OK, well I'm finally back after a weekend in the Poconos and celebrating my 36th birthday yesterday! So sorry for the delay.
Captain Cook's Breakfast.
I got one adult breakfast platter and one adult Mickey waffle. Both came with two drinks each so I got an orange juice, a Nesquik and two Smart Waters to take to Epcot with us. These two meals were shared between myself and my kids. DH doesn't particularly care for breakfast most of the time. It was more than enough for the three of us.
My parents flew in on this morning for the last 6 days of our vacation. We met them at Epcot and had a lunch reservation at Coral Reef for 11:45 because I knew my mom and dad would be hungry since their flight was super early.
On the DxDP, our server explained that we could have either a soft drink, coffee, tea or a smoothie. DH ordered a strawberry smoothie as did the kids, I had iced tea and my parents had coffee (but it wasn't very good). They switched to iced tea.
DH and I shared the Land and Sea appetizer for two. I was a bit disappointed in this. The crab cakes were so tiny - about the size of a half dollar. The shrimp were ok as was the beef and the losbter bisque was just not good. Very heavy brandy flavor an very little lobster meat. I mean, the "lobster meat" was close to non existent. You would think a seafood place would make sure to have their lobster bisque up to par, but sadly, it was not. The only standout on this appetizer plate was the polenta.
The bread was ok.
The bisque.
My parents both had the mixed greens and golden beet salad with goat cheese. This looked really good and I wish I had ordered that.
Now on to the entrees.
DS had pizza - and I think this was the only other deviation from chicken that the kid had during the whole trip.
DD had the kids salmon with rice. I wish they had served it with some sort of veggie.
My dad had the salmon. He said it was very good and he cleaned his plate, so I guess he enjoyed the meal!
My mom, DH and I had the mahi mahi. It was ok. The rice was good as was the sauce, but the small shrimp weren't deveined

confused

and it had hearts of palm, which I don't care for.
Dessert was the best part of the meal. The kids both had the make your own sundae.
I had the creme brulee which was really good! The sugar crust was excellent and didn't have any burnt taste at all. The butterscotch was not overpowering and it complemented the smooth and creamy custard very nicely. The little biscotti on top was a nice touch.
DH had the chocolate wave and it was awesome! The cake was moist and rich and not overly sweet. Also, I'm pleased to report that the decorative Mickey balloon is now made of white chocolate instead of that awful rock-hard sugar!
My mom and dad both had the almond gelato and said it was a nice, light and refreshing way to end the meal.
Overall, Coral Reef was ok and we won't be rushing back there anytime soon. The service was very good but the food was a bit disappointing. The entire meal for my family of 4 was $140, but since we were on the DxDP it was 4 credits, so it was a good value for the credits used.
More to come!
