What to do about a dog in a room...

. Glad I'm not neighbors with a lot of the responders, house keeping will alert Managment if there are any problems.

How would housekeeping know? It is only every 4 days, and if they stay less than that, the front desk/housekeeping may be completely unaware.

As I said, I'd report it. If it is a service animal, chances are the front desk is already aware of it. If it is not a service animal, it does not belong at the resort.

I would hope that if your neighbor had a car up on blocks (or similar clear violation) in their front yard you'd say something. In that situation talking to the neighbor first would be the appropriate choice but letting the HOA know would be important if that wasn't successful. For a stranger, letting the resort know about appropriate issues is the best first response.

using the logic being shown on this thread I guess we should assume people in wheel chairs are just trying to get to the head of the line.. Sorry I must be far to trusting of my fellow man or woman, there are a lot more things to worry about in this day. I'll just assume the dog is there for a good reason and be glad I don't need help to get through the day.

I know at least 2 people that have done that.

I know at least 2 people that have done that.

Yep...it happens.

With the dog, agree with many others that it should be called in. I am frankly mystified by the number of people in this thread that would let it go.

Pehaps MS should post a sign at their door, "Service Dog in use"
What I find amazing is how many people are way too busy on their vacation to report maintenance issues but this dog thing has so many "fired up". Personally, I'm not so quick to assume that there is wrong doing, my 1st thought would be to believe it's a service dog, jacket or no jacket. If I witnessed inappropriate dog/owner behavior, ie: not picking up waste, barking etc. then I would call MS.

The Rules are the Rules............ I too am "mystified" at the number of people that would let it go.............. I for one would call the front desk IMMEDIATELY. IF it is a service dog, fine, the resort should know about it already, so no problem, however, if it isn't a service dog, I'd think they (the resort) would WANT someone to call to report something that is a rule violation. Dogs are NOT allowed - so call the front desk.

I think way too often people just "let it go" - when they see something that is WRONG - unless we ALL get involved and stand up for the rules and the right thing, then NONE of the offenders will think the rules apply to them or that they have to stop breaking them.

Just my 2 cents

I agree with this completely - I was actually involved in a "heated" debate here recently, and I was in the minority of people who WOULD report an issue..... UNLESS of course it was something minor, like a lightbulb out or knob missing, something like that........... my suggestion, which was pooh poohed by the way, was that perhaps they could implement a check-out sheet of any minor maintenance problems - that could be left in the room and mousekeeping could turn them in to maintenance....... this seemed to ruffle a lot feathers...........in the general direction of a NO.............. We PAY for DVC - it is "ours" - so, why in the world would we NOT report any maintenance issue.......... I agree though, if its MINOR - then report at the end of your stay if it isn't an issue for you while there - as something like stated above, as I don't want to have maintenance coming to fix a lightbulb while I'm on vacation, but, it DOES need to be reported.......... of course if it's major, then it needs to be reported IMMEDIATELY........... anywhoooo, back to the dogs.............. :)

I think I'm the only person whose said I'm too busy to call maintenance about things that aren't bothering me. But a dog WOULD bother me if it wasn't a service dog. So it isn't inconsistent, its about what bothers me.

However, there is a failure in that logic, as wheelchair users do not "go to the front of the line," and in fact often wait longer than ambulatory guests for rides, as they can only allow a certain number of non-amublatory guests on attractions in case of an evacuation. Try being in a wheelchair at Disney for a few days, you'll see the "front of the line" does not exist except for bus loading, and many times you have to wait for the next bus because of limited w/c slots.

A dog can have very negative health effects on the next person to occupy the room, if the resort doesn't know it is there and has not planned a full "service animal" type cleaning. It also costs every member through increased dues, which is fine (and required) for needed service animals, but why should I put put the big bucks t board my pets while I travel, and let someone slide who may be increasing my dues by bringing a "secret pet" to the resort.

Also, a service animal should be with the person they are helping, and be extremely well behaved. It is what they are trained for. If you "know" it is there, or if an animal is left unattended in a room, it is not a service animal, and should not be at the resort while its owners go to dinner or enjoy the parks.

service animals are often now being used to treat PTSD so it doesn't have to be the normal breeds to treat this problem as the dog must be suited to theindividuals personality as they don't have any actual physical limitations but psychological issues that prevent them from going places alone/without their k9 compaion etc. perhaps it was this kind of a service animal.. it would be pretty hard to hide a dog from housekeeping... they would bark when owner isn't in the room?

I agree it would be pretty hard to hide a dog from housekeeping. I would say nothing.

Or...smoking...:scared1:people would report that I'm sure. Well, there are reasons for not allowing smoking and there are reasons for not allowing non service animals, so I'd think it's our responsibility to report that. No-one has a doctors orders to smoke (not yet) but non service animals fall under the same rule as not smoking, or piling people in a room off a reservation or any number of other rules. I'd hope someone with a service animal would let the front desk know, and I don't think it is a bad thing to report it.

Mousekeepers do not service the rooms daily at DVC resorts. Not too hard to hide if there aren't any mousekeepers.

I would love to be a fly on the wall to be able to see what mousekeeping's version of a "full" cleaning is w/ or without a documented sevice dog having stayed in a villa. Some resorts are definitely cleaner than others, you would think that the standards would be the same from one to the next!

Chuck I don't disagree with you, some will attempt it even if it's against the rules but at some point that pet/service dog is going to need to use the potty, maybe getting away with it would be easier under the cover of darkness at OKW but not w/ elavators at Jambo, BLT, BWV, etc.

I have one question for all of you who would "say nothing". Would you also "say nothing" if you saw a crime being committed? As far as I can tell, it's the same mentality. If you "say nothing" it doesn't matter if it's something of this caliber, or a rape or muging. The problem in our society is that too many people are of the "say nothing" mind set. Thank God that street vendor in New York wasn't of that mindset!!!

Service animals don't always wear the jackets. There's all kinds of service dogs.

If the dog is a service animal they can't do anything. But you can tell the front desk, they should be aware if it is a guest who has a service animal.

I was at AKL once and the front desk persons said the hotel staff had spent all day trying to catch a cat - someone had smuggled a cat into their room and it got out. (Is there such a thing as a service cat?)

Couldn't agree more. People just let things happen.

OT example:

I'm at the Saratoga State Park with my wife and kids on a beautiful day. We hike (short walk) down to the river area and all you hear is the bass from a car stereo. I can't see it but can hear it. I take a walk to find it. It's at least a quarter mile away and at least 150 people can hear this annoyance. Yet, nobody does anything. I ring up park police. 5 minutes later, the noise I hear are kids playing and the river.

Was I the only one bothered by this?

Please don't just let things go in society or at DVC.

I'd let the front desk know, if it's a service animal no harm done.

This is exactly my point as well ............. the mentality to just "let it go" - it isn't MY problem - IS the problem. In every aspect of society - I personally believe that is WHY there are so many who "break the rules" or commit crimes or whatever, everyone just "lets it go" - I think that's why some kids are so out of control, parents just "let it go" - the list goes on and on............ people have to realize that the "letting it go" mentality is the problem - there are rules, follow them or face the consequences.......... in this "let it go" mentality, even the consequences are not adequate in a lot of cases............... I know, I know, I need to get off my soapbox............ but really, if you see someone doing something that YOU believe is wrong or breaking the rules, say something, it's a lot easier for you to apologize if you are wrong, than what the outcome could be for someone if you don't speak up!!!!

OK - I'm "letting this go" now............. I've said my peace!!! :flower3:
