Hotel Dog Policy - Question for those who have stayed with dogs

I have a very specific question for anyone who has stayed at one of the dog-friendly Disney hotels. Disney policy states that owners must be able to provide proof of vaccination upon request, but it doesn't really say how this is enforced. My question is whether or not you were actually asked for documentation at any point in time during your stay. I ask because I'm wondering how this might be handled if we are doing online check-in.

Thanks!

I don't have the answer to your specific question but have you taken a look at this tread here in the Resorts Forum:

Thanks for the reply, Dave. I did read that but found it mostly to be talking about what the policy is, and not how it was applied. The way the policy is written is very ambiguous...it basically says that owners should be prepared to provide documentation but doesn't say if they will actually be required to or how they would do so. So I'm trying to get a better sense of how Disney is applying this policy in this particular case to minimize complications for our next trip. Thanks.

It sounds random. Just get proof of vaccination from your vet before you go. Better to have it and not need it...

Agree. Even with on line check in, you sometimes still have to go to the desk. I think you get some kind of treats & a hang tag for the door when you’re bringing a dog. I expect you will need to actually go to the desk when you arrive, at which point you might be asked for your proof. You do need to get that hang tag, because it is what let’s the staff know there is a dog there. They probably do a random check for vaccinations.

OP, The way to minimize complications would be to have it available & show it if asked.

It’s simple.. carry a sheet of paper with proof of vaccination. Also take a pic on your smart phone. Takes up zero space. not that difficult a concept. Have it on hand. Better to do so than not be able to show and be denied checking in.

Thank you for your kind and helpful responses! :)

You might not be able to go directly to your room if you are bringing a dog with you. There are times when they don't provide a room number and tell you to report to the front desk to get your room assignment. Your vet should be able to give you a sheet that tells all your current vaccinations for your dog.

My daughter had to bring her dog with us on a visit last year and they did not ask for the vaccine records. We were at PO Riverside.

we travel a lot with our dog not just Disney but I always carry copy of her shot record as I never know when I will need. this was before dogs allowed at other resorts but I had to show at the Campground. they just checked that all dates were valid

Interesting. And this is sort of what I was getting at. Historically Disney is not very consistent with the enforcement of policies. I'll still abide, but just looking to hear about experiences around their practices. Thanks.

Dogs in Fl MUST be vaccinated 4 months or older with a rabies shots. Should an emergency happen and you need to take the dog to a vet you will need vaccination papers.

There is word, not official, that the pet dogs will be at FW only.

I didn't know they allowed pets at disney. All my years going and in 20+ trips never saw one.

Some resorts became pet friendly a few years ago.

Service animals have always been permitted.

The policy states:

I’m not sure why you feel that isn’t being enforced. The policy doesn’t indicate the documentation will be requested or must be shown. Bring the required documentation; you may or may not be asked for it.
Exactly. Because this is a bit unclear, I was looking to hear what others' experiences have been.

I'm sorry if I wasn't more clear in that. I'm not saying that I feel it isn't being enforced. I'm just saying that traditionally, policies are enforced differently by different cast members. Not criticizing, it's just the nature of a large company with tens of thousands of employees. A good example would be Fastpasses. Some CMs let people go through when the tapstile turns blue. Others don't. The one stark exception to this is height restrictions on rides, which is a policy I have yet to see a CM deviate from.

We were at the Cabins at Fort Wilderness this past weekend with a dog. We did online check-in and were given a room number to go directly to our cabin via text. When entering the gate, I asked the gate attendant if we could go straight to the cabin even though we had a dog and he said yes but he did say we were welcome to stop at the drive-thru check-in if we wanted to double check. We did and the CM there had us sign some paperwork about having a dog during our stay, provided us our Pluto welcome kit (which included a door hanger indicating we had a dog in our room) and sent us on our way. We were never asked to provide proof of vaccinations but I did have them with me.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Sounds like it's a good idea to have them even though they probably won't be needed. Sort of like 100 other things people pack with them when they go on a Disney vacation. :)

I would just consider the hassle involved if they do ask you for it and you don’t have the document with you. A quick phone call to your vet would be much easier.
