ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

We stayed at the Poly last june and we had two different rooms in Tahitti that had some issues with the sliding doors, they were very hard to open. The second room matinance was able to repair but it took several hours, not just a quick fix. It seems that it was a wear and tear issue that required some widespread matinance. Has there been any widespread matinance done to the rooms latley? Just wondering.

Tokelau is a great location to be between GCH and TTC esp if you plan on going to Epcot quite often. Honestly, there is no bad location at Poly. You can walk from one end of the resort to the other in 5-7 minutes....oh....and the walk is so beautiful. The tropical flowers and foliage lining the paths dotted with tiki torches just puts you in a different frame of mind. I always stop and take pictures of the tropical blooms:cloud9: The best is evenings when the tiki torches are lit and you can hear the soft music from the luau combined with a little hint of smoke from Ohana's open flame grilling. Purely magical. And I almost forget looking over the lagoon at the castle changing colors and the boat horns on the lagoon....can you tell I love the Poly:rotfl2:

Is Poly bigger than POFQ ? It sounds like a very nice place to stay

All of your posts are making me so excited! We booked our first stay at the Poly for November 2012 (enough time to save some more for the trip). Today I showed the kids pictures from this thread and they are over the moon! DH had to remind them that aside from the resort we're also going to be at all the parks!!!:lmao:

We have an upcoming reservation for a theme park view at the Poly. We had requested Tuvalu, but now we are having some reservations about the noise coming from Luau Cove as our young son is a light sleeper. I have checked Tikiman's website, but I need more input as there appear to be some concerns about the maintenance at Tahiti. If you had to chose between these two longhouses, which one would you choose and why? Thanks.

Congrats on your booking! If your family is like ours, the resort is a HUGE part of our vacation. We are not park commandos and enjoy spending lots of time relaxing at the resort. Poly is so awesome as it is a tropical vacation within a Disney vacation. We may never get to Hawaii or any Polynesian isle given the airfare cost and the actual flight duration so Poly is the closest we may ever experience;)

I can't speak to the sliders persay but I do recall reports of some soft rehab last year thru the longhouses.

Regarding noise from luau cove, I personally do not think it is an issue. We stayed in Aotearoa which is closer to the luau. I very much enjoyed hearing the music on the balcony but with the slider closed it was silent. I would, however, highly suggest bringing a noise machine/fan to drown out the typical hotel noises if your son is a light sleeper. We take one everywhere we go because I hate hearing other guests being rude in the hallways or the constant door slamming at all hours of the night. You never know if you will have considerate neighbors or freaks so plan for the freaks and be suprised if they are normal;)

I would prefer Tahiti because of the larger rooms and the nice deserted beach--BUT--if you are concerned about noise, the Tahiti longhouse will get more horn noise as it is closer to the TTC ferry. Both Tahiti and Tuvalu will catch wind of the Poly/GF boat horns at the Poly boat doc. Again, bring a noise machine for sleeping peace.

Since I will be flying, I have to improvise, I have heard others say to use the radio in the room, set it off of a station for the white noise static.

After reading 28 pages in this thread I am even more excited as we get closer to our trip next month!!! We will be transferring from the cbr and I know that the cbr will transfer our luggage to the poly, but I was wondering what to do with our laptops...should we bring then with us on the bus and go directly to the poly upon checkout of the cbr and check in at the poly and have them put the laptops someplace secure until our room is ready?

I'm quite pleased to be requesting Tahiti even with the horn noise: somehow the sounds of the boats mean "vacation" to me. First, we live in the country, so quiet and crickets are SOP at home. Secondly, my first adult stay at WDW was at the Boardwalk, and the sounds of the boats and of the people having fun along the Boardwalk made our room feel like a haven just outside the party.

Soooo I'm looking forward to my tropical paradise and boat horns this October! :cloud9:

We were in Tahiti LV in Sept. and had no issues with maintenance at all. The room was beautifully kept and we were lucky enough to have a first floor room which opened right onto the beach. It was quiet with the exception of a ferry boat horn in the distance when you had the patio door open, but like the others have said it helped add to the vacation tropical Poly feel. We loved having the 2 sinks and large rooms as well. I actually am having doubts about switching from LV Tahiti to Hawaii CL.

Wanted to see my ticker and so now I wait....popcorn::....dreaming of a Lapu Lapu :rolleyes1

Just wanted to see my ticker.. Oh how I wish time would fly.. then stop when we are there..LOL

We also fly to WDW and bring our sound machine in our carry-on. It isn't very large. It is a Sleepmate model 980A. Check it out. We use one at home every night and have a seperate one for vacation. Sometimes TSA plugs it in to make sure it isn't a bomb:rotfl2:...along with DD's nubulizer and DH's CPAP. Oh yeah....nobody likes to be in line behind us!

Just posting to see my wait time. POLY CL, wait for me! I'm coming!

This might sound like a strange question, but has anyone actually used the daybed for a bed? :confused3 Was is comfortable or not worth it? :confused3
