I had to fill out the order form tonight for DS's cap and gown and graduation announcements. It has to be turned in tomorrow. I can't believe how fast this year is going. I really wish it would just slow down.![]()
Congrats!Woo Hoo! DS17 just got his first acceptance - The Ohio State University!
Is that the one in Bloomington? I'm kind of bummed because I didn't realize until last week that my son's new SAT scores bumped him up to the automatic scholarship that would have put Indiana under the price range we've been trying to stick to. He would have had to apply by 1 November. I would love to hear what he thought about Indiana. We have to wait for December for U of Ill..
DS#2 is going to U of Indiana this week.. going to classes and doing a dorm sleepover.. it will be interesting to hear how he feels after the visit..
This is so true! I was reading a thread on college confidential the other day and someone commented that all of the top 20 schools could fill their entire freshman classes with qualified students from 5 areas in the country--two were in New York, one in Massachusetts, one in Chicago, and one in...Northern Virginia. It's definitely something to be concerned about. No, I think we're concerned too. I almost wish everyone would stop saying "Oh DD won't have any trouble!" Well, she *might*, especially with our ethnic background (mostly European) & geographic location (large suburban affluent school district). There might already be enough of DD's type at the schools she's applied to.
I think we're done here, too. I love my son's guidance counselor--he mentioned to her that he'd wanted to ask a certain teacher for a recommendation because he'd had her for all of his business and marketing classes, plus FBLA sponsor, but she wasn't teaching there anymore. His guidance counselor tracked her down (she'd moved halfway across the state) and asked her to write him a recommendation, which she happily did. I'm so glad my daughter has the same counselor. We're doing the Happy Dance around here. No, not the 'Accepted into..." Dance, but the "ALLDD'sAppsandallherSupplements/Essayshavebeensubmitted". wooooo-hoooooooo! Now the school just has to mail out (yeah, snail mail) her Official High School Transcript Packets (Transcript + Counselor Recommendation + Teacher Recommendation) and it will be *done*.
And so the waiting begins...

Woo Hoo! DS17 just got his first acceptance - The Ohio State University! He only wanted to apply to 2 schools - OSU and Florida State - and I've been concerned that that's too few. We've searcehed high and low and no other schools appeal to him. We finally decided to apply to 2 smaller (in-state) schools as safeties - I guess he doesn't need to do that now!
DS21 is currently attending OSU and both DH and I are alumni, so DS17 has spent lots of time on campus. It really pays to get those applications in early!
Kbeverina = U of Indiana went well, it is a beautiful campus and he sat in a few classes and went to an honors college presentation, he now knows what dorm he wants.. but will wait until U of Illinois to make a decision.. he does need to finish the u of indiana additional scholarship essays..
FYI, it's Indiana University or IU, not U of II think that's to set it apart from U of Illinois.

CTinct- check out colleges that changes colleges to consider. My oldestson only went to those schools to check them out..
Agnes-
How did your dd make out on her last ACT exam? Maybe you posted but I missed it. I did see that she had a huge improvement on her SAT. Congrats to her! DD did not fare as well on her SAT second go round. She went up quite a bit on her writing, which was already good (now 770) but bombed her math, which was already marginal (now high 500s-ouch!!!). Her verbal was only a ten point difference-forget if it was up or down. She did better on her ACTs, so that's what we will use. Lost her perfect 36 in English, but raised her two lower scores enough to give her a 33 composite vs her prior 32. She got 34 across the board, except for a 28 in math. We were just waiting for these scores before submitting the last of the applications. Gotta get going; we have one or two things due Dec. 1.
Like your dd, she considered applying to a couple Ivies, "just to see", but ultimately decided against it. The problem is there are thousands of qualified applicants who do the same thing. Only so many spaces available. I was shocked to see that every year, there are students with PERFECT scores who are rejected. Plus, after visiting other schools, she decided that she really wants a small college, not a university, although she may end up at our state uni. She would also have the additional hurdle of applying for a waiver of non-custodial info. We've had no contact with her father for years, but it might be tough to get a waiver because he has paid his child support. That said, I think she has decided to apply to a few highly regarded LACs that are known for good financial aid "just to see." We'll still have the non-custodial issue, but if by some miracle she were to get in, these schools are known for fabulous financial aid. (Amherst, Swarthmore, Vassar.) The only one we've visited is Amherst, although it was just a drive around campus, not an official tour. If she gets accepted at any of them, we'll go visit in April. April will be a busy month, as we plan to revisit whatever schools are the top two in the aid dept. What schools is dd considering?
Go Bucks!!!!That's awesome!!!
DD17 got her first acceptance letter today. Stephen F Austin in the middle of nowhere Texas. Still no idea where she's going to go.![]()
Naca-nowhere.![]()
Sometimes I have to be careful about what threads I read over at collegeconfidential kwim? It's kind of like Lake Wobegone where allthe kids are "above-average".

Congrats!
Did you go to OSU? My best friend growing up went there and I had SO much fun when I visited her. She and her husband are my son's godparents and would be so thrilled if he went there, but the out-of-state price tag is a bit high.
