Good Morning - Up early when the alarm, that I normally ignore for at least 1/2 hour and the wind took on the same loud hum. We lost power once already, but back up, for now. We are not expecting anything but wind and rain, and we wish our fellow Floridans the best as the storm passes....

Wish we could send the rain where it is needed...

Good Morning All - My older dog doesn't mind storms but little Sam huddles in the basement shaking.

:flower: Good morning cruisers! :flower:

Happy Tuesday!

Sending our good wishes to our friends in Florida and Texas since it looks like that is who Rita has her sights set on.

Good morning all!

Prayers for everyone in the path of Rita. Got an email from my best friend yesterday. She lives (lived) in Metairie and worked at the foot of Canal Street in New Orleans. She's been temporarily relocated to Houston by her company. This is what she wrote yesterday. "There is another hurricane. Possible land fall could be Houston this weekend. Can't take much more. Don't know how they handled this crap in Florida." I'm sure a lot of evacuees in TX will be very stressed over Rita.

Good morning to all. I lost my internet satellite connection just after my last post last night. It was back up before bed, but I was too tired to log back on. My thoughts are with all of the people in Rita's path.

So is Rita a hurricane now? Last advisory I see says they were still determining that. Of course, it's headed over the Gulf, not a good thing.

We've been having connection problems too, Sue. Seems to be working OK today.

Rita is now a cat 1 hurricane and is expected to become at cat 3 in the open waters of the Gulf.

My cruising sister, CodyJ, has liked meeting with my DIS friends. She is really looking forward to tinksdad visiting in a few weeks.

The October trip to your stomping grounds is right around the corner. Are you trying to scare her or convince her to come on a cruise???? :confused3

We need a restaurant with good crab cakes, got something in mind?

BTW, what is a Longaberger basket???

What is a Longaberger basket? Are you serious? They are like *THE* basket to have...well, if you are into that type of thing. I have a few (mostly b/c I was invited to a party and had to buy *something* but typically they are a little more expensive than I care to spend on a basket.)

Here is a picture of their home office in Newark, Ohio....

Yes, this is a 7 story basket/office building. 180,000 square feet!

It is 160 times larger than their medium market basket (pictured on right)

Btw, the medium market basket is 15"l x 10"w x 7 1/2"h and sells for $69 :earseek:

The smaller basket is: 7 3/4 in. x 5 1/2 in. x 4 1/2 in. (think smaller than a 6x8 Shutters picture) and sells for $44!!

Schools are cancelled on our edge of Houston on the bay and 20 miles from Galveston) for the rest of the week. I cancelled the classes which I have control over and still waiting to hear from a supervisor on the others - I have a feeling since she lives on the other side of town, further inland, it'll be a wait and see attitude. Even though the track looks like it'll hit Corpus Christi, putting the center 4 hours away - my only indecision is deciding how far to run...given there is only 1 major road north and 1 west - I'd rather start early than decide at the last minute.

John will have to stay here for work, they'll decide this afternoon if procedures will be in place - they will be evacuated to the other side of the city...Do I stay here with him or do I run far away... If only WDW was closer...5 days off of school - and I want to try to keep things as stress free as possible for the kids...

Can you tell this is my 1st experience in 10 years of living in Houston with a hurricane - we were out of the country when TS Alicia came stay in 2001. Can you tell I'm slightly stressed???!!!!

And on a somewhat serious and slightly amusing note -

There's a hurricane heading toward you...You need to evacuate...You can only take what will fit into a Beetle convertible ...So, including yourself and 2 kids...what else do you take??

Kinda sounds like a "stranded on a desert island with one item" question...:rotfl2:

Medical records, financial records, a few changes of clothes...Guess you learn quickly what is important in your life and what you can't absolutely live without...

Rightly so!!
I think EVERYONE is taking these storms a lot more seriously now than pre-Katrina.

I have two older sons in the Houston area. Need to call and see what they are planning. DD and I are going down there in a couple of weeks to visit. God bless to all and take care!!! :lovestruc
