Old Navy Debuts Gay Pride T-Shirts For It Gets Better

Thank you! I feel extremely lucky to live in the state of Massachusetts, where I was able to legally marry DW almost 3 years ago

It was a lot of hard work to make that happen, just as it's a lot of hard work for other states to institute equal rights for gays.

I don't apologize for bein' in anyone's face when it comes to equal rights for ALL Americans. :lmao:

I support gay rights wholeheartedly but I wouldn't buy the shirt. Just not a fan of message tees. They look crappy on me and I rarely wear them  I can support the LGBT community in different ways. :)

I'm also pro-choice, although I wouldn't elect to have an abortion personally. That being said, I wouldn't be interested in a "Save the Fetuses" shirt for the same reason I wouldn't buy the Old Navy shirts. (re: I dislike message tees. I don't need to be a billboard. I can express my opinions without my shirt doing it for me).

Also, we didn't like Princess and the Frog because we thought it was boring (music was fun but it's not a move I'd want to watch over and over again like the many other Disney movies I have in my collection). Does that make us members of the KKK? No. Do we hate black people? Absolutely not. Are we racist? No. We just don't like the movie. Ever think that could be the reason why it didn't do well in theaters? Crappy reviews? Word of mouth that it wasn't great?

As far as the post that said something along the lines of "do you buy your girls racially different babydolls?"... the same could be shot back at you, PP. Do YOU buy your girls dolls that are racially different from your girls? Racism can go both ways, if you'd like to play that card. It's not just "white" people who are "racist". Not pointing fingers by any means- just saying that it's possible for racism to occur regardless your race.

Regardless, YAY for some of the $ going to It Gets Better.

You said absolutely everything I was thinking. :thumbsup2

I'm sorry. I didn't mean something negative by it.

There are so many other groups out there still struggling to be accepted and appreciated. Did people embrace the first black Princess as much as they will embrace these shirts, No. The tickets sales prove that! DO you buy your little girls different race baby dolls?

That's great but not the norm, which is my point. This society/world still can't even accept and embrace people born a different race. How are they ever going to accept the LGBT community when even they struggle with their choice. Like I said I'm not buying it. It seems to "bandwagony" for me.

It sounds like maybe you don't like these shirts because they support a cause other than your own. Did you consider Disney "bandwagony" when they finally decided to make a move featuring a black princess? Or did you say "about time?"

That IS a bummer. :guilty:

Yes it is, I think many peoples problem with the LGBT community is that many still believe it is a choice. I too believe it is a choice but I don't care.

I keep hearing that, but I don't ever remember making that choice. I always knew I was heterosexual and I never felt, at any point, that I had the option to choose to be homosexual. I'm guessing you did, and that's why you assume others did as well?

The civil rights movement wasn't this in your face IMHO.

Yes, it absolutely was. And for good reason. Things often don't change until someone gets in your face.

For those of you who don't know, June is Gay Pride month, surely ya know this since WDW is full of gays right now celebratin' with their families, but this idea that gays are in everyone's face is really lettin' folks know we are here coz just like PrincessG sez, it's not like we all appear to be gay. ;)

It's time that folks realize we could be your neighbor, your employer 'n of course, one of your relatives. We're here, yada yada, get used to it! :lmao:

You mean they don't require y'all to wear the pink triangle any more?

I personally don't like "gays", but I ain't a racist so I couldn't care.

Oh wow, you've met every single gay person in the world and found you didn't like them? That's the only way I would think you could rightfully say you don't like gays. That's impressive!

Don't engage. It's just a spammer racking up posts so they can post a link...I feel it in me bones!

I know White people who won't go to a Black doctor because they say theyre not smart enough.

Many people look at affirmative action and wonder if that doctor got where he is through merit or through quotas.

:scared1: I cannot believe you'd even make that suggestion out loud. Member since 2006 and only 75 posts...lurking works better for you.

Darlin', I don't care if you were born that way or it's a choice, you have a right to love anybody ya want! And along with that, you should also have access to marriage, employment, housin' 'n all the other rights Americans have privilege to. :goodvibes
:goodvibes Exactly.

I did not state that I felt that way. However, whether you want to admit it or not, there are people who do feel that way. I have heard it expressed many times.

You can roll your eyes or express shock all you want but it is a thought that many people have in the back of their minds. Let's think about this. We know that some minorities have not been held to the same standards as the highest performing students. Is it truly unreasonable for some to wonder if they are meeting with someone who got through based on a quota?

The fact is that affirmative action has taken place and continues to take place. There is some backlash and attitudes such as those I referenced is part of that. Many, if not most, of these same people would be running to Ben Carson if their child needed his consultation. Black, white, purple...they know he is the best and they would never think twice about his skin color.

There are many people who want to blame everything on racism. That is not always the case. Guess what...I am extremely unhappy with our president and it has NOTHING to do with him being black!
