Just a warning...Waiter from World Showcase added money to his tip!

We had something similar. We are a family of 6, so tip automatic. We always use cash, no room charging, too hard to keep track of. We left the cash tip, like we did every other of our 10 meals that trip. We went to check out on our last day and as informed we owe $38 for a tip that was charged. I said no, we paid cash, and I am not paying again. They argued with me and I finally got a manager to remove it. I kept saying check my receipt because I clearly wrote 0- cash tip on every receipt with my signature.

Here's where there might have been the problem....when you are a party of 6 or more, the tip is automatically added. When using your DP you need to tell the server that you will be paying extras with CASH including the tip. Writing in 0 in the tip line simply means that you don't want to add to the 18% not that you are paying cash. The server should have deducted the cost of the grat and deleted that off your check. You would have gotten another check with just the DP left to sign for and the grat balance saying cash payment.

I'm another to add to the "if it doesn't seem right, it probably isn't" group. Yes, it could have been an accident. Yes, the waiter could be new or just 'strange' in how he interacts with customers. But whether at WDW or anywhere else in the US where you leave it up to the server to input the tip into his/her machine based on something you wrote on a slip, you run the risk of fraudulent charges. A number of years ago, a show like 60 Minutes had an episode about WDW, where their internal audit team uncovered widespread theft occurring at restaurants from wait staff overcharging on tips, pocketing cash tips & charging add'l amounts, etc. They aren't immune from rogue employees, and it behooves all of us to be watchful/cognizant and double check your actual charges against receipts. In one aspect, the DDP is good, in that you do receive that final copy! I'll be ecstatic the day we move into the world of table-side card readers, where you (1) don't lose sight of your card, and (2) input the tip amount you wish to leave.
(stepping off soap box now)

Your meal was below par (in part) because you decided not to like exactly what you ordered? It is not the restaurant's fault if you don't know your pastas - ask the waiter about it if you don't know a particular pasta!
It is the restaurant's fault if the risotto is grainy and tough, THAT one I have had before. It is their fault if their signature quail is dry (that was another meal at our table) and our GF friend didn't get what she ordered until she explained it to two more waiters, very unusual for Disney. (They served a plate of only the Italian shaved ham, not the appetizer with the figs and goat cheese wih a substitute GF bread, the whole point of the meal. She had to ask them to bring evey thing else the meal came with so she could sadly assemble it herself! And it was their 17th anniversary dinner and very first day ever at Disney...)

Frankly the horrible looking pasta did get eaten but it honestly looked like a children's portion for my poor 6'3" hub, he went looking for anyone else's left overs. And that is at $25-30 per plate. It was a serious let down all ways around. As far as the husbands maggot shaped noodles, I didn't order it (I'm GF!) So he ordered for himself. As mentioned, he finished his little bitty bowl. However, I didn't ask for a bowl of tomato covered maggot noodles to be sat down right in front of me...I'm an innocent by stander! Lol EW!!! It was the first time I have definitely been glad I was GF! I'm not saying he sent it back. You guys are blaming me. He ate it, and I had to watch him. Why should pasta ever look like that? There were endless Klingon jokes that night... They were shaped like fat maggot slugs, with the ridges and everything. They looked like they could have crawled out.

The only redeeming factor was the GF dessert my new to EP friend ordered. It ended in a very high note because she sung and sung its praises. Which is more than they could say about free dried out happy anniversary cake they served to the couple (half of which was GF anyway and couldn't eat it) Her hub ate part of it because it was there.

Best meal I ever had anywhere in my life was Brown Derby. Last year finally got to try Monsieur Paul, it was solid (not nearly as creative menu wise and service was not nearly as accommodating as Derby.) This Tutto was a big embarrassment compared to both of those. I think they would have rather walked around show case instead so my plan to welcome them to the Worlds backfired. It definitely took too much time and did NOT add at all the experience.

Y'all can back up off blaming me for his gross looking pasta. I had nothing to do with it.

You didn't read what I wrote, I did write"0-cash" on the line, like I did with all 10 of our Meals that trip. There was cash put in with it, he didn't just miss it.

I did read what you wrote...at that point the tip had already been charged to your room. Putting in 0 in the tip line meant that you didn't want to add extra.
What he did was wrong, no doubt, but when he brought you the slip to sign you should have seen that it was charged and called him on it then. The charge would have been removed and you would have had a new slip to sign

We had a similiar issue as wdw4rfam did. We ate at Captain's Grille. There were 7 in our party, we had charging turned off on our cards and left a cash tip. When checking out I got an email w/ a final bill that showed we were charged to our room for the tip. Guest Services at CBR was great and removed the charge. It's definetly made me more careful about getting the receipts and watching my charges.

