Just a warning...Waiter from World Showcase added money to his tip!

We had a similar experience at Coral Reef. The service had been terribly slow, the waiter was never around, bad food... and we were almost out of our fast pass window for Soarin, so hubby stayed behind while I went running with the kids since the check was taking forever. He left cash for the tip and we charged to the room the drinks. I always write "cash" on the tip line, but DH did not. I am looking over the charges the next night and I see it's for way more then the one drink I had. Yup, the waiter decided to just add in his own tip. (because 15% on horrible service wasn't enough) We got the front desk to take the charges off.

Wow, it's a good thing Disney does not charge our cards until we check out! A lot easier to contest a charge with Disney than my credit card company (I'm guessing). Glad you caught it!

It is obviously easier to contest something closer to the source, but the credit card company can be pretty helpful too. If you claim an unauthorized charge, or a charge in an amount other than what you agreed to pay, they will investigate.

Good to know. Our meal in June at Tutto (first time ever, so excited!) was very below par, and I'm not what you call a foodie by any stretch. My honey's pasta was shaped like maggots. No joke.

If you aren't familiar with a pasta shape, and would be put off by certain shapes (which frankly, is puzzling to me), I would inquire before ordering.

Just as a heads up, they may charge your card before you check out. Despite having a limit on the room credit (which I believe was just raised to $1,500 for value and moderate and $2,000 for deluxe) most will charge your card before you hit the limit, to avoid inconveniencing you at the parks. Typically they will run them each night if you are near your limit. I have no idea what the actual percentage is, but if you have racked up $1,400 of your $1,500 limit, they will usually run it that night simply so you don't have your room charge get declined when trying to pay for lunch the next day.

If you have your receipt, you financial institution might be able help you. If it's not a large discrepancy, the bank usually just eats it. It's still best to address at its source, especially if someone is altering receipts.

1 2 3 - they're all next to each other. It could have just as easily been a $15 tip instead of a $25 tip. I guess this waiter was right handed?

Thanks for the information. I will definitely be watching and saving my final receipts from my upcoming trip. 38 days to go!!

Old saying, If it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck...its a duck. Another one is three strikes your out. Wonder where the chap is stealing from now.

Sorry for jumping in on this , but someone please tell me what I have to do.
From Australia , we don't tip over here.
We have the dining plan for our visit in December and have booked our Adr's. I know 2 of them have the tip included.
So on the others what happens? They give me a bill , so does it show how much the meal cost? And then it comes off dining plan?
I want to leave the tips in cash, so by what I can gather, I write the tip amount down and then get a final receipt to keep?
Ty

If you are going to tip in cash, just write the word cash where it says tip on bill, leave the cash and you're good to go!

I recently had to contest charges on my CC. Turns out my cc number had been stolen. my cc company was fantastic! They immediately stopped payment on those charges, closed the card and assigned me a new cc. its definitely preferable to not have to do that in the first place, but i was very happy with how quickly they stepped up.

Thanks for the heads up - we'll be sure to keep an eye on this during our upcoming trip!

When I am vacationing at a place like WDW, where there are many tourists and these types of fraudulent charges are sadly not uncommon, I always make it a habit to use my cell phone to take a quick photo of the receipt with my tip hand-written in (even if I just write the word "cash" on the tip line) and save the picture until I have reconciled all my charges on the final bill. That way, there is absolutely no question what the charges should be for any given meal, and I have the evidence immediately accessible at any time since it's there on my phone.

Your meal was below par (in part) because you decided not to like exactly what you ordered? It is not the restaurant's fault if you don't know your pastas - ask the waiter about it if you don't know a particular pasta!

I have never gotten a final receipt. I do t think. I usually get a receipt, write in a tip and sign. That's it. Does a final receipt show the full amount including top charged on my card? I should probably request one and not just at Disney huh? If I understand this correct.

I'm curious as well. At a Disney Table Service restaurant, can you ask for a final receipt that shows the TOTAL amount that will be charged?

I'm actually very glad that in many restaurants here where I live canada, many of the portable credit card terminals, allow you to enter the tip (by cash or percentage) and then the bill prints out right there, giving you the total amt paid, including tip.

This is a bit saddening to hear that such a thing might have happened, and the next time i'm in the world I'll be double checking on receipts.

I had this happen a few years back at Chefs de France. I left cash for the tip, drew a line thru the tip amount, and the waiter still added an additional tip after I left the restaurant. I only noticed it when reviewing our charges on our bill vs. the receipts that I had. The front desk at BWV fixed my bill, but I am super careful now. This can happen at Disney :(

This is why I never leave cash tips. This has happened to me not only at Disney, but different restaurants all of the place over the years. Hard to believe, and sad, but true. Now, if Disney would just include the tip with the dining plan like it used to, this would at least be a non issue for us when at WDW....
