DAS changes coming WDW May 20/ DL June 18, 2024

The thought that people are so desperate for DAS, they’re willing to say anything to get it, like playing up an old diagnosis that doesn’t even affect you being in line would be so cringe. :sad2:

I’m glad you didn’t do it.
As long as the disability is not a concern at the present then your point is valid.
Some people have disabilities/diagnosis that are uncurable and will be with them for a lifetime regardless when it was originally diagnosed. Just a point to consider

Of course. But still only relevant if it affects the ability to wait in line.

Extremely stressed out for my phone call Tuesday next week (30 day mark), also an adult who doesn't have a DD, but has been approved for the past 7 years. I was approved at Universal and Canada's Wonderland this year, so fingers crossed Disney sees it the same way. Next year I plan to remove a day of Disney from 3 to 2 days, and give 1 day to Universal instead going from 1 to 2. Usually do 4 days of parks when I travel to Orlando for a week once a year.

I will update next week on my results. I'll give more details then (I'll try to be as open/specific as possible without giving too much away for scammers).

On a side note, condition has been in overdrive as I get closer a closer to my July 16 video call because it gets exacerbated when under heavy stress. 😵‍💫 That's the real issue, more than the actual new rules themselves, it's the stress they've put the entire disabled community under planning their trips (some of which have been heavily invested into way before the news was announced in April). It's taken a lot of the fun away from people; the inconsistency of approvals, the unknown when purchasing tickets beforehand. At both Universal and CW, I was approved before even getting passes for those parks, if I hadn't been approved, it would give me the customer the CHOICE to decide if I want to still go to their parks knowing I would have to adapt to their new rules. They left a lot of people stuck in a miserable situation where they either had to refund tickets or go in a modified fashion (overcommitted to vacation due to hotel/plane/car etc) and will see a drastically reduced experience from the past. Regardless, it makes for a lot of unhappy customers. It would have been more appropriate to have grandfathered in some guests as they roll in the new system (as one person commented they received some LL passes due to the wait and adjustment), hopefully if people are being denied, that they are giving something like RTQ (old DAS method pre-app) to make up for the change to get people getting used to the idea that next trips will be vastly different than current ones or ones in the past.
How did you get preapproval for CW? I’m told that all Cesar Fair parks require you to do your visit onsite when you get to the park. I can’t find any way to get approval prior to visiting? It would be super helpful to have my daughter approved before getting on property.

I reached out a while back but have been so involved with family I've completely forgot about my vacation.

Last month we had a death in the family and rescheduled our trip from June to next week. I've been so involved with the family and getting over my grief since I've struggled moving forward. However I think a trip is just what I need to see some sunshine or at least I hope.

Prior to everything I was able to get das and have found it on our app while making new reservations. I talked to my travel agent who reached out to Disney and they said it would transfer with the tickets to the new dates. Today I'm starting to do my research and planning and noticed it is no longer on the app. I am mentally not ready to call and go through the process again. I've seen so many negative stories I'm worried. I thought I'd come here to see what you would do since these boards have helped me throughout the years. I'm just a mess and I don't know how I'd react via the video chat. Should I start there? Can my travel agent help? I just don't know what to do....

I guess what would you do?

I reached out to their email for ride accommodations because I know I would be a special case that wasn't in their basic description, so I planned ahead

Now take it with a grain of salt that was for CW specifically, other Cedar Fair parks may not choose to pre-approve

You are correct - you need to reapply. I would read this thread and see examples of what the CMs are asking on the call so you are prepared, and then call and just be honest with your answers. ❤️ Good luck!

Sorry for your loss
DAS is not usually visible in the app unless you recently completed a trip or have an active AP. So I'm not sure what you saw when making the new reservations.

However, assuming your prior DAS approval was done in May (for a June trip) it would have only been good for 30 days. Unfortunately I think your TA was misinformed about DAS transferring with the tickets to new dates outside that window. More than likely you will need to do the pre-registration again.

Ok I was afraid of that.... I'll look things over. Thank you so much. It's been such a tough past month emotionally. I'll try to look back and see what the questions are.

YET.

The comment I knew was coming ^^^. I had my first surgery in 2019. Never used the DAS because I am tough as nails and felt it was unjust, and I just dealt with the issues. Second surgery in 2021. Huge difference in my mobility, issues, etc etc etc. After pressure from pretty much everyone, I applied for DAS. And wow what a difference. RELIEF.

Let me be very clear, I will do what I need to do to acquire access to DAS, as according to the ADA I have a physically disability. How cruel and unfair it is to identify ONLY autism as favoritism to DAS. Some of us have real disabilities (not saying Autism isn't, I am referring to the mass amount of people who have fully lied to get the DAS. Disgusting.). Both mental and physical disabilities deserve their recognition.

Whatever. ☮️OUT.

This is what I've seen. It seems highly unlikely that someone with physical disabilities only will be approved. People probably need to stop stating that this is needs based only & diagnosis has nothing to do with it. It's clear they are limiting it to the needs of those with specific diagnoses.
There were definitely physical approved but doesn’t seem so recently… Ugg, while we’re all hoping for some changes maybe something did change, just the wrong way 🤦🏻‍♀️

Pretty disgusting.

These posts here, and the thread you started on the theme parks board about Genie + really come across as entitled. But, you do you. It seems clear that you’re angry, bitter and don’t care.

Your TA will not be of help for DAS.

The best thing I did for my anxiety on DAS calls was make a DAS-less plan before I called. That way if the worst happened and I was denied I already had a plan to go forward (for me this was budgeting for G+/ILLs but I know that’s not the solution for everyone).

I have ADD (was diagnosed in 1988 if you can believe that!) but never thought to add that to the list of issues, as it doesn't affect me being in line.
Honestly, I think you'd have just as hard a time getting approved for ADHD. A "list of issues" is probably not the best way to approach your request. Brainstorm a bit -- what about the queue environment exacerbates your issue(s). Focus on that and be specific, don't list a whole bunch of symptoms that have little or nothing to do with the actual queue. If something outside of a queue affects you similarly, how to deal with it? How to you mitigate it in daily life?

Give the new accommodations a try. If it absolutely doesn't work, make notes of the the where/when/why/how of your attempts. Then reconnect and discuss it. No guarantee that will work, but worth a try.

The DISboards does not condone circumventing Disney's rules. There are other accommodations; not every disability qualifies for DAS any longer.

But then you are part of the problem. Lying to get what you want because you don’t like the new accommodations that have been provided by Disney…. How is this different than people lying previously to get DAS?

We were discussing DAS approval specifically.
I was responding to the sentiments expressed in this post and elsewhere. It is not “cruel and unfair” to identify ONLY autism as favoritism to DAS. The old system was unsustainable. Disney is trying to figure out how best to accommodate all guests.

It’s difficult for people to think they may be part of the problem. Human nature I guess. Like people who may continually try to reapply for DAS, then complain about the wait times to get through.
