WDW to prevent AP holders from visiting parks many mornings

Again, it’s great for all of us to take a rumor like this and speculate what might happen and the potential benefits or drawbacks of it. I too love to speculate and share my thoughts with the best of y’all
Agree 100%. That's why I am addicted to the DIS. The threads create great debates, interesting rumors, and actual helpful information all wrapped into one!

We disagree. However, I edited and I added, "It seems highly likely". Perhaps that helps your understanding and sensibilities.

Now, I have made no secret that I am not an insider Jon, but your statement that my statement was inaccurate is an assertion that you KNOW what Disney wants. If you know for certain that my statement was inaccurate, then how do you KNOW that? Perhaps you should disclose how you know that and your credentials.
It doesn't help my sensibilities. It helps the accuracy of what you're claiming.

There seems to be so much anger in this thread. All based on a rumor. Having a misleading title (presenting as fact) and not posting it in the rumor section doesn't help. Yes, for some this is all amusing conjecture, but when others are attacking each other for disagreeing... dunno, I think we're forgetting this started with a website that is known for not being terribly accurate for the sake of click bait. I half suspect some random person is sitting back giggling at how easy it is to rile people up.

Now. Now. Your opinion that my statement was just conjecture is itself conjecture.
I don't need "the last word" in the discussion or disagreement.
So, I will turn the mike over to you. :mic: (But Elvis has left the building.)
No- my statement that what you said is conjecture is fact. Unless you know Disney- the company itself, not one insider- wants to implement a plan that would limit AP morning park access then it's conjecture.

You're so right- this should have been moved to the rumor area days ago. And as I said earlier, the title should be changed. It's deceptive.

No. What I wrote is clear enough. I could add a weasel word like "purportedly" ("purportedly wants") but it is not necessary and you have no authority to make me do so. This is social media. Communication doesn't have to be that precise. Whiteness understood for sure.

It may not happen, but it is far from "conjecture" at this point when the prior blogger was touted to be an insider and had a picture of the already digitized and website ready choice would look like. I have said before we will have to wait and see what happens to the all-day reservations after implementation. However, just because the "insider" did not affirmatively say this will happen and couched his/her language with "if", "might" and other parsing language does not mean there isn't a substantial circumstantial evidence trail left by which reasonable persons could not observe and start planning accordingly. It is better to be very astute and watchful at this point than to just be naïve and hope for the best. There is already a track record by Disney here of, 1. having two buckets instead of one, 2. having the CEO make a speech to stockholders that they were manipulating the crowds and passholders so that they could get the right mix of profitable guests and 3. the actual fact that ticketed guests and those in bucket 1 were still being offered park reservations when those in bucket #2 were shut out (this got them into the lawsuit in California and has been observed since then at the resorts on both coasts. So, this is not just conjecture to say they are still attempting to manipulate the buckets and park reservations to the disadvantage of bucket #2. This is not just an option or additional add-on. Any savvy person is going to expect the take-away of almost all morning reservations from bucket #2 passholders. We also already paid for gate admission -- most often before those in bucket #1. They have our money and it is their duty to deliver; not to continue to try to reduce the benefit of that bargain.

I surely hope it does not happen. But if I were a betting person, at this point, I would bet on it.
Imo, while reading your posts you make them look like fact. Almost like it already happened.

As always I could be wrong, but that’s the way I’m reading it.

Do the "good neighbor" hotels use the Disney reservation system somehow? How does MDE verify these people are indeed staying at a supported resort? All I've ever put in is a reservation number (Disney, right?) and a last name. Surely these hotels aren't feeding this data freely to Disney in realtime, much less at all, for that matter.

We've had reservations at Swan and Dolphin a couple of times. The Marriott reservation # is recognized by Disney. It take a few days (so not real time) but it does eventually work.

Yes. All stemming from that one blog post.
It’s not one blog post, it’s a disney insider who’s been right about everything else he predicted so far. That insider also posted a screenshot that was either a very good fake, or evidence of it.

The guests of those 15 hotels can make reservations out of the #1 bucket. That info comes from the Disney website.

Apparently if what I post is not directly, affirmatively stated on the Disney website it is labeled conjecture and by reference, I am a liar.

I don’t think any said or even implied that. But rather it can be hard sometimes when posting to ensure that what we are posting, if not confirmed by Disney, to include phrases that make it clear it’s our opinions, speculation or conjecture.

And I speak for myself as well

Except the very first post that mentions this in the link you posted, says nothing about it preventing APs from morning entry.

It simply says it i preparing to add it. Based on that, the notion that Disney will prevent APs…title of the thread..is what is misleading or that the premise behind this move is negatively impact AP holders. .

Even the source comes out to say Disney would love the have a perfect ratio between vacationers and locals. So, even seems this person feels this move is to make things better, not worse.

