Attack of the Lakeshore Lodge

Let's talk the Lazy River - can anyone give me a sense based on the pictures how big this is going to be? Like, how does it compare to the one at the Hilton Orlando size wise? I can't tel at all.

I posted this awhile back, but I went down the rabbit hole sometime over the summer measuring the lazy river in one of the stormwater permits since those are at scale and I got ~633 feet for the full loop, which compares to ~244 feet for the Stormalong Bay lazy river and ~698 feet for the Four Seasons, just for context. I just Google Earth'd the Hilton Orlando and it's ~673 ft. (Although both the Four Seasons and Hilton are more "interesting" lazy river shapes, IMO.) All should be considered approximate as the stormwater permits had a few slightly different versions of the pool and lazy river along the way and you can measure 100 times and get slightly different results depending on your exact click location.

According to Google, Aulani's lazy river is nearly 900 ft long, so this will be only about 2/3rd of the Aulani one. That is a bummer. I really enjoy the Aulani one and was hoping for similar.
I also had high hopes it would rival Aulani. Darn. Upside is more reasons to keep looking forward to going back to Aulani every year.

Aulani does not have a pile of theme parks right there as the reason people are there in the first place. That should help.
Good point. At ~900 keys, LSL could have maximum occupancy north of 5,000 people, depending on hotel/studio split versus larger villas. Average number of guests would naturally be less… maybe around 4,000.

How many people will be in the main pool at any given time, rather than being in-room, eating, at a theme park, or at Disney Springs? 500?

Main thing is they’d want to wristband it for guests of LSL, like Stormalong Bay does.

Given the more "remote location" than monorail resorts, id say that people including myself, would be interested in resort stays here with lazy river

My prediction is LSL will not be a high demand reservation after the new hotness factor wears off for the following reasons:

- It's not a monorail resort
- It's not walkable to any park (e.g. crescent lake resorts)
- No super convenient on demand transportation to a theme park (e.g. Riviera and the Gondola system to Epcot).
- There probably will not be a good theme park view from any room.

I don't think an awesome lazy river is actually enough to make this a destination resort, for the same reason I don't think everyone would love BCV/Stormalong Bay the same way if it was not walkable to Epcot.

I plan to self-fulfill my prophecy by convincing the rest of you that LSL is a waste of points, and then I will book stays at LSL all the time.

If it has an awesome pool and great food im in. Im hoping it will be like an animal kingdom in that regard. Remote but has good things going for it. Ofc cant compare to the beautiful animals.

The theme itself i feel is overdone and I cant imagine would be as charming as wl and grand california.

I agree that people may not choose it as their first resort, but i love a new resort!

It’s not walkable to MK nor “on the Monorail,” but that boat transportation is really underrated as a WL perk. 10 minutes of serene gliding over the water and you’re at MK with a tiny little private security line. Okay probably closer to 12-15 for LSL, but still.

Boat, and not the crowded loud giant ferry either, could be the most magical way to arrive at MK.

I didn't realize it had it's own private security line. I really like that.

The boats were a little challenging during Christmas time. The wind kept blowing them away and the CM's were having a bit of trouble parking them 🤣 With that being said, I do think its the most magical mode of transportation too! I'll never forget the first time I went to MK on the boat and saw Cinderella's castle in the distance! Im glad we happened to choose that mode of transportation!

I suppose it’s technically a downside because when monorail and big ferry guests arrive at MK, they don’t need to go through security again because they already did at TTC. So it’s not as simple as walking off the boat to the touch points.

But yes, there’s separate security awnings for the west dock (GF, Poly) / GF walkway, the central dock (WL, Fort?), the bus security, and the Contemporary walkway security. Minor difference overall but I’d rather go through smaller security after the boat ride (like before a resort monorail) than a main security line like TTC or MK buses.
