Wk Of Oct 14 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Just a quick drive by - since I am still at work and I actually have work to do today. I did my 5k run on Saturday and posted a race report with pictures on the race report thread. I was a little sore from that - for the first time since I started running my quads are bothering me - for once its not my calves!! LOL So yesterday I knew I had to get 7 miles in and I had to go to a morning gymnastics comp for my niece. I ended up getting on the TM around 7:30PM and just walked most of the 7 miles - at around 6 miles I started running and I could feel it in my lower legs but it didn't feel too bad and I could keep going. I really don't mind training on the TM (I actually might be kinda wierd - wait didn't I just say in another post that I am normal - at least I think I am normal!! LOL) I see most people dread the TM - to me I enjoy the long walks/runs on the TM because I pop in a DVD and I just go - I actually end up paying better attention to the movie then if I watch it on the couch!!! We are starting to get better weather down here so hopefully soon I can get outside and get those miles in)

So only 12 more days till TOT and :scared1: at the distance!! I am hoping that I won't be too tired the days after - I want to be able to enjoy WDW - but I know it won't be a busy busy trip - I am planning on taking it easy the 2 days after.

Today I have stretch & strength and tomorrow is a 5 mile run.

Hey there. Please bear with me as I adjust. I'm going to do my best to stay up to date on this thread but I will be adjusting to my new schedule with waking at 4:15am when I won't be getting to bed until about 10pm.
 :scared:

I have a double ear infection right now. I don't even want to go to the Dr. because I already know what he will say. Blah!! And then they give me some stupid drops that don't do crap. My body eventually fights it off and I'm fine for the next couple to three weeks and its back. :confused3 :sad1: I hate it.

I'm soooooo glad we don't observe daylight saving time here. I haven't had to worry about that in over 13 years. I guess thats not entirely true I did live in Florida from Sept to Dec of 05 and probably had to change times then. LOL But I didn't work or do anything so it wasn't much of a issue.

ZM Melissa - OMG! That's a killer schedule!!!! :scared1:

Just back from my 50 min. I didn't feel great, but it was cool, although muggy, and I wanted to see what I can do. I had an 11:05 mpm pace. It's the best I've done sicne May. SAdly, I was almost a minute faster n May before my booty/nreve pain issue. SUch mixed emotions. Great to do better, but so slow from where I was. (I know, that's fast for many adn I shoudl just be pleased that I can get out there and do that). Oh well. That will be all teh hard trunning until teh Detroit half on Sunday. Yay for a Mini WISH meet!!!

You're my hero girl!:thumbsup2

I will try to catch up later today!
Did a SR of 4.4 on the trails at lunch. I am trying to keep it nice and slow b/c I have a 20 miler on Friday.
Time: 40:35, Pace: 9.13, but I know the 1st mile was 8:30. Took JRT with me and on the way back, she had to smell and pee on everything!:sad2:

My feeling about the 20 miler!
1. I am really excited about it. I mapped out a course Saturday night. It includes the 1st 18 miles of the CHarlotte Marathon that I am training for. I will have to carry directions with me and hope not to get lost. The reason it only has 18 mile of the marathon course is b/c I will have to run 1 mile to get to the "starting" point and 1 mile back. This is b/c of where I am planning to park.
2. I am really worried! This run is going to show me what I can expect time wise for the marathon. Unless I have acid reflux or something unexpected happens. Isn't it funny that I am worried about a 20 mile training run? I guess it is really no big deal. My goal is to tri for 9 MPM the whole way.:wizard:

It is weird, but once I'm in rhythm on the thing I fall into a trance and keep going. Plus being on it for a while, then having others join me, then still being on it when they leave allows me to feel completely superior in every way. Or perhaps just dumber.

The most I have done on the 1/10th miles track is 6 miles...no change in direction. I also get into a trance and zone out. It seems to pass by so much more quickly than one would think!!! Also...there's an older guy who is running there every time I go. I'm sure he's training for a marathon. He's there when I get there and there when I leave. I've paced him and he's pretty speedy!! He seems to know what he's doing...so as long as I take it easy, I'll still do my long runs there. I'll just leave the speed work to the TM.

Just got back from the track. 5 miles in exactly one hour! :thumbsup2
I was tired and coughing still, but I got 'em done.

