Cats & Bats & Healthy Chats - October 2024 W.I.S.H. Thread

This morning's coffee stop... and another thing I'm really going to miss when I move.

I did come up with a couple to do's for the weekend: dropping off some Amazon returns and going to see a movie I'm interested in. I'll also continue to work on resetting and deep cleaning the house, I finally started with the living room yesterday and it feels so much better. I also want to get out my watercolors and play around with them, but still a pretty chill weekend, so hurrah for that.

What a beautiful view @Oneanne!!

Happy Friday to everyone! I didn’t babysit today due to my BILs work schedule, so DD and I had hair appointments, I purchased some physical Disney gift cards for our trip and picked up my MIL for lunch with DD and I. Did some cleaning and laundry as well.

My niece comes tomorrow morning instead for the rest of the weekend which actually worked out great because our church is having their fall fest tomorrow so that will be fun. Our oldest son and his family are coming as well as my in-laws and oldest nieces and nephews so it should be a great day!

I am off to trunk or treat at my nieces and nephews school!! Excited to see all the trunks decorated!

I love trunk or treats - this is the 22nd year my church has been doing one. Since our (mostly) empty nest, we are always gone during the week of Halloween, so we've missed the last few. I wish we weren't as limited as to when we can travel, but until we retire, we are, so I guess it is what it is!

It’s been a busy week peeps just kind of catching up.
Thankful for brainless tv shows to help you unwind at night
Thankful for the in office health clinic for its convenience and price
Thankful for text chains that are often quiet but when they are active are hysterical

DH has been in a funk for awhile now and I just don’t know what to do with it anymore. It’s very frustrating when someone won’t take any steps to improve their situation you know? Anyway weekend is going to be busy so hopefully that will be a good thing we’ll see

I don't seem to have good luck finding fun quizzes, so how about some Halloween questions.

What is a favorite costume you've either worn yourself or helped someone put together?
Are you dressing up this year?
How about a favorite Halloween memory?
What is your favorite Halloween candy? How do you feel about candy corn?

Have you ever been to Mickey's Not So Scary or Oogie Boogie?

Catching up:

Thankful for -

Breakfast out with friends this morning

A sunny autumn day

Coffee!

Social Questions -

What is a favorite costume you've either worn yourself or helped someone put together?

- A turtle costume I made DS when he was around 4. The "shell" was basically a big fleece pillow and one of the cats adopted it as soon as DS got home from trick-or-treating. It has lived on all these years as a cat bed.

Are you dressing up this year?
- No, other than a Halloween shirt for handing out candy.

How about a favorite Halloween memory?
- When I was little, my dad made me a green crayon costume out of poster board. (I loved it!) I could walk in it, but not sit down, so I have a very funny memory of being carefully lifted into the car and laid across the back seat to go trick-or-treat at a couple of non-neighbors' houses.

What is your favorite Halloween candy?
- Reece's peanut butter pumpkins 🎃

How do you feel about candy corn?
- I like it.

Have you ever been to Mickey's Not So Scary or Oogie Boogie?

- No.

Going back to the Saturday questions:

What is a favorite costume you've either worn yourself or helped someone put together?
...
for Mickey's Not So Scary quite a few years ago I wore a tutu over a back tee shirt and biker shorts and had a headband that had a gravestone on it. Nothing fancy, but when we rode Big Thunder, it filled the car with tulle that blew around and made me giggle the entire time.
Are you dressing up this year?
...
I don't think so. My town really gets into Halloween with a parade and trick-or-treating on the main street, but I'll probably just wear my autumnal headband that has leaves and antlers.
How about a favorite Halloween memory?
...
the above-mentioned Mickey's Not So Scary.
What is your favorite Halloween candy? How do you feel about candy corn?

... I like the first few pieces of candy corn but then it is just too sweet.

Have you ever been to Mickey's Not So Scary or Oogie Boogie?
... Mickey's twice but not Oogie Boogie, it does sound fun tho.

For Sunday Self-care:

I haven't been feeling well the past few days, so need to figure that out. I think a nice walk will help and it is clear skies so far this morning.

TUESDAY TOPIC: Who are your people?

View attachment 905782

A couple things have come up lately that have gotten me to thinking about my family ancestry. One was a recent update sent from Ancestry on my genetic make-up from a blood test I did about five years ago - it changed things quite a bit. Another was a documentary done by a lady exploring her Irish heritage, having been the third generation of her family to live in Minnesota.

How much do you know about your family ancestry?
Have you ever done family tree research or done one of the blood tests?
Is there anything you've learned that was surprising?
Or anything that has influenced your quest for more healthy living?
I am fortunate to have a lot of documentation on my mother’s side, some of which is currently in museums. My grandmother’s family came over on the Mayflower and one of my ancestors signed the Mayflower Compact. They were members of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution. One of my ancestors is Charles Stratton, aka Tom Thumb who was a little person and a very famous circus performer for P.T. Barnum. My maternal grandfather came over from Ireland. My paternal grandparents came from Sweden.

I have not done any bloodwork related to genealogy.

I can’t recall a favorite costume, but I do remember being very excited to be Casper the friendly ghost as a very young child.
I am going to be a Disney Parks Guest on Halloween whose favorite ride is the Haunted Mansion.
Favorite Halloween memories are from DD’s childhood, helping her choose her costume, trick or treating, and parties with friends.
Favorite candy is anything chocolate. I like candy corn.
I have never been to Disney in October because I have to teach. I’m hoping that after I retire, I’ll be able to bring my future grandchildren.

I’m still quite overwhelmed and I really have trouble participating daily. I’m trying to get here when I can. I feel bad because I haven’t been carrying my weight. I can’t remember the last time I hosted.

For the month of November, the only week I can guarantee that I can host would be Thanksgiving week, the last week of November. Is that okay with everyone?

Of course it is! And while I think I speak for everyone that we're glad that you've checked in so we know you're OK, having taught before, I also absolutely understand why you haven't been here everyday! You've been through a lot, and some classes are exhausting, and you deserve to put yourself first in your time off. I wish I could send you some practical help, but know we're thinking of you and sending you good wishes for kindergarten miracles. 🤞

Please don’t worry about hosting! You take care of yourself!!
