Resort Thread Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT

So are trip is paid in full- and I have not added dining plan. If I get a gift card now to have it “prepaid” on my end- when I check in- can they load the card to my account as a credit? I don’t want to use it during dining and parks- can they do that and have a credit on account?
People have reported being able to do this in the past but not recently. What you can do is go down to the front desk at the end of each day to pay your room charges down with the gc. This is what we always do in lieu of DDP.

Should I book a longhouse or tower room if my biggest concern is quiet? I don’t sleep well in my own bed, so on vacation, I seek out sound proof walls and peaceful accommodations!
I haven't discovered any "soundproof walls" at Poly Longhouses over several decades.
I HAVE been lucky enough to enjoy some quiet stays (Resort views) but mostly due to quiet neighbors. Last year, it seemed an entire summer camp moved in next door on both sides. 🤷‍♀️ Can't win 'em all !

I'm sure that this has been discussed but I didn't find much in my search. We (4 of us, wife and I and two boys (6 and 4) are going to stay at the Poly for our next trip. We have only been to moderates before, so are excited to try a deluxe.

My question as I scour and overthink everything--I appear to have my choice on our dates for either a room on the cash resort side or a studio at the DVC villas at the same price. I've done some research on the rooms and differences, etc. But am looking for some advice on what you all think would be better for my family on our first Poly stay, the DVC studio or the resort side? Advantages/disadvantages? We would be staying five nights. Thank you!!!

The DVC side give you two bathrooms (if that matters) and are a closer walk to the TTC to catch the monorail to Epcot.

First to make it slightly more complex there are 2 types of Deluxe Studios at the Poly. The new Tower - Deluxe Studio (Island tower building) and the original Deluxe Studio (3 Longhouses) toward the TTC side of the resort.

The original Deluxe Studios have 2 bathing options (1 full bathroom, and 1 shower/sink) and are slightly larger than the Tower - Deluxe Studios or the resort side hotel rooms. They also have a Balcony or Patio on all 3 floors. The resort side guest rooms don't have a Balcony on the 2nd floor.

The resort side guest rooms have 2 Queen beds, and a day bed while the original Studios have 1 Queen bed, and a Murphy bed +a fold down bed under the TV. The Tower - Deluxe Studio only has 2 bed surfaces, 1 Queen bed, and 1 Queen Murphy bed.

I think you would be happy with any of the 3 options.

Also to consider is the dvc side all 3 floors have a balcony/patio.

I have stayed in both. For adults the resort side usually better with 2 actual queen beds. With kids I would do the dvc. The murphy bed is comfy but importantly nice to have a sofa during the day.

Also the table area is better if you will eat in the room. I often move furniture so slide table to sofa if needed in either resort or dvc rooms.

I do prefer my coffee from a pot vs keurig so if that matters the dvc is a pot , resort side is keurig.

The bathroom at dvc is nice with 2 separate shower/ sink area. Much easier in the mornings and bed times!

However if one category sells out or family really prefers the heavy moana theme in resort room you can't go wrong with either one. Love poly rooms!

Trish and Dave already made some great points but I'll just add the resort side rooms are more centrally located to the Great Ceremonial House (the lobby) than either DVC section. The resort is really not as big in reality as it looks on paper but either DVC option will put you further away from the lobby, main pools and transportation. In the og DVC buildings Moorea or Tokelau are not so bad (especially Tokelau) but if you end up in Pago Pago for instance you'll probably be better off taking the monorail/ferry at the TTC rather than at the GCH. Further from the bus stop too. So that is something to consider.

But truly there is really no bad room to have at the Poly and this really only means maybe a couple extra minutes of walking. We have a party of 3 adult women going next month and we were originally booked in the og DVC studio solely for the dual bathroom setup but we were willing to give that up when discounts came out and the resort side turned out cheaper. Those rooms are huge with plenty of space for a family of 4. We like Rarotonga on resort side because it's right next to the GCH, bus stop and both pools. Requested it again for our stay next month.