I was reading here about the toe socks (Terri maybe?). I got curious and looked them up online. Then I found an REI just a little out of my way on the drive home today and bought a pair. I also stopped at CVS and bought the gel toe thingies my mom swears by for her toe pain. So, I wore the little gel toe thingies on my second toes. And I wore the toe socks. I have no idea if they helped my toe issue - we'll see if I have any pain tomorrow. But they did not bother me, other than taking longer to get dressed to workout! ;) I can't even wear flip flops because I hate having something between my toes - I can't believe these socks didn't bother me.

I also went out and bought Chad a nicer pirate costume for MNSSHP. It is actually from the same line my wench costume is, so we will match now. They also have a kid's costume that matches. I probably will have to return Zack's Gymbo pirate costume and get the other one. I am weird about matching.

Gotta get a shower & get ready for work tomorrow.
3am alarm comes WAY too early!

Well as the evil panda sucked me in a few threads back, I'll just pop in here too - work is a bit manic so attendance has been poor.

Well all is good here, managing to get the miles in - although I'm sure someone is trying to tell me something. In the last two weeks I've put my back out, cured that then my knee went out on Saturday's run clicked that back in - and now my blooming PF is back!!!! Worst thing about that is, it was doing a 5km walk to raise money for charity that aggravated it - worked out I can run for miles with no problems, but walking really upsets it. Looking on the bright side though, it's almost 80 degrees outside today and sitting with my feet on an ice pack is lovely!!!

Will do my 5k tomorrow and hopefully it'll be okay. Pixie dust please, I don't think I can find another 4 months off for it to heal again - unless I get Hiro like abilities - forget saving the cheerleader, lets work on my feet! So Mel, how much nurofen can you take each day before you get a minor gastric issue?

Did anyone else have a '3 months' moment at the weekend - I was out Saturday night and realised that (because of the time difference) that I was going to be 3.30 into the marathon at that exact moment - I'm guessing that's somewhere round the back of Animal Kingdom - that means meeting EYEORE -hoorah!!!!!

So that's it for me, happy training everyone. Helen

Me and the TM are NOT getting along lately. My last 3 runs, including tonight, I've pulled the goofy safety cord thingy while trying to get to my towel. :headache: Sooo...no clue on distance or pace, but I got in about 42 minutes.

Helen...max dose is 3200 mg/day (usually taken 800 mg 4 times daily). Try not to drink any alcohol while taking it...can increase risk of tummy problems. And take it with food. I wouldn't take the max dose for more than a week or so. Some people are really sensitive and can't take high doses before their tummy rebels...some folks can take buckets of the stuff with no apparent problems.

Jen...sorry...that was just 12 miles I did on Sat. I have either 13 or 14 on tap for this coming weekend, depending on which training plan I'm using.

Carrie...great pace! Glad to see you hangin' around here more :)

Kristi...great pace, especially when you're not feeling well!

Anne...where are you, dude?

things have been pretty stressful around here lately, so I took a couple days off for mental health reasons. I could get used to this not working thing, though I'm not sure the mortgage or student loan companies would appreciate it

Hey guys! Geez, I feel like it's been AGES. Unfortunately life (specifically work) has completely taken over lately and I'm just having such a hard time trying to keep up with all the different pots I have spoons in :( I am still cheering everyone on from my desk over here in this dark little corner, and getting in my runs where I can - a little over 7 miles tonight, might have been longer but I got caught out after dark (yet again).

I'm also SUPER EXCITED about ToT 13K and getting to meet everyone!! This is going to be my first 'long race' (my first ever race was a 5k Race for the Cure back in June) and it's just so neat to be able to see how I've progressed in the past year from being someone who rarely did anything physically exerting to getting ready to go race for over 8 miles  It's also cool that several of my coworkers keep asking me about it - I think they're almost as excited as me ;) Oh, and other exciting news recently is that I finally got my resort (Pop) booked for marathon weekend - I can only do 2 nights (Sat & Sun), but I'm groovin' because I've never stayed in a Disney resort before! I hope it's worth it! :)

Hoping that RL calms down soon so that I can properly catch up with all the lovely folk here, but in the meantime I guess we'll see each other at the tower!

Howdy folks!!!

I go for another round of PT tomorrow. I don't know if this is a good thing or not, but my spine is starting to self adjust (aka crack on its own). It feels wonderful when this happens...so I assume that it is a good thing.

I have been mandated to a Yoga class (for the scoliosis) and a Pilates class (to work on that core with guided instruction). I'm holding out on this and will get more guidance tomorrow on that.

Did my walk today and figured out it calculates my avg pace as I go along (DUH!! wish I knew about this earlier!!!!)....so it was kind of fun to walk faster and make the average reduce.

I did 50 minutes today and my avg was 15:17...not too shabby!!!

Mel--I HATE it when I accidentally pull the safety cord. I do my best to keep it out of my way.

DH's family had to move our Christmas gathering from Dec 8 to Dec 22...there is nothing good out of this. Evidently the older bro' didn't have this in his calendar so that he can notify us of a work "obligation" to attend a convention in Las Vegas. Found out about this a few weeks ago...glad he took the time to give us "advance warning". Well family wanted to know if the 22nd was okay.

Well for us...not really. That is the date of our 20 miler...we planned on doing that at home with a sitter...so we can't get to the gift exchange until evening once you figure in getting ready, warming up, doing the 20 miles, cooling down, dying..icing, showering....etc. Plus we would be dog tired. I am a bit pissed about this to say the least b/c I think that will go over like a lead balloon. We did reply that the bookend weekends would be better since it was half the distance and half the time..but we will see.

I have good mind to just not show up for the gift exchange. Half the fun is being with family and I just HATE to drive 2.5 hours plus baby time (you know--pull over and deal with the baby en route!) for a greedy gift swap.

Yes--I would rather walk 20 miles than do that.:rolleyes1

Actually, its nice to know that even Wonder Woman has her moments. I hope you have a great run and it gives you the excitement you need for the rest of your marathon training.

Yes--I would rather walk 20 miles than do that.:rolleyes1
I know exactly what you mean!
Just be careful. I asked my family to push back Thanksgiving dinner a couple hours so I could run the Atlanta Half Marathon that morning and instead they decided to have Thanksgiving at my house. I hope they like pizza. Anyone know if Domino's delivers on Thanksgiving day?

Cecilia

Good morning, everyone!!!! Hope everyone had a great weekend and all those lr's went well. I did 7 on Sunday afternoon at Gold's, I ended up doing 3 on the treadmill but finished up the remaining 4 on the elliptical as I was having terrible shin splints and cramping in my calves, not sure what that was about, but I didn't want to mess with it! The time went by fairly quickly as all the cardio equipment has an attached television and I passed the time watching the Bungals lose to the Chiefs. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Yesterday was a rest day, but I didn't rest very much, after working all day, I came home and did 4 loads of laundry and then packed up all my shorts and t-shirts and got out all my sweaters and long sleeves. I love fall!! Tonight is 3 or 4 miles most likely on the treadmill as it's raining here right now.

Lisa--I feel your pain! Last year my extended family's Christmas party was the evening my 20 miler. I did my 20 miles, came home, had an ice bath, a hot shower and then cooked and headed to my Mom and Dad's house. Everyone seemed to enjoy watching me hobble around.

Eva--Glad you had such a great time at Cedar Point! Did you do any of the Halloween stuff? I'm a huge baby and will not do any haunted houses, Stephen and I use that time to ride roller coasters. (which is weird because I love stuff like Ghost Hunters and Most Haunted, etc) Did you get to ride Maverick, the new coaster? It's not as good as Millennium Force, but it's still pretty sweet. Where in Cincinnati is your boyfriend from?

Mel--I'm going to miss you at the ToT!!!!!! I was really hoping that everything would work out. Grrr!!! Oh, are we going to add you to the TM Warrior list with Carrie and Melissa? ;)

Carrie--Stephen and I are MNSSHP on 10/30. I completely forgot that you and Stephanie were going 10/28! But don't worry, you'll get to see our costumes at the race. :) Great job getting out there and doing your 50 minutes, sorry your pace isn't where you want it to be, I am struggling with that myself.

ToT People--Anyone running in costume? Stephen and I are. You guys will love it when you see it! :thumbsup2

Helen--:wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Kelley--Congrats on 26.2!!!!!!!!!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: I am so proud of you for hanging in there and finishing the distance even when you were in pain. How are you feeling today?

Christa--Good luck with your 20 miler! I know you are going to do great!!!! :wizard: :cheer2: :wizard:

Leana--I have a stupid Canadian question for you: what the heck is curling???? :confused3 I don't think we have that in Ohio!! :) Good luck on your marathon!!!!!

Craig--Remind me to come to you when I have a burning math question! ;)

Jen--Hope you are feeling better!!!!!!!!!! Things going better for you and your job and your family?

Vic--Those are a lot of cars!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow!