Now that's odd because when you don't have charging privledges it will show up on the computer that you don't. The only way to over ride that is the manager has to look it up in the computer and contact your resort for info

The way that it works on the DP is this:
You receive a bill that has all the amounts for ordered items as well as suggested tip amounts at the bottom. IF you want to charge a tip to your room, you write the amount in the tip area and give it to the server. They will scan your MB, deduct the dining credits, charge the tip to your room and return for a signature that says you acknowledge the use of DP and tip charge. Unless there is a signature line that says SIGNATURE line...you are not done with the transaction. If you want to pay cash...write CASH not an amount in the tip line. Add the cash to the check book and have the server run your credits. You will still have to sign for the DP

HTH
That's what I needed to know ty. Something else I need to remember how to do, think we will stick to cash tips , probably won't have the charging thing applied to room, that way I won't overspend.
But to tell you the truth with reading all this info, It all sounds very confusing. I will keep all the receipts. So glad we don't have tipping here in Australia

We had a similar experience a few years ago. We were on the dining plan and in epcot. I told the waitress that we would pay for the tip and my one margarita with cash. When checking out, I was told that I needed to pay for a margararita. I was really aggravated. It can just put a sour taste in your mouth, and we have never been back to that restaurant.

I already think the food is so overpriced. We usually just do a couple of our favorite sit downs a trip now. We are a party of six so gratuity is automatic. I use Disney gift cards now to pay, and that seems to work pretty well.

I can still hear that waitresses little spill at the beginning of our meal. She spent a good five minutes introducing herself. We ordered, got our food, had to beg for drink refills and our check. I thought maybe she could have used her time with us during our meal instead of making friends with us at the beginning.

OP, it is frustrating!

No, the tip wasn't added yet. That is what I am saying, I had all my receipts, and still have it. It looks like all my other meals that trip. He added it after we left, basically like we skipped out and never paid it. I quickly realized, with a large party, I'm never using cash for tips again, because there is no record you ever paid the tip in cash. I never got a receipt from my tips, who would think you needed one.

Stay with your gut. The OP did not name the restaurant to protect if the situation was misunderstood.
Nothing wrong with the title or the warning. Yes it is possible is was a mistake, but it was handled correctly in either instance!
I for one, appreciate the warning and will pay close attention this trip.

I can see where gnocchi might be described that way. It's generally little ridged dumplings.

I once ordered a pizza here locally, and was put off by how much eggplant was on it. My friend pointed out that it had aubergine right in the name of the pizza. LOL. I didn't know that was french for eggplant.

Point being, you can't blame a restaurant if you're unfamiliar with the terms in the dishes. That's all. And if I'm reading a review like yours, I will tend to discount it because of that one complaint. Just like someone should discount my complaint that my aubergine pizza had too much eggplant on it.

When I am vacationing at a place like WDW, where there are many tourists and these types of fraudulent charges are sadly not uncommon, I always make it a habit to use my cell phone to take a quick photo of the receipt with my tip hand-written in (even if I just write the word "cash" on the tip line) and save the picture until I have reconciled all my charges on the final bill. That way, there is absolutely no question what the charges should be for any given meal, and I have the evidence immediately accessible at any time since it's there on my phone.

We do this as well. We were PCSing (Permant Change of Station - Military) and we ate at a buffet, and we did a $5.00 tip. I ALWAYS check the bank to see pending charges, etc... each day, and there was a $$15.00 tip - I called our bank the next morning and called the restaruant as well. They were nice about it and offered us a free meal, but we were driving on that next day. The bank took care of it, but if it hadnt' been for me taking a picture, i wouldn't have remembered exactly (but i would have known i woudlnt tip $15 at a buffet)

Personal preference over my personally not liking the shape of his noodle does not discount their not fully serving the appetizer with the ingredients it came with, or the underdone risotto or my BILs dried out quail. My only point in bringing this up is because their service and especially their food fell well short of the other sit down Disney experiences we have come to expect, and someone pointed out that they aren't run by Disney. Thank goodness for that tidbit. You can discount whatever you like, it doesn't change the fact that the meal was subpar even if you don't believe I have a worthy critique because you don't think I have a clue. (As mentioned, I don't memorize noodles because I don't get to eat them, I didn't order it, even so, its presentation was completely displeasing and its portion fell way short.)

Give me your eggplant any day!

I wonder with this if the issue was party size. There's an automatic gratuity of 18% added to parties of 6 or more, so I'm wondering if was part of the bill and the cash was considered extra tip. I could easily see this happening without ill will, and just do to a confusing receipt.
