Two-top tables in restaurants have got to go!

Table for two would work as well, and, I might add, make more sense. Plus Table for four and so on. I have to admit that after 78 years of eating at, however, never working at any restaurant I also never heard that phrase before.

I don’t think this many decades long term is going to be replaced, some restaurant slang terms have been around since the 1800’s.

Does anyone else say to themselves, "Hey hey, ho ho," before reading this thread's title?

Clearly you have attended one too many High School Football games.
"Baby ducks, baby ducks, we want a down"

Okay, I was at a restaurant tonight with 2 seat tables. However they ALL were outside along the sidewalk at the front of the restaurant and all vacant since it was 46 degrees out. Inside tables were all 6 place. 10 of them. We were a party of 2 and we shared a table with another couple with a toddler. Not sure the restaurant qualifies as it is an Asian Fusion burger kind of fast food place, not a sit down restaurant with waiter service.

I'm sure that is the situation, but it all seems silly to me. Years ago when I was driving municipal buses our printed list of stops and the time for arrival and departure of each stop was called a "paddle". It got that name when buses first started and the dispatcher would come out to the bus and give the driver the direction and area to cover. Since the driver was much higher in the bus than the dispatcher, he would hand it to him on a flat board with a long handle and that was called a "Paddle". Even though now every driver has a very thick booklet with every route that the company covers and we get it at the time we are awarded our runs, determined by a bid based on seniority, that we carried with us all the time. That was what was referred to as a "paddle. "No physical paddle shaped anything in sight. So I guess somethings just won't change easily. BTW, calling that a paddle seemed silly to me as well.
