take care of yourself. My BP was up a little at my appt last week. I attribute it to anticipation of the date I had with Mr. Rubber Glove and his friend, K-Y jelly!

On that happy note, farewell all.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I did 3 miles yesterday after work. I'm in taper mode, so I don't think I'm going to do more than 3 miles on my runs this week. However, I did it in 26:50 min/8:48 mpm. I ran negative splits, and my last mile was in 8:05 min. Whoopsie, I need to slow down for my recovery before the Pig.

Judy- I needed to say make sure you take care of yourself and get your blood pressure down.

Melissa- I am so happy that Phil's biopsy came back negative. That is great news. Take care of that finger and boy of yours.

Lisa- My princesses, DD6 princess: and DD9 princess:, have been training for a 5K for about 5 weeks now. We do running/walking intervals, and I do many forms of bribes/incentives to keep them going. The 5K is totally their idea, and I'm supporting them in it. But I don't want to push them in doing it. The 2 miler was definitely tough for them.

I know I'm doing a very poor job of catching up with everyone, but I think of you all often during my runs. This team is my inspiration, and everyone is doing such a great job with their training and lives. All my best!

Good morning everyone, at least I think it is morning. I got out for the scheduled 5 mile run last night and felt pretty good about it. I decided I wasn't going to worry about the pace and see where I would wind up. I got so good at not looking, I forgot to see what the overall pace was. I did feel good afterwards and felt like I could do some more if needed.

Lynnda and Timmy seem to be doing good. Timmy is definately on a schedule now and wakes up by himself when it is time to eat. This is nice during the day but not so great at night. :rolleyes1 Billy is still doing good with him but he does not like the term big brother, no clue as to why though.

Craig - I forgot to mention that I saw you had alliances with that other school in Texas. Having met you and seeing some of your wisdom in other areas, I will just presume you had a momentary lapse of judgement or got lost on the way to the correct Texas school 90 miles east of Austin. ;)

Lisa - We are in Palm Bay, just west of the interstate.

Vic - Hope your foot gets better quick. You could put more pics up and I wouldn't be bothered. We also have a couple of Rat or Corn snakes around our yard. I don't see them that much but they tend to run from the lawnmower pretty good.

Andrew - Good luck on sealing yourself. Although during the summer down here, you would probably melt or cook yourself to a nice tenderness. :rotfl2: Good job on the training.

Melissa - Glad to hear some of the results were good. Sorry to hear about the less than polite doctor though. Good luck with the spider bite, I hope it isn't too bad.

Judy - Keep that blood pressure low. We can't have you falling over in the middle of the race next month. Cam already tried that and from what I heard, doesn't recommend anyone else trying.

Stephanie - Good job on the training and yes that humidity should get you ready for out here. Add some bugs and you have the perfect training conditions.

TriMom - Welcome and good job getting out the door for the training.

Bekkiz - Good job pushing yourself yesterday. That is a great pace and plenty fast enough for Disney.

Tiberius - Good job on the training. You are making good progress.

Leana - I want some snow, although the rest of the state may not. Good luck on getting your run in.

Jackie - Good job on getting faster. The heat will definately mess with your intervals, just find something that works when it is warm outside.

Minnie - Nice pictures, looks like you had a good time.

Matt - They did a good job of hiding the harness holding your body up. :lmao: Now if you can just share your secret of how you get forward motion when floating, we would all be appreciative.

Cindy - Hope your leg feels better soon. Just don't push too much through the injury.

Laurie - Good job on the run. You definately look ready for your race, good luck.

Krista - Your co-worker needs a little more tact there. Lynnda's birthday was good. I think the best gift she got was the fact she can drive again. :rotfl2: She didn't complain about any of the other gifts so I will presume they were acceptable.

Sorry to those I missed but it is time to go to work. I think I liked the taking vacation time a little better though. :rolleyes1

Bill

Matt: Look at you--I think you are ready or a Runner's World cover there! :cool1:

Minnie: Those pics are beautiful!!

Jackie: Hot weather for NC, isn't that? Was it humid or anything? I've determined that Garmin has a mind of its own.

Leana: Suck in those abs and any housework can be XT ;).

Tiberius: WTG on the increase for your workout. Pretty Dog in your sig.

TriMom: Sorry your son was sick :( . I wouldn't worry about the pace...some times we have days that kind of slow down a bit only to pick right back up.

Stephanie: Yep--notice I checked in real quick today.... . Any more 4 page chatters and I'm skipping.:scared1: Humidity in Arkansas?? In April??? Does that mean humidity is heading my way?? Nice workout and an envious pace you have!

Mel: Poor kid. I didn't go to K--but when I had to get shots for going into 1st grade....I flopped right onto the floor. My mother had tried distracting me by telling me that we'd go and get a happy meal....but evidently I could tell time b/c it was only like 10am or so, so I knew she was distracting me from the evil shot--turned, so the needle go in...and that was the end of that. I needed a shot when I was 17--didn't even look and still passed out. So now I must lay down for any needle procedure.:scared1:

Good news for Phil's biopsy..sorry I am out of the loop...but who is Phil?

Ewwww on the Spider Bite--I certainly hope your finger doesn't fall off.

Andrew: Good job on running the 2 miles...and I love your user name!

Dave: Oh that is cool...my girls want to run. My oldest is capable of a longer distance...I just don't know how to guide a kid to train. Thus far she wants to run on my treadmill. But for safety of course...afraid to allow her to do anything real on it. I let her get on at grandma speed.

Floyd--wow...I don't know why I didn't know you were in PB. I must have been under a rock. Have you always been there, or did you guys just move there? How old is Timmy? (that's what we called my brother when he was little :goodvibes ).

Me for today: Did my TM again---30 minutes..slower pace than yesterday (yesterday was curiousity and to see what I was capable of). Part of my slower pace is b/c my total time includes a 5 minute warmup and a 5 minute cool down....BUT about 10 minutes of my time was regulation or near regulation time...with 5 minutes at 4.1 mph.

I am quite excited to see what I am capable of as just when my body was ready to do that, we became pregnant twice (1st one a loss and 2nd one my big boy!). I got a blessing out of it--but have been dying to know what my legs can handle now that I got that meniscus tear taken care of.

Today--the family heads to the dentist.:scared1: I have no problems with the Dentist mind you..but I'm schlepping in with 3 kids--but at least 2 of them will be in a chair as well. But my pregnancy excuse for no X-rays is over and BUMMER...I gotta get them. I HATE bitewings b/c my mouth is soooo small and they hurt.

Melissa--great news on Phil's biopsy. We'll be keeping you guys in our prayers. And please don't let your finger rot away. I keep picturing that old Saturday Night Live commercial with the extra fingers that fall off. "There's no way around it, you've got extra fingers. Time for Handi-Off."

Steve

Krista - I totally forgot to address your coworker's comment!! You've seen me right? Well, my body looks different from when before I had the boy! It was skinnier!!!!! My belly was flatter!!!!! Anyway, one morning at church, some girl asked me the same thing. I wasn't wearing anything that would make me look that way. Turns out, (unbeknownst to me at the time) that I really was:rotfl2: :rotfl2: . So, the way I see it, either your coworker is really in touch and intuitive and has some kind of extra perceptive pregnancy sensor, or....... she is not to bright and is mean and she need to zip her lip!!!!! I think I'd avoid talking to her! She is probably jealous that you are athletic!

Woke up with another headache, but I think DH is gonna take me to some trial he runs today. I need another place to go run. My neighborhood hills are driving me insane! It is supposed to be a rest day today so this will be a quickie.

Lisa, I also live in Marietta. :hippie:
