Here is my latest thought on the CR rumors.
I'm guessing
DVC really would like that property. They probably have talked about it. They've probably done some preliminary work to pitch it to Corporate - and have ideas on what it would look like and how much it would cost.
I'm guessing Disney hasn't made any committment to DVC. They could tear down the CR wings a do a LOT of things there that wouldn't be DVC. Some of them might be more profitable than DVC (although DVC has been very profitable). For instance, they could make non DVC "family suites" that would sleep six with no kitchen - somewhere for bigger families that is not DVC or the Ft Wilderness cabins - similar to the big rooms at WL or the HIFS.
They could create an "adults wing" at the CR (though other resorts might be better suited) where they don't book kids - with its own kid free restaurant and pool. I'd have thought this was a farfetched idea - until I went on
DCL and saw how successful Disney had been in creating kids free areas on a cruise that caters to families with children.
They could not build hotel rooms and put in some more shops/restaurants/nighclubs - ala the Boardwalk. They could put in some sort of evening family entertainment - an all ages comedy club, a family nightclub. Or some sort of other "attraction."
Until DVC actually breaks ground and starts selling points, Disney could decide to do something else with that property. So even an announcement may not mean that they won't change their minds. Disney spends a lot of time and energy drawing up plans for things that don't end up getting greenlighted.
