Roundup at the Fort - 2024 Fort Dismeet

It is finished.

That means for most of you, it's time to go home now. It will have to be tomorrow (Saturday) because we are already past the check-out time for Friday. But it's time.

@WalkingintheFog , you can stay longer.

Just wanted to let the puzzlers in the group know that I am soldiering on alone at home to finish our puzzle.

I resumed work on it yesterday (Tuesday Nov 12) here is where I left it.

We had a little drizzly rain this afternoon which made fine puzzle time and I made some more progress today (Wed Nov 13).

Several folks in our group (@Teamubr and others) are leaving on the 16th (Saturday) and I recall @WalkingintheFog saying after she returned from the KOA she was there for another week (or two?). So I'd like to try to get this puzzle done by the end of this weekend for sure.

Oh Lordy the pressure I put on myself! :crowded:

ED

1. What do you do with all your assembled puzzled?
. . . spray them and frame them for posterity?
. . . disassemble and wait until boredom sets in and you re-assemble?
. . . put the pieces back into the box and store in basement or garage?
. . . you both work on so many puzzles, I always wondered the fate of each.

2. I used to do puzzles, especially after my car crash, while bed-ridden.
. . . with a back broken in two spots, not much else I could do.
. . . golf was permanently out, so one of my buddies gave me two golf-inspired puzzles
. . . it was painful to think about not golfing again, but it passes the time

@TheRustyScupper It dependson the puzzle for us.

1. glued a few to hang in the libarary/sitting room for Melissa
2. gluing and hanging hte 10 panel 40k piece puzzle in my office (only room with a big wall)
3. others we put back in the box to assemble another day (usually 1k pieces or less.)

. . . disassemble and wait until boredom sets in and you re-assemble?

^THIS^ for me.

Over the years I've settled on topics that I LIKE and thus I KEEP those puzzles:

- Disney related (classic movies, parks, Mickey/Minnie)
- train related
- lighthouse/beach related

If a puzzle is very hard, I'll finish it once and then donate it at the local public library bookstore. I'm not doing this to punish myself - I'm doing it to have fun, engage my mind, and socialize with those fellow puzzlers.

I have only framed and hung one puzzle (a steam train in Ohio that is no longer available to the public that we rode when the kids were young) so that's not the motivation. I have very few 750 piece puzzles but primarily work 1,000 piece which usually takes the length of my vacation (or a little overhang as in the DISMeet case).

Plus, the 1,000 piece puzzles is usually the maximum size my Ravensburger storage case can hold.

ED

PS - so to Rusty's point in the quoted portion, I DO reassemble the ones I keep but only when I go camping.

I took our time getting us home and tried not to iron side the ride home. First day was about 7.5 hours and a stop at New Green Acres, we got in before dark which is good since my site was a little tight getting into. I had a bag meal and relaxed watching TV....turns out when you skip lunch my serving size is "family size" bag meal.

Day 2 heading north was a shorter run, we actually parked by 4pm, sunset was an hour later. I thought about then when planning and chose to stop rather then try to park us at my house it he dark. There I ordered some Papa Johns (since they delivered) and again watched some TV. I did manage to start some of the end of season cleaning too.

Day 3 was a quick short of 4 hour run to my house, and I made sure to dump and flush my black tanks for the winter. We arrived at my house around 1PM and quickly unhitched the trailer from @MrsPAHunter , moved her bike into the RV, let her get a quick hello and bio break in before we sent her on her way home. Afterwards I got everything backed up the driveway and started the unload process. My goal is unload, clean and winterize the RV by Wednesday night.

Friday morning I hitch it back up and take it down to General RV to have some checks done by request of Grand Design since I found possible issues forming in the front slide. It started with an email to them asking for advice on 1. fixing the broken screws I found on my front living room slide, and 2. what else to check that might be causing the issue and solve it for good. Based on that and some pictures I sent then asked me to make an appoitment with my dealer to get some meansurements done. Sounds to me like they may step up and help so I am going to do my part. I am guessing here but the outcome of Friday is either I am asked to leave it with General RV to make the repairs, or asked to bring it to Elkhart, IN to be repaired at the factory.....but that is another thread.

Still here! Loving my Fort!

Neighbours have come & gone, it’s a constant turnover!

The flies are well and thriving! My blood is like crack for them, so many many bites, that blister and welt (mmm, sexy image, eh?)…necessitated a visit to healthcare: a shot, legs dressed, and sent back with meds & ointment & dressings… no more pool time this trip, boo hoo!

Have gotten up a crazy o’clock to get rope drop for each park: First Iin line at DHS on my birthday & practically the first one on Remy that day! Have managed 2x FOP, NA’VI,ROTR, GOTG…5x SOARING (so far!) & almost very ride once!…. I’m loving all the roller coaster type rides - eyes wide open for all! GOTG is slightly better than TRON!

GOTG is the worst. Roll-pitch-yaw all at the same time in the dark. :sad2: TRON was fine for me.

But glad you're still hanging in there. Sorry to hear the bugs like to bite you. That's an issue for some of us when we go to Gulf State Park on the Alabama Gulf Coast in late May (as we will do in 2025). I wear a light long sleeve shirt and some light long pants, tube socks, and shoes to cover up. It's usually worst in early morning or late afternoon twilight there.

PS - let us know when you finally leave the Fort to head for home, @WalkingintheFog . You're the last one to leave the party so we'll let you turn off the lights on this trip report when you check out.

Elvis has left the building,

Well b’ys, it was an amazing time… Disney, the Fort, and all of you.

I’m back home to the Rock and our typical weather of RDF (rain, drizzle, fog) …a local weatherman commented it only rained twice last week: 3 days and 4 days, Weather aside, there's no home like home!

And no place like Disney! Especially a Disney campground!

The sounds and smells in a campground, whether of nature or of man, are 2nd to none.

3 wks was not enough time for me & already looking forward to next trip end of April ….I loved my time in the tent, the only thing I’d wish for is an attached full sized bathroom/shower!

But the magic that is Disney is like nothin* else!

Now Mouseketeers
There's one thing we want you
Always to remember

Come along and sing our song
And join our family

M-I-C

Through the years we'll all
Be friends
Wherever we may be.
M-I-C
K-E-Y
M-O-U-S-E

Mickey Mouse

Forever let us hold our

Now its time to say goodbye
To all our company

1. Was in the process of placing my newly-acquired Germany Beer Stein.
. . . yes, the one bama_ed bought
. . . yes, the one of which I was so jealous.
2. Wife and I reminisced about this year's DIS-MEET
3. It was so much fun seeing old friends and meeting new ones.
4. I could not believe how the weather and park crowds and cooperated!
. . . the night of the picnic/party, it started to rain
. . . just as it was announced the food was ready, the wetness stopped!
. . . in strolling the parks, we NEVER had a wait-line longer than 10-minutes
. . . during post-COVID, this is unheard

5. Alas, there was one missed and incomplete activity
. . . we have pity for the two individuals
. . . we feel their pain
. . . we accept their disappointment
6. BAM_ED and MRS_BAMA could not complete their crossword puzzle
. . . finishing puzzles is a tradition for them
. . . finishing puzzles is an feat to discuss during the balance of the trip/vacation
. . . finishing puzzles is a bragging rite after getting home
7. Maybe next year, they will have the time and energy to get it finished.

8. Until the next DIS-MEET,
. . . whether a formal event or casual camping.
. . . see, you real soon, why? because we like you !
