Disneyland 70th speculations and news

With Coco construction starting soon, I doubt they will be able to house PTN floats backstage in DCA.

If I recall correctly, for Pixar Fest, the majority of booths were not on the parade route. They were in Hollywood (outside of Monsters Inc), next to the GRR water wheel, in the alcove next to Carthay Circle, etc. Likely for a variety of reasons, that food festival was a flop.

The Lunar New Year parade is mostly dancers. It has one small float - the one with Mulan & Mushu.

I mean they do the Mulan mini parade and they have booths. At most you'd just move them to make it work or add more of the items to restaurants in park which they do already but could add more items to those places to make space

I mean heck we still have Hollywood so throw some in there and get that place to get some more crowds

Last year they Pixar fest food booths and the Pixar parade at the same time.

They would have to remove the Frozen float and replace it with the Incredibles as they did previously. The same reason they can't do the PTN at Disneyland have the garlands on Main Street the Frozen float is too tall for the trolley cables.

Think about the crowd differences between Pixar or Mulan parades compared to Paint the Night! Mulan I think of as more of a calvalcade with small crowds that you can walk up for a few minutes before. And Pixar was a one and done parade for me as it was cute, but not Paint the Night quality. I just feel like a lot of the area that would be needed for viewing would be lost to festival booths along the walkway from the pier towards Carthay Circle. And then having it at night when the crowds are gathering for WoC would add a lot more madness to that area of the park since it goes right past that location. And the height really has no impact related to the food booths - they could certainly make that part work.

Don't get me wrong - I would love for Disney to have PTN through the holidays. It is my absolute favorite parade ever and I listen to the soundtrack a lot and have seen it 4-5 times since it has been back already. Just not sure how realistic that would be. Afterall when PTN was at DCA a number of years ago it was a limited run from like late April/May to August --- a time with no food festivals taking over half the walkway.

They managed to have PTN during the holiday at least a couple years previously. They aren't doing it because they don't want to do it. Not because it won't work.

I'm glad you've gotten to see it 4-5 times. Some guests haven't and really hoped to see it during the holidays.

I was responding to the people about putting it at DCA and explaining why I did not see it as feasible with the holiday stuff (especially the food booths). I personally would have hoped it would stay at Disneyland for the holidays. I don't care if there no garlands so that the parade could run during the holidays.

And I agree that Disney is doing what they want. I will miss it like I always do. And yes, I am lucky to live locally and get to see the parade a lot, but I can understand others wanting to see it on their vacations too - I did not used to live here.

They should have made it clear when they did the 70th anniversary entertainment offering announcement that it could "pause" during the holidays. I feel really bad for those that made vacation plans for November/December only to have one of the major draws be unavailable.

I agree with this. My extended family planned a trip for this December, but when Paint The Night was announced, I knew I'd need to be there for the summer, just in case it got paused for the holidays

We ended up getting Enchant Keys so we could make multiple trips, but August will be our only PTN viewing, unless it comes back in the spring before our keys expire.

Many thoughts

1) We are lucky we have PTN for as long we we do
2) They should have tried to make it work
3) Since its not working they should have announced this back in May so people could plan
4) Sadly it doesn't matter like most things people complain about with Disney it's mostly online, if you are upset don't go and show them by hurting there wallets

Sure, they call it a "Procession" and it runs four times a day, so it makes sense the crowds are more sparse. Plenty of opportunities to see it.

This thread is making too much of this. If it wasn’t working, they could’ve put the parade on hiatus from after Labor Day until next Spring. People expect Holiday festivities during the Holidays. I’m bummed that the WOC Holiday show isn’t being offered this year. At this point, I think we should assume PTN will return in January.

If Disney is committed to running Starlight year round at WDW. I don’t see why PTN can’t be offered regularly at DLR. Allegedly the concern was the production budget, but Starlight appears to have even more performers. If Disney doesn’t want to perform PTN regularly, why not just have moved it to Florida? When Disney did tours of its Ontario storage facilities, some people snapped pics (a no no) of the PTN floats being tested, which seemingly is part of their regular maintenance. So it costs $$$ to store them…

I saw PTN and Starlight within a week of each other and while I didn't count the number of performers, I'd be shocked if the latter has more than the former! I think PTN has many more, at least between floats.

Select shows, performances, and experiences, including parades and nighttime spectaculars, will temporarily pause to make way for seasonal entertainment offerings, then resume at later dates. Check the Disneyland app or Disneyland.com for entertainment schedules.

We've known that entertainment will be paused for the holidays for quite a while. This is the 3rd or 4th thread where this topic has been discussed and debated. I don't know if people didn't want to believe that it would happen or if they put too much trust in Scott Gustin.

I briefly watched it on YouTube. I skimmed through it but it seemed to have more performers than PTN. I’d watch it again but am holding out until I see it in person.

In the teeny tiny print at the very bottom that no one reads. They should have said it explicitly with the entertainment to be "paused." With the blurb about PtN, it should have said that it WILL be paused from October 27 - January 6 (or whatever dates.

Scott Gustin is nearly always spot on. And while I don't believe anything is set in stone until disney says something. This is the first that Disney has explicitly said PtN will pause. That WoC Happiness will not.

it’s possible that Disney intended on keeping the 70th entertainment through next summer and then made a business decision.

There are some reports that PTN cast members were told that Disney intended on running the production continuously through next summer - but now the cast is being told the parade will be on hiatus until spring (unconfirmed).

Previously, a popular Disneyland blogger claimed that Mickey’s Mix Magic would return after the Holidays and stay through March, when Wondrous Journeys returns.

The current entertainment program is expensive and it could very well be that Disney isn’t getting the attendance and revenues necessary, so they’re making cuts. It sucks but obviously long time Disney fans know that budget cuts is how Disney rolls…

We saw Fantasmic last weekend and there was no pyro (wasn’t because of weather - fireworks went off). On a busy summer evening. Sign of things to come?

These two things would cement my NOT visiting during the 70th, as a February trip was the only time that would fit in my schedule. While bummed, I wasn't planning on a trip until the 75th, since, I went twice last year.
