Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Man, if every run was like this, I'd do a marathon every weekend! I woke up with an evil migraine, have been fighting wicked GERD all week, so bagged the 8 miles this a.m. in favor of migraine pills and more sleep. Couldn't stand not running so I went out about 6:30pm instead...it was the BOMB!!! Pace wasn't stellar, but was a PR, 1:35:27 (11:56/mile). The 4 miles out was against a 21mph kick'n chick'n headwind so the 4 miles back felt like I was flying! I never felt tired and kept up the intervals for the entire run   I'm thinking about converting to night running for every LR.

Bad news is my foot's feeling pretty rough. I taped it today and I'm thinking of taking the entire next week off, then come back for the taper week for light stuff before the Minnie. I ordered some dreadfully expensive Merrell shoes for work and casual because I have no shoes that are comfortable anymore (except running shoes) :sad1:

Okay, now to catch up...so last week I missed something with Steve and Dave tied up in a race where you squeal like a pig. I think I saw that movie! Anyone else hearing the faint sounds of Dueling Banjos? :rolleyes1

OptiMike...that kind of physical exam is precisely the reason I chose an "above-the-waist" specialty ::yes::

Jennifer...7 feet's pretty good-sized, but they're not gigantic til they're 10+ ;) There was a 12-footer in residence at UF when I was in school there.

Kiena...great time on your 5 miles!

Kristi...hope your 7 miler goes well! Glad the bail fund remains untouched.

Cam...yikes! Hope you're feeling better soon!

Steve...DH and I both got Nike visors and I can't understand how I ever ran without one.

Krista...I can't imagine you'd have enough chub to rub ;) Sorry about the stonker run...just consider it dress rehearsal for the Pig.

Martha...sorry about your stonker too. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Craig...we've been moaning about the lack of football season, but just found out we get the Fox Soccer channel. DD14 has been watching football all day...MLS, La Liga, etc.

Minnie...hope you're enjoying Denmark and we'll get to hear more about it when you get back!

Leana...that's a crazy big hill! Great pace on your run!

Richard...great pace on your 5 miles!

Nancy...glad the allergies are improving. I'm grass and weeds myself, DH is trees and cat, DD14 is nearly everything.

Shan...congrats on surviving week 2!

Andrew...congrats on the 2 miles! Glad the 'new' legs are working for you!

Melissa...hope Phil is doing well! Glad you're enjoying the bike shop!

Bill...glad that Timmy's doing better!

Lynnda...happy birthday!

Anyone else having sweating issues? I would swear I sweat more since I lost weight than I did before, though my pace has certainly increased since the beginning. I've never been one of those girls that have a light glow of perspiration, but it's getting ridiculous! I can only wear black shorts now because my grey ones look like I've had a huge accident after a run. I'm starting to feel like a 300lb linebacker!

Happy Earth Day everyone!

Hello WISHer's - I would like to join you!

Here's a little info on me - I am a SAHM of 2 young boys - age 3 1/2 and 16 months. I am stuggling to get back to pre-baby weight - I need to lose about 45 more lbs (don't get me started, partial bed rest lead to gaining 80 lbs in pregnancy).

I do triathlons, and I love running and swimming - the bike, not so much.

Upcoming races that I am training for:

Mach Tenn Tri (sprint distance) - June 2
WDW Tri (Olympic distance) - Sept 23
ToT13K - Oct 27

I am looking forward to training with you all!

Mel- Amazing what changing up the time of your run can do. Maybe the ToT run will be a PR opportunity! Glad the migraine feels better!

TriMom- Welcome to the group. I'd like to try a tri but my swimming needs work. One day...

My back has decided to feel better today. That first burst of yard work really hurt! No run scheduled. Maybe car washing with my new hose.

Have a great day!
Kiena

Hello Out There!!!

My staying out of touch is getting worse, but 13 days till graduation and 14 days till MINNIE!!!!!!

Mel That's awesome about your run. We always run at night/evening, especially LR and it made me nervous about doing races in AM but never practicing in AM. But it has never been a problem!

Trimom :welcome: YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE IT HERE!! Maybe reading about your training will finally inspire me to take that leap to a TRI, DH has been bugging me for forever for us to try one!:confused3

Kiena Glad to hear your back is not hurting, my car is REALLY dirty if you want to do 2! :rotfl:

I will not make an attempt to try to catch up with last week :sad2:

LR scheduled for this evening - 9, let you know how it goes later

angie

Trimom--Welcome!:cool1: I also have a 3 1/2 year old and a 17 month old!:thumbsup2 It definitely is busy around here!

Angie--How exciting that graduation is just around the corner! You should be so proud of yourself!

Yesterday was a rest day--today should be xtraining; we'll see what I actually do. Sounds like everyone is having some wonderfu weather! Here's hoping it will be in the 60s with little to no humidity for the Minnie!

Stephanie - Please pray VERY hard for good weather for MINNIE. The runs have been kicking my but down here. My body does not do well at ALL in heat. It is still cooling off in the evening but we have hit some 90's lately.:scared1: I know you were just here so you felt some of it!!

Morning WISH Team!

Welcome new WISH Team members! This is the greatest place. You really will love it here. Join in often, it will make our journey such fun.

Angie, have you designed your mortar board with Minnie ears? Will you be wearing it Minnie race day?

Mel, whoa with the wildlife you get to see on your runs. I love going on our trail here and lucky for us on the North Coast we don't usually have that to contend with. Sorry about your foot. Sounds like a smart thing to lay off and do light work during the week previous.

Susie, Denmark! I can't wait for your trip report and pics.

I managed 7 miles yesterday in lovely summer-like weather 62 degrees as I started out in the a.m. Kind of warmer than I like. I did go out slow and tried to keep the pace to 15 min. I was up and down with it and managed a 14:27 for the 7 miles. I felt the leg, but not too badly so I'm thinking that Minnie will be a fine time. Oh, well what am I saying; of course it will be a fine time. I'll be there with WISH Team members. It will be great!

Have a great training week everyone.

Don't forget to post up your events to the calendar thread (sticky thread) top of the Events page. I may be slow on updates, but I'm getting them.
:thumbsup2

Good morning everyone!

It's a beautiful day today in NW Florida.

Got out this morning and ran 5 miles at a 11:41 pace. Felt good throughout the run.

Speaking of wildlife. This guy greeted me next to the garage when I got back.

blacksnake.jpg

The best I can tell it's a black snake (Racer) and about 3 feet in length.

Mel - Great job on the 8 miler!

TriMom - :welcome:

Kiena - Take care of that back.

Angie - Congrats on the graduation. Have fun on your LR.

Stephanie - Good morning!

Lily - Great job on the 7 miler!

Hope everyone one has a great day and a great training this week.

Oh yeah, Krista - Take care of that chub rub. ;) :rotfl:

:)

I was supposed to do 7 miles.
My asthma was bad - so I only walked and did 5 miles instead.
(must have something to do with hanging around a smoky casino all day Friday)
And my Garmin wasn't set to automatically calculate the miles.
So, it took me 1:10:14, a 14:03 mile.

It's gorgeous here, FINALLY!
I am going to shower, then take Zack to the park while Chad goes to his city hall gig this afternoon.

Hooked up the new trainer (basically a flywheel and roller) to the ol bike, and pounded away for about an hour before I was basically dripping so much I was making a mess! It's a little different compared with being outside and having your sweat get blasted off in the wind... You also don't get to "coast" it's pretty much nonstop exercise. Was supposed to do 2.5 hours but I went real hard during the race yesterday and just wasn't feelin like I had the energy. I AM trying to motivate myself to hit the pool though since that IS my weakest event and what I should be focusing on the most. More later when I finish with the weekly totals.

G'day WISHers! It's another lovely day here in New England, an oddity I'm sure will not last. But I'm enjoying it while I can.

Today was 30 min on the bike to loosen up the legs after yesterday's effort. I then spent an hour raking the yard before applying Scott's Step 1 to the yard. Last year I grew a lovely crop of clover. I wonder what this year will bring!! :rotfl:

Matt: I hope you get that swim in. When is your next event?

Kristi: sorry to hear your asthma is acting up.

Vic: LOVE the garage guard! The only "wildlife" in our area is the cats!

Lily: :thumbsup2 on the run. Enjoy the spring weather. If it's like here, it'll turn cold one more time just to let us know who's the boss!!

Trimom: :welcome: You're gonna love this group!!

Angie: good luck on the LR tonight!

Mel: I am so happy you had such a great run even tho the day started off poorly. Way to rise above it!!!

Everyone have a great training day!

