Wk of Apr 22--WISH Walking/Running Club

I've been drinking Diet Coke and tanning at the tanning bed; apparently they don't like you doing stuff like that when you are pregnant. :confused3 Christa--If I'm glowing it's from the UV rays from the tanning bed!! What Mizunio's did you get? I'm getting new shoes after the Pig and I REALLY want the Mizunio Alchemy's.

Don't know about tanning, but I totally drank DC while pregnant. With my 2nd. They said not to withthe 1st, but by the time I had DD6.5 they had changed that rule I guess.
Anywho...my shoes...I hate to say, I don't know. :confused3 They say WAVE on the bottom but not sure if that is the kind. They are orange and white and silver.

Christa--I *think* those are the ones I'm eyeing. I think they are called the Wave Alchemy's. I think.

Update on Shari--I talked to my Mom before I went to lunch at 1:00, they decided to wait and do the surgery tomorrow morning. Her bp is wayyyyy high, like 23something/130, the doctors decided it would be too much of a risk to do surgery today.

Good morning team!! Why is it the taper always produces stonker runs? I think every event I've trained for, my tapers have all been blah. I ran 3 miles last night right after work, so it was still close to 80 degrees, I was trying to beat the storm that was coming our way so it was extremely muggy. Ugh. The entire run, my left calf (which is my good leg) was so tight, I had to keep stopping and stretching it and I took more walk breaks than I usually do. But I got the steps in, so that's all that counts. I have another 3 miles tonight, hopefully it will be a better run! :wizard:

I'm glad to hear that this is normal for tapering. I struggled yesterday to do my 4 mile walk. My legs felt like lead and then with being 83 degress and muggy I was miserable. My half is this weekend and I was questioning if I am going to be able to make it through the event. You have made me feel better. I have one more 4 mile walk planned for Wed and then just resting until Sunday.

I haven't had time to read all the posts, but sending prayers out to Krista's sister. That BP is really scary high. How old is she?

Glad that Phil's biopsy report was negative. As a breast cancer survivor I know how anxious he must have felt waiting. Waiting for test results is worse sometimes than getting the results.

Nancy

Matt – awesome pic!

Minnie – beautiful pictures! It is so nice to have you back, though!

Lisa - So great to see you here. I hope your knee just gets stronger and doesn’t give you any trouble as you start your Goofy training.

OMG, Melissa, what a horrible day you had. Here I was planning to congratulate you on the boy being ready for kindergarten, but then I read what he went through – that must have been scary for you. I am so glad Phil’s test results were good. I’ll continue to keep him in my prayers. So, I’m curious – how can you be so calm about a spider bite – AND you caught it and carried it somewhere???? You are now even beyond heroic stature with me, chickie! I almost passed out just reading about it.

TriMom – :welcome: So sorry your little one was sick. Here’s some pixiedust: for him, poor thing!

Andrew – your “purty mouth” comment literally had me :lmao: OMG!!!! Your posts crack me up! Thank you for the laugh, friend!

Okay, Mike, you too! Behave yourself! It is kind of hard to explain my guffaws to the people outside my office! :rotfl:

Bill – Thank you for reminding Judy that she doesn’t want to “pull a Cam” during the Minnie. I will be a wreck worrying about her. :goodvibes: Then again, I think she had such a great experience with all those cute EMTs after the Half, that she might be tempted to pull a little fainting spell.

Did you guys hear that when Judy had been on the stretcher for a while one of the EMTs said something like: “I think your color is a little better, but it is kind of hard to tell with that glowing GREEN shirt! I almost fell over laughing (partly from relief of knowing she was okay, of course!)

Krista – Let me at her!!!! (Your mean co-worker, that is!) Keeping your sis in my prayers. I had that procedure done about 10 years ago. It was an arterial biopsy and I was diagnosed with temporal arteritis (a disease that usually only senior citizens get). I had to go through steroid treatments and get blood tests every 3 days to monitor my SED rate. But it was resolved after a few months. In the meantime, I also used a maintenance drug for the migraines and then “rescue” drugs for flare-ups. I hope everything goes smoothly for your sister.

Colleen – it is so nice to see you here. I’ve missed you!

Jen – good luck to Paul! Tell him his WISH team is behind him all the way!! :cool1:

Dave – I am glad you are enjoying the taper. Kudos to the girls for those 2 miles! And I love the way you rewarded them. I just bought DSalmost14 a new Life Is Good shirt that has Jake running on the front and it is called “RUSH HOUR” – so fun!!

Angie – good job on great food choices at Outback. The food there is so awesome that you can order something relatively healthy and feel like you are splurging. :)

Christa – enjoy the new shoes! Yeah, some women want new Manolo Blahniks – we celebrate race treads! :lmao:

Judy – so glad your TM workout produced no bad side effects, but I am thinking maybe the stress of heading in to work sent your BP through the ceiling. Poor thing! And, :scared: on the coyote!

Nancy – Enjoy the taper! You’ll do great at your race!

Still no workouts for me. Completely grounded per doctor until Thursday. The cough is better and I think the sinus infection has mostly resolved, but breathing is still no picnic. I still can’t believe I have bronchitis. Howard is sick now with a sinus infection and just overall feeling lousy, but fortunately he doesn’t have bronchitis. I am really dreading the heat and humidity of Florida, but hope to be ready by then to take on 9.3 miles. I figure it may be as bad as the ‘07 marathon, weather-wise, but it is only slightly more than 1/3 the distance, so not so late into the day at Finish. And, it is the first distance race that I have done before, so I am really excited to “enjoy” the course instead of dreading the unknown.

Oh geez. Yes, newbies, I finished the Half...then promptly passed out on the pavement. :faint: And we do have a photograph somewhere to prove it!