This was posted by one of the insiders on another forum. Apparently it looks like WDW is going to change it’s reservation system (only for AP holders) such that “full day” reservations will be hard to come by and prioritized for ticket holders, but AP holders may be able to get reservations starting at noon, or on really high crowd days, 5:00 pm. It’s not clear how this will effect AP’s staying on site on DVC points. If you have trips coming up on AP’s you may want to make your park reservations before this change is implemented.

Edit: Not sure if the site is blocked, I’ll post a link though to check: https://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/reservation-expansion.977913/page-31

I hate the park reservation system. To me it is more of an inconvenience during a vacation. It also doesn't help that Disney IT is the worst for such a large corporation.

I agree that it is somewhat misleading to say that Disney will "prevent" APs from entering in the morning, as people are likely to interpret that as meaning that APs will not be able to use their annual passes to schedule any morning entries, ever. And I'm fairly sure that is not the case--at least, not for the AP types that Disney is currently selling.

However, it is also true that Disney doesn't "prevent" anyone from riding Remy's Adventure (for example) without paying an upcharge. I've stood in the standby line and ridden it many times. It's possible, but it can take hours (literally.) And not fun when it breaks down after 2 hours of waiting (been there.)

So a lot of people pay the upcharge to get priority over people that do not. That is how Disney monetizes access to rides like Remy, while still being able to truthfully claim that they do not "prevent" any guest from riding Remy.

That is the same kind of playbook Disney will follow for monetizing more desirable entry days and times: APs will still be able to get those reservations, in theory, but if you are more valuable to Disney (day ticket staying at a deluxe resort), then you will have an easier time getting exactly what you want. I'm not sure exactly how Disney will make that happen, but I have no doubt that they "want" to do that. They would be foolish not to try to monetize everything that people find valuable.

I hope this is clear: if your contract says you should get morning entries, you will, in theory, be able to get them. But, if Disney can somehow get people to pay extra to get priority access to the entry times they prefer, Disney will find a way to do that. Without violating your contract (at least, according to Disney's legal department.)

Of course Disney can do what Disney wants to do. But this whole thread is based on many assumptions that the purpose of offering options to AP holders is to take away morning entry.

And, even the source doesn’t claim that. It’s clear from reading what was posted from person that the intent is to find a way to both APs ans CMs options to reserve later in the day when maybe the mornings are full.

I definitely can see it as a nice option. If there are local pass holders who have this option ahead of time who know they will go later in the day it could leave more spots for the full day or even help get it back to having more last minutes options for those locals, who right now are limited.

But in the end, the key is that whatever product they sell as an AP has to be clear to the buyer of what it does and does not include.

Nothing prevents them from adjusting the AP program and if they do, that’s fine. If it changes things for current pass holders, they must give you the option to get your money back.

As I have said plenty of times, I can’t control Disney nor do I want to…they have to live with whatever business decisions they make and if it begin to impact the bottom line they will have to adjust, I also have no problem with the IAS program because if someone values their time more than the cost of it, good for them.

I thought I made it clear in my post that I am almost positive that Disney will not "take away" morning entry. Will they make it relatively easier for someone staying in a Deluxe Resort and paying full pop to score a morning entry of their choosing? Yes, I'm almost 100% sure Disney wants this and will try their best to make it happen without violating any contracts.

Look at it this way: when we got our annual passes, we knew that Disney had all of those wonderful rides, like Rise of the Resistance, etc. And that's part of why we love Disney and want to get passes.

I love that ride. But, in practice, it is such a hassle to get on it, I don't ride it every visit, anymore. I've never been on Slinky Dog. I've never done Toy Story Mania in Disney World. I used to do it in CA when I could get free Fastpasses, but not anymore. If we still got free Fastpasses, I'm sure I'd do all of those rides. But now they are "kind of" behind a paywall. Not exactly, but kind of...

I do feel that Disney has diminished the value of my AP for me compared to what I used to assume it "should" be, but without violating their contract with me. I still have access to all of those rides in theory, but not so much in practice.

And, hey, I can still get on Star Tours and Muppets 3D, right?

And you will still have full access to all of the same days your contract entitles you to. It will just be harder to get them, is all. But, yeah, it might be easier to score a last minute reservation for 5PM. Maybe that works for you, anyway? It does for me. I'm fine with this change, actually. As I've already pointed out, I can never enter before noon, anyway.

Agreed mostly. Not "taking am away" can mean far less availability in the bucket though. And how would anybody know how small bucket might become?

If they make "full pop" guest more availability, it has to come from somewhere.

I'm sure Disney has figured out a way to do it. And, as is usually the case, we'll be like frogs sitting in a pot of water. Disney will "turn up the heat" (turn down the access) subtly and gradually, to keep most of us from jumping out. They are very good at that.
