Just a warning...Waiter from World Showcase added money to his tip!

I've worked with a lot of POS systems and number buttons are very rarely small enough to accidentally hit the number next to it. It is possible if they had smaller number buttons to make this mistake but doubtful. And even than I knew I was dealing with other people's hard earned money so I always triple checked when entering numbers. I've never seen a 2 that looked like a 3 but this senario would be more likely but I'm sure the OP would know if her writing was that bad or not. It's more probable with these facts that it wasn't a mistake. But if it does happen going to the manager is the best thing as they can watch to see if it's happening all the time or if it was just the once.

I've sadly heard of this happening more times in the past than I should have but this is the first time hearing about it at disney. It's sad and it happens. I'm sorry you had to deal with it OP but glad that it gotten taken care of right away.

I had this happen a few years back at Chefs de France. I left cash for the tip, drew a line thru the tip amount, and the waiter still added an additional tip after I left the restaurant. I only noticed it when reviewing our charges on our bill vs. the receipts that I had. The front desk at BWV fixed my bill, but I am super careful now. This can happen at Disney :(

Unfortunately I have had this problem in other restaurants as well.

No. Via Napoli and Tutto aren't, as well as some others.

It doesn't make a *huge* difference. It only matters in terms of "possible widespread issue vs isolated vendor". Also in terms of who can best handle the problem.
Good to know. Our meal in June at Tutto (first time ever, so excited!) was very below par, and I'm not what you call a foodie by any stretch. My honey's pasta was shaped like maggots. No joke. And adult portion? Not even close. Sadly my rissotto was underdone but the lemon flavor was wonderful. But I could not even come close to recommending them, and the service too. On the other hand, quick service Mexican and amazing German kraut and sausage and grapefruit beer I can definitely recommend! (Based on all my friend's and family, who don't happen to be GF and pork free...)

Sorry OP! I have CM friends who are in service/private dining at some of the resorts, and it definitely appears to be a slow time at the moment. No excuse by any stretch, and they live and die on tips basically. It's a shame tho, because he's jeopardizing stellar table side opportunity, and they are hard to get.

Always get a receipt from tipped joints. I am sure this took you out of Disney mode. But you stand learned now and that's what matters.

Ugh. Sorry that happened to you OP. Will definitely make sure I get final receipts next week! Thanks for the heads up.

I may be naive about this, but I don't think I have ever gotten a second receipt from a restaurant after I enter a tip. I just write the tip amount on my copy of the receipt and take it along. If anyone has ever changed a tip amount on me I haven't noticed, and I always review my credit card statements pretty closely. And, if a restaurant or two has bumped up a tip on me, so be it. It isn't worth it to me to take more time to have the waiter pick up the signed receipt and then return with another one.

I was once told this no matter where you are. Look at the amount if you want to attach a tip fill it in and tally it up. If you giving cash cross out the tip line and bring down the total. Some another words if the bill is $100.00 and you want to leave $20.00 fill in the tip line and tally it to $120.00. I don't think he made a mistake the way he rushed you out and didn't give you a receipt. You need your receipt that is how you keep track of your and expenses and how many meals you have left on your meal plan.

Yes, but when you pay for some part of your meal with a credit card (outside of WDW), you don't leave without signing one of the receipts. You write down your tip, total and sign and leave the copy for the waiter. In WDW, on the DP, if the only thing going on your credit card is the tip, they bring you the bill, then you write down the tip twice. The waiter then brings you another copy showing the tip amount that was charged on your card and you sign that copy and keep one for yourself (hopefully).

Just to clarify for other readers who are wondering about the WS restaurants...

Disney operates:
Canada
United Kingdom
America
Germany
Norway

These are operated by other companies:
France
Morocco
Japan
Italy
China
Mexico

According to this list, the restaurant involved is not operated by Disney.

So sorry this happened to you, OP! That really put a damper on the beginning of your trip. Glad to hear that the rest was magical and that you enjoyed the Poly.

Thank you for posting about this so we can be sure to be vigilant with our receipts.

This is exactly why I pay tips in cash and write "Cash" on the tip line. Not only at WDW but at every eatery that we go to. This removes any doubts/confusion. If a tip comes up later you know it isn't a mistake and that someone is deliberately trying to take what you did not give. I haven't had a problem with this system.. Kinda of hard to put in a $$ with the word "Cash" written on the line. :)

Ah, OK. I have never used the Dining Plan and am not familiar with that procedure.

We had a similar experience at Coral Reef. The service had been terribly slow, the waiter was never around, bad food... and we were almost out of our fast pass window for Soarin, so hubby stayed behind while I went running with the kids since the check was taking forever. He left cash for the tip and we charged to the room the drinks. I always write "cash" on the tip line, but DH did not. I am looking over the charges the next night and I see it's for way more then the one drink I had. Yup, the waiter decided to just add in his own tip. (because 15% on horrible service wasn't enough) We got the front desk to take the charges off.

I like to put the tips on the credit card because then I can get the 2% reward on my Disney Visa Reward card.

Sounds like the OP handled it well.

You do have to be very careful, at LTT we had a chatty waitress who was so chatty she mixed up our bill with another table (she shared way too much personal info imho). Well the other table signed theirs (which was ours) and scooted right out. DH looked ours over carefully and realized it was significantly more than it should have been. We had all left to use the rest rooms and wait outside, he had to wait and wait for her to finally come back. Since the other family had "paid" our bill he had to wait while a manager straightened it out and reprinted our correct bill. I was frustrated waiting so came back in and the waitress brought us 4 cold water bottles to take into the park with us and apologized. Nothing done on purpose but if he hadn't have paid attention we would have paid a lot more, and the other family got off easier, wonder if they really knew or not? :rolleyes1
