Many people look at affirmative action and wonder if that doctor got where he is through merit or through quotas.
I'm always amazed at women who are anti affirmative action, course, you did say he in reference to doctor.![]()
Welp, not that it'll hurt them in any way shape or form, but old navy will never see any of my money again.
I would NEVER want to be handed anything because I am a woman. If I can't earn it outright, I don't want it (and shouldn't get it). There are plenty of woman who are not for affirmative action. Just like there are plenty of minorities who also disagree with it.
(And, BTW, it is correct grammar to use "he" if the referenced sex is unknown.)
Since you won't support Old Navy for publicly stating their support of the "It Get's Better" project, which support the LGBT community, I'm guessing you're not going to be posting on here much anymore either. I say this because, you know the owner of the board is gay, right, and by you using this forum, you're supporting the LGBT cause as well.
The thing that bothers me most about the people who are stating they won't buy the shirt because of what it stands for is not that those people aren't in support of the GLBT community. It's that the shirt is to benefit the It Getters Better project, which is a project to let young teens know that IT GETS BETTER. It's an effort to try and stop them from taking their own life. Why wouldn't someone support that?
Interesting. To the best of my knowledge, nobody I know thinks like that - but no matter what the racial makeup of any given medical graduating class, somebody had to graduate at the bottom. Many people look at affirmative action and wonder if that doctor got where he is through merit or through quotas.

How sure are you that it wasn't your (Caucasian) doctor? Food for thought...

Exactly. I'm sure there are many here on the DIS who really don't care for the Gay lifestyle but they sure as heck aren't going to say anything. Which is exactly the problem: easy to shout people down in public, but you WILL have to get used to living with how they vote a'la Prop 8 in CA and all the amendments to state constitutions limiting marriage to one man and one woman.True, but the lack of backlash doesn't mean that their aren't people out there that disagree. To me it's more frighting to have those who hate silenced. I'd rather know who hate me. Those people have been silenced out of fear of rejection- hahah the irony!
Actually, it's not that no one wants to listen to them anymore. I'm sure they'll find plenty of outlets elsewhere. It's just that people who don't want to hear it won't have to hear it - once again - in public. Privately, these people whom you're perfectly fine with stifling will vote, choose job candidates and not do business based on their private feelings on the matter.Like who? The Westboro Baptist Church? They get to spew their hate wherever they want. And I don't think anyone likes it too much.
The shirt is a positive message...it's a beautiful message. It supports a wonderful organization. If you don't like it don't like it, don't wear one. No one's forcing you.
Frankly, I've gotten so tired of people hating on the gay community that I'm perfectly fine with them feeling bad that a day might finally come when no one wants to listen to them anymore. Enough is enough.
