Are price increases and CR rumors connected?

Hmmmm.
If resales are being handled differently, and folks are speculating that SSR prices could go up soon, and folks are speculating about the west garden wing of CR coming down, could these events be connected?

They are related in that they all have to do with DVC. ;)

Beyond that, you list one fact (change in add-on process) and two rumors--one of which (CR) is really, really old.

Just my opinion:

...on SSR price: I don't see it going up now. They're offering a fairly nice incentive to buy now...mostly because the points can't even be used until 2005. I can't see them jacking-up the price and then having to tell people "thanks for buying--enjoy your first trip Home...in 6 to 8 months."

They offered a similar pre-opening incentive for SSR earlier this year. The price was then raised a few weeks before the resort opened. Perhaps they'll do the same thing--raising the price again a few weeks before new buildings start to open in '05.

...on the Contemporary: Although the rumor has been getting a lot of pub lately, I doubt it's going to materialize in the very near future. If you read the latest rumors, even they mention a 2006-07 timeframe. Given that 6 more buildings were committed to SSR back in May (bringing the total to 18), I suspect they'll want to sell as much of SSR as possible before announcing a CR project--again assuming it will even happen. If they do decide to build at CR, it could really kill sales at SSR as people may decide to wait for CR. So any announcement will have to be very carefully timed.

Here is my latest thought on the CR rumors.

I'm guessing DVC really would like that property. They probably have talked about it. They've probably done some preliminary work to pitch it to Corporate - and have ideas on what it would look like and how much it would cost.

I'm guessing Disney hasn't made any committment to DVC. They could tear down the CR wings a do a LOT of things there that wouldn't be DVC. Some of them might be more profitable than DVC (although DVC has been very profitable). For instance, they could make non DVC "family suites" that would sleep six with no kitchen - somewhere for bigger families that is not DVC or the Ft Wilderness cabins - similar to the big rooms at WL or the HIFS.

They could create an "adults wing" at the CR (though other resorts might be better suited) where they don't book kids - with its own kid free restaurant and pool. I'd have thought this was a farfetched idea - until I went on DCL and saw how successful Disney had been in creating kids free areas on a cruise that caters to families with children.

They could not build hotel rooms and put in some more shops/restaurants/nighclubs - ala the Boardwalk. They could put in some sort of evening family entertainment - an all ages comedy club, a family nightclub. Or some sort of other "attraction."

Until DVC actually breaks ground and starts selling points, Disney could decide to do something else with that property. So even an announcement may not mean that they won't change their minds. Disney spends a lot of time and energy drawing up plans for things that don't end up getting greenlighted.

In reality probably not!

Unlikely to be related, even if CR ever happens, which I'm inclined to doubt.

why do you think a Contemporary villas is unlikely??
As I said in response to your email, I think DVC is about done by the time SSR is finished. I hope I'm wrong and that it happens, I'm just having trouble seeing it. But I've been wrong before so we'll see.

I think the only connection is that the price difference was too much between SSR and the sold out resorts and Disney is trying to narrow the gap so they can keep selling SSR and not keep getting barraged with requests for the sold out resorts. With the price close, the 12 year difference now has more meaning IMHO. But this is just a guess as is everything else.
