DAS changes coming WDW May 20/ DL June 18, 2024

Technically Peter Pan says you must be ambulatory whereas an attraction like it's a small world states you must transfer to a wheelchair. In all honesty if the PP is primarily of the physical nature an attraction like Peter Pan is going to be difficult regardless due to the attraction requirements itself. Sure, a CM could tell someone they need to use a wheelchair but you then have to be able to operate the wheelchair and get in and out of it, per the attraction stating you need to be ambulatory, if you are unable to do that on your own a return time is not going to be the solution.

Good point, though PP said s/he could walk with a cane and stand, but not for >45 min. So a return time probably would have helped them in a way that someone who just can’t navigate without a wheelchair wouldn’t benefit from as the LL wait is much MUCH shorter these days.

Eta finished my idea - I really shouldn’t post in the middle of the night. 😬

Was this for a specific ride? I know each ride has their own process. They should have had some kind of option to help you with the wheelchair, though, since you were alone! Did you speak to someone in Guest Services about it and ask what the protocol should be for a solo traveler?

We were there at the end of June and used the return to queue option- it was just my husband and I. Depending on the ride, and sometimes which CM he spoke to, he would be asked to try and wait in the line first. One thing we complained about (nicely to the CMs at the ride, but also afterwards in an email to Guest Services) was the lack of CMs who are actually IN the queue when you are waiting. So if an issue DOES arise, you are actually unable to "escape" the line the way things are right now.

I would recommend you do this as well- they need to know when there is a breakdown in the process so they can (hopefully) improve things for the future. You should have been given an option that worked for you somehow!
PP ride. I did request a return time and was told “not available “.

Right but we're going off if the primary issue is physical Disney already has a process for that which a return time is not that. Plenty of visitors go to Disney who use a cane or choose to use one to aid, solo or not and unfortunately this is for an attraction that requires a certain qualifications such that it may not be appropriate for every person and every situation. Basically a denial of a return time for Peter Pan does not automatically mean the CM did something wrong given the previous poster's scenario.

There's several rides I rarely do because of being unable to manage a lengthy queue walk. Peter pan, pirates, pooh come to mind. I have lightening laned them and I only had an issue with pirates as the queue was tough for me. As a solo person I've been given the suggestion to borrow a regular wheelchair which they can provide but they can't provide a pusher. The way I see it is simple: there's some experiences that I have to decide to put off until there's a shorter wait, do it at a less busy time, get a lightning lane, use the manual wheel chair etc. But either way I don't view my mobility issues as something any cast member is responsible to provide me with beyond reasonable accommodations. ESPECIALLY when it's clearly posted that an ecv in the line isn't allowed.

Peter Pan could be completely doable with a return time and not doable for someone without one, DH comes to mind as an example. He would need the ability to easily escape, he also has difficulty pushing an empty wheelchair, but he could manage standing/walking long enough for the lighting lane return area.

My neurodivergent son was just denied, but my husband called and did not remember to include all of our concerns. Am I able to request a new interview so that I can include everything that wasn't mentioned?

Have they become more strict on approvals recently? I’ve read in a Facebook group about a ton of people getting denied recently that have been previously approved under the new rules.

My brother was approved for our trip this past January, and I’m already thinking ahead to our December trip. Did they announce new guidelines since January that I missed?

Nothing new since last summer. However yes there have been reports even since last fall that folks previously approved under the new system have been denied. Being approved once does not seem to be a guarantee of future approval.