Hey all... nothing to report because I am on foot rest. I did want to hit the gym for some elliptical training, but the weather is so nice that DH have been spending time with our kids. I am gone a lot so this is a rare thing. They are loving it. I wanted to do yard work this weekend, but the wind is so horrendous that it blows me away when I am outside. I raked a teeny bit and gave that up. I did plant 2 blueberry bushes. I seem to have something eat them every year and kill them off. First we thought deer, now we suspect our dog (she eats anything). So I put in 2 new ones and a makeshift fence. If they die this year, that's it!

Angie - I am planning to do my LR on Friday this week. I haven't ran in a week because of my foot.

I am hoping that by Friday it will feel well enough to get in a training run (doctor said to rest 1-2 weeks and that will be 1 1/2 weeks). I get my orthotics the week after. My 1/2 marathon is coming up in 4 weeks and I am terrified now that I won't make it through with my foot. DH says to walk it, which I may do and forgo a PR!

Mel - That is FANTASTIC. I am not sure I will be able to keep up with you at the WDW Full this year. You have gotten so speedy and I seem to be falling behind. DH says to just be happy you are doing it, and that is what I am trying to do now. No more concentrating on speed, now I am just concentrating on being a finisher. This is where I started 1 1/2 years ago.

Vic - I would die if that snake were in my yard. Snakes are one thing I can't stand at all. My heart literally jumps out of my body when I see one.

Lily - Oh I have missed you on the boards. It was so great meeting you in January and I hope your pain stays away. Good Luck at Minnie. I can't wait to see pics!

Trimom - WELCOME. I am still trying to lose the baby weight and my youngest is 4 next week. OK I am back to her Pre-PG weight, but I still have more to lose!!! I have 2 girls, 4 and 6 1/2.

Martha - Our yard is a wonderful concoction of every weed possible. This is why I keep adding flower beds... they distract you from the mis-hap of a lawn that we have!!!

OK, girls want a snack and they want it NOW!

The first beautiful weather run of the year:) .

Martha: Do not read this section. You said you didn't want to hear of my great run today so I didn't tell you. That doesn't mean I cannot tell others:rolleyes:

I was at the high school track today and went through 5000 meters in 29:02, 9:21 per mile. I felt energetic so I pushed the pace for another 5000 meters, finishing 10,000 in 56:04, 9:01 per mile. The 2nd 5000 was done in 27:02, 8:42 per mile, and I'm very plesaed with that, but today I learned I'm not as fit as I thought. Miles 4 and 5 weren't hard at that faster pace, but mile 6 was a real strain. As I was getting near the finish I fantasized about going sub-56, and with 200 meters to go I needed 58 seconds over that distance to make it. Unfortunately, it wasn't going to happen today. I thought how nice it would have been to have 1 of you on my shoulder, as with some help i'm sure I could have made it.

Of course at mile 4 I thought about doing 10,550 meters, or 1/2 of the half marathon, and thought I'd make it sub-60. I stopped running at 10,000 meters because my body would not give me 10,001.

Next week is the James Joyce 10K, which I'm really looking forward to, since I DNF'd with a calf injury last year. My vow is to run a lot of races this year so I won't act like such a fool at Disney, and this is #1.

WTG Mel, Lilly, Kristi (in spite of the asthma) and Martha. We're doing our first hot weather runs of the season and they ask a lot more from your body.

And for Mel, I don't perspire and I don't sweat. When I run it pours off of me. I guess that's why heat and humidity on race day means I blow up early and spectacularly. Here' hoping for some level of cool on May 6 in the early morning for you all facing the 15K.

And thanks for the pic of the garage visitor Vic. I'm afraid if either of my 2 ladies saw that they'd make me perform all garage tasks.

Best to all

Craig

Mel – I hope your foot feels better! :wizard:

TriMom – :welcome:

Kiena – Glad your back’s feeling better!

Angie – Hope the 9 Miler went well. Less than two weeks till you’re DONE with school!! Yay! :woohoo:

Vic – Eew! I don’t like snakes. :scared: Not even a little bit.

Craig – Awesome run! WTG! :thumbsup2

Training news? What training news? I'm officially a slug. It's been a week since the 5K, and the motivation has been nonexistent. Guess that means I need to schedule another race!

Hoping to get back at it tomorrow. We'll need to in order to run off the Outback dinner we're going to eat tonight! Yum!

Good afternoon everyone!

