I love meat loaf, especially with mozzarella cheese on top.
I only took a few bites. Even my father, who’d eat practically anything, didn’t want to take the remains home. I’ve been afraid to order it in a restaurant ever since.I'm impressed there was a salad. My mom (from Ireland) made mashed potatoes every night, but I never remember a green salad growing up. I do remember sitting at the dinner table for hours because I wouldn't eat whatever vegetable was served. (I won that battle)I do not like it Sam I am. I grew up in a large family, 6 kids 5 of which were boys and not a lot of money. Mama was great at making food that was not expensive but tasty, except meatloaf. She made it alot because it was cheap to make and would feed everyone. I never liked it so on meatloaf night I had smashed potatoes and a salad. We were the kind of family you ate what was on the table or you didn't eat. There was almost always a salad and a side vegetable with every supper since lettuce and fresh vegetables (back then) were fairly inexpensive. If no fresh vegetables could be had, they shopped at the dented canned goods store (yes it was a thing). Thankfully, smashed potatoes are a meal for me and I always love a salad. Didn't eat it then, don't eat it now.
That reminds me of something DH told me about his mother’s meatballs. When growing up, he and his sibling jokingly called them cannon balls because they could shatter a window if you threw them.I don't like or eat meat loaf. I am anti-loaf anything. Anytime I did eat it it always felt like a cannon ball in by stomach.
I hate it. Y’all are crazyJust this looking over this thread is making me queasy

I couldn't eat my mother's meatloaf hot but enjoyed it cold as a sandwich. I get you on the 'eat what's served' childhood. the rule I grew up with was 'try one bite-if you don't like it we won't ask you to eat it again but you can only have what's being served' so thankfully there was always a veggie/starch and usually bread or rolls so it was fine.I do not like it Sam I am.