Hey, I would be HONEORED to "pull a Cam"! :goodvibes

Cam--Your post has given me such relief! To know that you went through the same thing my sister is going through and survived just fine makes me feel so much better. I'm really hoping this whole ordeal is a wake-up call for my sister. She really doesn't take care of herself, she doesn't smoke or drink or anything like that, but she's over weight and doesn't eat so great and doesn't do any exercise at all. Now, I know just because you watch what you eat and you exercise on a regular basis, that doesn't mean that you're going to live to be 100, but it I think it has something to do with it. And she would probably still get migraines even if she ran or exercised, but at least having some physical outlet can cut down on stress and hopefully relieve what triggers a migraine. It definitely would help her blood pressure!! I hope you continue to feel better and :wizard: for Howard!!

Nancy--My sister is 39. Thanks for all the prayers! Don't worry about the half. I know, easier said than done, but you've done all the hard work and put your steps in. The half marathon is just the party. party:

Let's see if I have this straight: Bill doesn't want Judy pulling a Cam. I try not to pull a Judy and no one wants to pull a Carrie. Wow, what a group we are. :lmao:

Krista - :grouphug: :wizard: :grouphug: Let's pray that this is just the wake up call that your sister needs and her life will start looking up from here.

Krista - Lots of :wizard: for your sister. I have never heard of such an operation. My sister gets really bad migraines too. They eased up for a little while when she went to an accupuncturist (sp?). I hope the surgery goes well and she is feeling better soon!

Ok, so what does it mean to "pull a Cam"?

Y'all scare me. :scared1: :rotfl:

Krista-- My prayers are with you and your SIS. Just how many things can go wrong with the body???? BTW, I'm voting for the "your face makes you look ugly" response;)

MelR-- So glad the biopsy was neg. I can't believe what a traumatic day you and the Boy had! Do you still have 10 fingers? My DD was always a wreck about needles. It was really hard. DS doesn't even flinch. But DD justifies that with "that's just because of his sensory integration dysfunction!" She can't be shown up!

Now I'm a bit unclear of the subtle differences between "pulling a Cam" and "pulling a Judy", one is on the course, one is at the finish?:rotfl2: I'm one to talk, I fell at the track last Friday. I had a great 4 mie run and forgot I no longer can pick my legs up. The entrance/exit is blocked by a chain and I just flipped over it like it wasn't there. Not because I didn't see it, but because the message sent from my brain to "lift leg up" just never made it. Quite embarrassing but no injuries.

Carrie-- Oh the snake was just one of many surprizes for DM. He used to put dead frogs and field mice, etc. in the freezer, too! They've been married 45+ years. Go figure.

Cindy-- I don't think you were around when I tried a V-8 at mile 16:rotfl: I guess I can't complain of having a weak stomach anymore. (BTW the V8 was great).

Matt-- another great WISH shirt siting:thumbsup2 Personally, I have to "pretend" to run when I see the camera because my feet don't really leave the ground (ok, maybe an inch or two more than Judy's).

Minnie-- great pics! Sounds like a wonderful trip.

Bill-- sometimes running with no knowledge of pace is a breath of fresh air. I'm sure it was smokin'!

I finally made it to the Y today for 80minutes of swogging.

Sunny

Oh yeah, he can take pix of snakes, but we're bad?

Becky - Poor CAm took a digger at the marahton. How she made it after that I'll never know.

Becky – I tripped and fell before mile 7 during the full (we were off the road on the right and when I went to step back onto the road, I couldn't tell it was a bit higher -- I have no depth perception). Flat down on my front and slid along the pavement courtesy of that very slippery tyvek bib. Continued to scrape my hands and knee as I slid forward. Tore my ipod shuffle (which was on my race belt) to heck and back and ripped the number right off my WISH shirt (which was irretrievably ruined with pavement scrapes and tiny holes where the bib ripped off!) Rhonda, Lily & Pat picked me up. :grouphug: Rhonda poured water over my bloody hands, gave me her emergency band-aids out of her fanny pack and Pat almost poured her sports drink over my hands instead of water. I had open wounds on both palms & my knee, wrenched my shoulder, my wrist and my knee and was just an absolute mess. The medics offered me a ride, many times. Rhonda tried to talk me into stopping at a medical tent to at least get cleaned up, but I was so afraid of getting swept. After mile 20 when the medics offered me a ride to the end, I told them I wasn’t going home without my Mickey medal. I attribute getting to the FINISH to a race partner who stayed with me every step of the way and my 2 mantras: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" and "the pain is temporary. The pride of finishing is forever."

Oh, Sunny, sweetie -- are you okay? Geez, now you really can say you've pulled a Cam. ;)

sorry, I was writing my short story (not enough of a story line to be a novel ;) ) while Carrie posted the important information! :lmao:

Cam, that is absolutely horrible :sad1: When I read Carrie's reply I thought "hopefully it was near the end". But wow, in the beginning? I am glad you were not alone and that you made it through!!

Becky

Oh, yeah!

Alas, my race partner, Rhonda, sacrificed her chance to get a finisher's certificate because she refused to leave me to make up for my slow pace, and we finished right over the official time limit.

ETA: sorry it's so huge! I can't get it to size down!

Let's see if I have this straight: Bill doesn't want Judy pulling a Cam. I try not to pull a Judy and no one wants to pull a Carrie. Wow, what a group we are. :lmao:

Don't forget that Steve and Dave want to pull each other, preferably when they are tied up. :rolleyes1

Wow, you SWOGged for 80 minutes!!! Good for you Sunny. I was with you in spirit for the first 30 minutes - that was my SWOG today, but you blew me away by more than doubling my effort. Kudos!