Today was a rest day for me, but tomorrow I increase my running time up a minute before walking. The weather is beautiful here in Atlanta so I'm looking forward to it. :thumbsup2

chimera, hope your foot feels better soon. :goodvibes

Big Vic, I would have had a heart attack if I saw that thing in my garage! That is one thing I'm totally scared of - snakes! :scared:

Alright I did manage to slosh through 30 min in the pool, so I can chime in with this week's totals finally. I shortened today's workout both the bike and run, and skipped Friday's swim/run altogether since I felt sore and had the tri on Saturday. Still could have been worse. Total of 80 min swimming, 80 min running (8 miles) and 290 min biking (86.5 miles (!)). 7.5 hours total slightly higher than my previous longest two weeks ago. Also biked/ran 94.5 total miles, which again was a personal best.

My goal for this next week is to not miss any workouts, exercising Tue-Sun solid including a metric century ride on Saturday and a swim/9 mile long run on Sunday which will be the two hard days. It will basically be the first of two peak weeks for my half Ironman training, with the second ending with Minnie weekend where I'll also be doing a long ride the same day as the 5k and swim the same day as the 15k. Busy busy! Then comes taper wee!

Welcome TriMom! You will love "training" with everyone here!

Matt, dude, when do you stop?

Was going to mini brick yesterday (Andrew, I think you asked what this was...It is just like run..bike...run, or swim, bike, swim, or something like that.) but had to go dance. It was an all day thing so got NOTHING in training wise. But I did get paid.:cool1:
So today (after church) I was going to bike around 40 miles, but DH had to stay at work all day for meetings so stayed home and watched Cinderella and Aqua Marine with my DDs. I am lazy! But I did have a show today.
Knee is feeling better and I am getting new shoes tomorrow with the $$$ I made dancing Saturday...No not that kind of dancing.;)

Hello Everyone - Just got back from my LR. What was supposed to be 9 miles turned into 8 running and the last one walking. I don't know what is happening to me, but the heat has REALLY been kicking my but lately.!!:scared1: So at least I made it home and there is always next week. We take the good with the bad right?:confused3

Tiger Lily What an awesome idea!!:rotfl: A MINNIE cap for graduation!! ::MinnieMo My family already thinks I'm a little to obsessed with Disney, that would put the icing on the cake.

Vic I found a smaller version of your pic under my couch when I was vacuuming today, courtesy of my sweet DS'S pirate: pirate: - a fake one :lmao: I LOVE HAVING BOYS!!

KRISI - Sorry your run did not turn out so good, I hope you had fun at the park.

Jen117 pixiedust: Hoping that you will be able to run by Friday. That must be so frustrating for you being so close to your race!!

Craig Great times on your run!! Wow an MIT professor and a speedy runner. (HE HE :rotfl: )

TXAng Hope you enjoyed Outback!! I LOVE OUTBACK!

Shan Good luck on increasing your running time!!

Matt I'm so tired reading your training schedule :scared: You rock.

Christa Your afternoon sounds like heaven to me. I spent my time after church cleaning my house and then a horrible LR

Hopefully I can keep up this week. WISH me luck I have my presentation tomorrow night for my Senior Design Project Class. It's the class where we kind of put together everything we have learned throughout school. It was really cool, we got to design a bridge and now we have to do a formal presentation.

Have a good night!!

angie

I got out yesterday for a quick long run. It wound up being 6 miles and I slowed my pace down a little bit to make sure I didn't hurt myself too bad since I had missed the past 2. It wasn't too bad weather wise although it was way too early. I went out right after the 4:00 feeding since I would have slept through the run otherwise.:rolleyes1

Vic - We have a couple of those in our yard. They get quite irritated when I try to catch them. Lynnda isn't too fond of it either  but Billy loves it. Now I just have to make sure he doesn't try to catch them yet.

Mel - Good job on the run. I hope your foot gets better by Minnie.

Craig - Great job on the run. Thanks for the encouragement as well but I don't think we want to start thinking about college this early. That would imply somehow that I need to start saving for it.

TxAng - Hope you enjoy your meal at Outback. There was a time where all the servers at our knew us by name. :rolleyes1

Christa - Glad you clarified the dancing thing. ;) I hope you enjoyed the time off anyway.

Matt - Way to go on all the training. It sounds like you are going to have a busy time the next couple of weeks.

Lily - Great job on the training. You will have no problems with Minnie.

It seems to be time to feed everyone so I will go. Sorry to all those I missed and welcome to all the new members.

Bill
