Why did they cancel my fastpass?

All, just got of the phone with Diney Help Center. "Lisa" confirmed that Space Mountain will be down for a "brief refurb" from 4/20 - 4/28. She appologized for the inconvenience. She checked for me for any available FP+ windows left open for 4/19, but there were none. She also indicated that a 4th FP was not likely since it was not a system error.

4/28? Hoping that's wrong.

Sounds like a late decision which means the FP+ system did not do anything wrong to cause folks to need a different FP+.
The system didn't do anything wrong in terms of how it is set up to operate. But if the system were set up to open the FP window at a point in time closer to one's actual arrival, there is less chance of this happening. Too much can go wrong and too much can change between 60 days and one's arrival date to make 60 days the "right" number for booking FPs. Great system for Disney to "lock in" its guests. Poor system for guests who are left walking a tightrope.

Yep. If I get any sort of survey about "How well did you like Fast Pass+?" after our trip, I'm giving it the lowest scores possible for this exact reason. Last minute scheduling of a closing due to an unavoidable circumstance? That I can understand. Scheduling what must be a non-critical closing after people have already made their FP+ reservations? A complete failure of the entire FP+ philosophy.

Ugh, that would be our whole visit. My FP is still showing up on the 24th, but this does not sounds promising. :-(

If they had to close it, fine. But what aggravates me is that now I'm down one major FP. If we had known 60 days out that Space was not an option, I would have booked the Mine Train coaster instead. But now my Space FP is gone and all that's left is crappy times for other stuff. I'm not going to be in the park at night, so I can't get a Mine Train FP either (day slots are all gone). I've been trying to reserve my judgment until my trip is over, but I'm truly disappointed in this new system. It's such a pain, such excess planning, and even after you go through the time and effort to put in the planning, they do stuff like this. I'm pretty frustrated.

Also, I hope the 4/28 date is wrong. That would be our whole time there.

Ok, so this is royally messed up!! They cancelled my FP for SM on 4/23, but not for 4/21 or 4/24???????
Guess I will anticipate that happening a well? What are they going one day at a time? If its closing, its closing!!! Period! Just let everyone know so we can make a BETTER choice then what crap they are sending out!

I lost our fastpasses as well for SM for April 23. Not happy because this will be our first trip alone since we had kids so we actually would have been able to ride it! I would be less upset if Disney had planned this more than 60 days in advance like the rest of us are now forced to do. I would completely understand if it were an emergency but this doesn't appear to be.

Not an error. A feature...
I love this feature. I call this one the FP+ switcheroo; Disney decides to switch your FP+ reservations. There's also the FP+ jumperoo: when the booking window opens 60 days out anywhere from midnight to 2 am EST ( making their guests jump through hoops if they want A& E, Parade, Fireworks).

Any Status update on this situation? Is the ride closing?

i received a very garbled voicemail today from Disney Guest Services explaining the ride will be closed but has the chance to be open on my select day (4/20). i won't know until the day before or day of (couldn't make out what he said exactly). but he did grant me an extra FP+ for that day so that if it does open i can go in and set a time without any restrictions. hope this helps some people!

The first person I called said that she couldn't find anything about a SP refurbishment, but the second person said that she just received the info today, and SP is going to be down from 4/20 to 4/23. I guess this would explain why I wasn't able to get a FP on the 23rd (my arrival day) when I tried a few days ago, but I was able to get and still have FPs for both 4/25 and 4/27.

I lost my FP for Space, but you know what? I'm GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!

Seriously-the whining about this has me rolling my eyes. Can you say first world problems?

Ok the first world problems meme has a place but lets be honest for a moment. Pretty much any problem on this message board (not counting those on the community board discussing non-disney things) are first world problems. However just because they are first world problems doesn't mean that people don't have a right to be annoyed about the policies and situations at a place that they are spending a large amount of money. That also doesn't mean they aren't able to discuss those problems. Others will want to be aware of this type of situation happening to others and the eventual outcome.

Yes many people are facing much bigger problems in their lives. Honestly many of the people here in this thread are probably facing bigger problems in their lives. Still doesn't stop it from being valid.

I just called the number in the email again, started with a very general statement "I got an email that my Fastpass had been changed", and the CM immediately replied "Did you have a Space Mountain Fastpass in April?" So it sounds like they're getting a lot of calls about this.

Anyway, she also told me it will be closed April 20-28 - the same thing they told AzzySpazbourne yesterday. The Disney website doesn't have the closing listed at all, and as of a few minutes ago you could still get FPs for the 25th, so it sounds like the whole thing is still in flux.

BINGO.

That is precisely why this is a problem of FP+.
