OFFICIAL January 2012 5K, Half Marathon, Marathon, Goofy or Dopey Challenge Thread

I'm officially in for the 1/2. First race of any kind. Can't wait.:woohoo:

I'm excited that they put out a Disney Visa offer! I was going to wait awhile but maybe I'll sign up early. I'm working on getting DH buy me the race retreat package as a very early birthday gift. Cause between the marathon, race retreat and everything else it's getting pretty pricey!

we own dvc and we always take a january trip. this time, it'll just be at the beginning of january instead of the end! so i'm calling that part even. i got the princess discount on the race entry fee as well as the commemorative pin (come on, i NEED it! lol!). as much as i want to say, "oh the entry fees are so expensive" i have to admit to myself that i p*ss away $140 on nonsense too often than i'd like to say so at least this time the $140 is for something good for me!

i don't really know that much about the race retreat. hard to tell if it's worth it or not til i get more informed. after the princess race i met up with some W.I.S.H.ers and i definitely want to do that again after the marathon. so probably the retreat won't work for me.

I was honestly SHOCKED to see DL was sold out when I was on the runDisney site today. It does make me think maybe I should sign up for Goofy now. But I'll keep my eye on it, and if it starts to look like it's filling, then I'll sign up!

I would encourage anyone looking for the half or relay to enter early rather than later. There is a buzz about both races that I have not seen for 10 years. Event the first Goofy was just a bunch of idle chatter until June 05 when the mouse said they would allow and recognized runners doing both the half and the full. The last time I saw this much buzz on the half was the 5th anniversary and it sold out in 3 weeks.

Look for lots of folks to sign up for the Max (aka little goofy) and run a half on both days.

I registered for the 2012 Dopey! I ran my first marathon in November. I ran my first Disney race last month - the Princess Half. I cannot wait for this experience!

Officially registered for Goofy number 3.

I love it more each year (my knees, however, pray that some day the Mouse will fix the cant on those roads)

My sister and I would like to do the relay, but also want to run together...hoping we can find another pair who'd like to team up with us. PM me if you're interested.

The way other races across the country have been filling up at record rates, I wasn't that surprised myself.

I'd planned to sign up for the Full and the Wine and Dine yesterday, but something that couldn't be put off came up, so I had to choose. In my priority rankings, the Full came first, so I signed up for it. If the Wine and Dine is still open next month (as of now they haven't even put it at 50%, so I'm thinking I'll be ok), I'm in that one. If not, no big deal...I've got some options around here. But I didn't want to take a chance on the Full - especially seeing HOW quickly the DL went from 75-80 (I think) to 95 to 98 to full.

I'm going to keep my eye on the registration rates, and if necessary, I can sign up while I'm out of the country (thank goodness for the magic of wifi on the road!) If i'm checking daily, I should be okay!

Coach, and anyone else with past experience, generally when you see the buzz like this and anticipate a fast filling, does runDisney usually have enough time to get the '50% full' markers up on the website? I was planning on waiting for that before committing as I'm still debating on some aspects about the time of year. If 'the Max' is running the Donald and the relay, then I am in that boat as that is what I'm considering.

Should - with 28,000 half slots it will take a couple weeks, I would think. The relay is the great unknown. Slots are limited. 10 years ago we were still operating partially on paper entry forms - thus the %full indicator did not exist.

I would look at the website Friday AM and Monday afternoon. If it goes off the scale, it should start registering on the indicator soon.

Has anyone heard if the relay will be set up in that one can be waiting with kids at the swap and then the first runner can take over with the kids? If I can get confirmation on this I'm gonna sign us up!

Have you asked runDisney? That is a question that I am sure they have not contemplated yet.

I have caught the Disney running bug after finishing the Wine and Dine half last year, so I am signing up for the full in 2012!!

"Dear Megan,
Congratulations! You are now registered for 2012 Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge. "

I can't believe I did it! Even more, I can't believe I just spent that much money!

For those of you that are friends with me on Facebook, please don't mention this on my wall at all. I haven't told everyone about it yet and I'd like to let people know in my own time. K, thanks! Bye!

:)

Does anyone know if you have to book at MYW package through disney in order to get discounted tickets for the parks, or is the ticket information not available yet? The only mention I see about tickets on the website is with MYW packages. We are booked through DVC though, so we won't be going that route.
