I didn't see a thread specific to speculation and news for DL 70th birthday celebrations so I thought Id start one. We will be booking the 17th and date around it just in case something special gets planned. I would love to see a cavalcade of rare characters. A girl can dream.

If it's like the 60th there will be a ceremony at the hub with several Disney big shots and celebrities. The crowds will gather for this early.

Other than that, I'd expect some new merchandise but not much more.

We attended 2019 64th birthday and there was good DL Birthday Calvacade, it was our 1st time seeing Jiminy Cricket in the parks. I haven't kept up have they not had any since pre 2020?

I think we will be getting new entertainment for the 70th

1) Either Old parades return or we get new ones
2) WOC will most likely be updated
3) We could see new fireworks or maybe the 50th come back and be updated (add Mickeys runaway railroad and critter country stuff would not be songs from Princess and the Frog)
4) Walt's new show will be coming to Disneyland
5) Either a new show or event at the Fantasyland theater

When would this actually start, the 70th season? We're planning a trip in early to mid-June. I guess we'd be there before this starts but maybe we'd catch some of the decorations for it?

Its hard to know

Could be like Pixar Fest and start in April or earlier or just the summer time to draw people in for that time.

We had APs for the first time during the 60th celebration year. It was so great! We loved all the character costumes and AP days.

I would really like to see Paint the Night come back. I'm not a parade person (besides the Halloween parade, now at OBB) but PTN will make me cry!

Our villa at VGC is now booked! 7/15-7/18 so we will be there for the 70th for sure. May drop the first day but I have 10 months to make that decision. Thought I might have to walk the reservation but it has been pretty open for June/July next year so I didn't end up walking the DVC reservation at VGC.

I’m also booked those days! May also drop one day. I did walk one day since I’m new to VGC DVC and wasn’t sure how those days would play out.

I think the nights of the 16th and 17th would be the harder ones to get. So starting a couple days before, I figured I would be ok. I am local so I can work on the 15th and then go over after work in the afternoon or I can go the morning of the 16th and drop the 15th. I will decide when we get around late May/early June if I want to drop the extra day on the front.

I've been an outspoken opponent of walking on these boards, but I have to admit I walked this one a little bit.

It was my first booking at VGC, a small resort, I wasn't sure what the demand would be, and I was curious to see what walking would be like.

I'll just say that I found it to be a giant pain in the butt, and I very seriously doubt I will ever do it again! I think DVC would become a pretty crappy product for me if I had to do that for every reservation.

I *think* I walked it. Actually not 100% sure. Things like that always confuse me. I dont think I would've needed to walk but wanted to test out how to do it. Again not sure I even did it, haha! I booked one more day in advance of what I needed, then dropped that day the next day.

Same here, wanted to test it out. I think I went about a week before the actual dates I wanted.

Not much fun, IMO.

I am not big on the idea of walking myself. And have only done it a couple times for something I knew would be a difficult reservation (50th at WDW was one). I was monitoring how things were looking for VGC especially know that it should be starting refurb soon and I was concerned there may not be as many rooms as normal. I booked today and have the extra day on the front that I may or may not keep, but that is a decision for many months from now.