Okay, I know I missed people, but I have to go and get started on my work. Sometimes I hate work, it really gets in the way. ;)

Good Morning WISH Teammates:

I apologize, but I have no idea what's been going on with my WISH teammates. I miss you guys. I'm in taper mode for the Marine Corps Marathon, and I just got back from a business trip to Washington DC last week. I was sitting on a grant review panel for the National Science Foundation. I got to run a little of the Marine Corps Marathon course while I was in DC. My hotel was in walking distance of the finish line. Today I got in 3 miles on the TM in 30 min. I took it nice and slow and easy, and it felt just fine...

Gotta get to work. Hope everyone is well.

Hey Team - just a quick note from me because I am busy at work. Last night was 43 minutes on the home TM. My chest is getting more congested so tonight is a rest night. That's OK since I won't be home until late anyway.

Krista - Things are still brewing here with work, family and crap. We are hoping that there will be a turn around soon!!

SWDave - So glad to see you here. I have been thinking of you and hope things are well! Good luck with MCM!!!

Craig - Glad you put me in my place with your math skills!!!!!! OK, with my warm up and cool down, we are pretty close to being tied!!! :rotfl2: BTW, my DD7 is doing really well with her 1st grade math! I am so proud of her!

OK, gotta get some work done. I will be gone the end of the week at a conference.

MSDave - glad to see you post - we miss you over here!

FL WISHers - any suggestions for a good place to watch the shuttle launch next week? The last time we watched one, we just pulled over on the highway and watched from the side of the road. I thought maybe some of you had better ideas. The side of the highway was not bad....just thought I'd ask our FL experts!

I am dragging big time today. And I have a zillion things to do before leaving for FL Saturday. So, I am calling this a rest day and picking up things again tomorrow. LTO!

Total drive-by:moped: I haven't been able to read any of the thread...but I will! I got 5 miles in today.....and it was good! Yeah!

Beth

Well we just step outside our house but that probably won't help you too much. ;) Every now and then, we like to go to Cocoa Beach and find a spot to watch it. You can see alot from there.

Hi, everyone!
Wow, so much to respond to and, as usual lately, so little time!

Mel -- I am so sorry you and Jeff wont' be at ToT. We were really looking forward to seeing you! :sad1:

MSDave-- so nice to see you here. Enjoy the taper. Can't wait to hear how our WISH teammates do at MCM!

Congrats to everyone getting in those long runs. I am a bit envious!

I am 3 visits into PT for my back and am seeing improvement already. Much like Helen (hi, sweetie!!! ), seem to move from ailment to ailment.

I ran my first 5k this weekend. Yes, you read that right. I RAN a 5k for the first time ever in my life. Now, that's not to say that I ran it fast or that I ran it well, but it means I actually stayed in jog mode for almost all of it. I'd say 37 of my 42:40 minutes!! LOL!! Yes, you read that right, too! My RUNNING pace is slower than my best three walking 5ks!!! :lmao: Isn't that hysterical? When I looked down at my garmin and saw I'd been jogging for the first 7+ minutes, I decided to just keep jogging. Every once in a while I'd slow to a walk for a minute or so, but I forced myself back into a jog as quickly as possible. The funny thing is Howard went with me to the 5k and found out when he got there that it was for women only (Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k), so he ended up being my scream team for the first time ever. :thumbsup2 He was so cute. He'd stand there and clap, clap, cheer, cheer and then he'd run up the course a bit, stop and clap, clap, cheer, cheer and repeat! My worst fear came true though, and when the runners ahead of me got so far ahead and I was too far in front of the walkers, I couldn't see where I was going and actually went the wrong way on the course for a couple moments until I heard Howard calling me back, from further ahead on the correct part of the course. It was terrible. I couldn 't see where I was going and there was no one to follow. Geez, I am SUCH a basket case. :rolleyes2

Oh, and worst of all, I re-injured my hip sometime between mile 1 and 2. I think that is why my time dropped from a first mile of 12-something to second mile of 13-something and 3rd mile of 14-something with an overall clock-time pace of 13:47. So, I'm limping around favoring my hip and babying my back, but, HEY! I really feel like a runner!

Okay, I'm still at work and have to get back to it. Have a great night, everyone! :grouphug:

Cam - you ran the whole thing?! :worship: I really hope you didn't hurt your hip again.

Bill - I will tell Chad we should go to Cocoa Beach. I've never been there. We never really leave Disney, so this would be an adventure! ;)

Hey Cam - if you went wrong even by 10 feet that means you ran over 5km - yeeehoooooo!

Kristi - not that I'm a Florida expert but when we were in Orlando and there was a shuttle launch we were told to go to the Burger King in - I think - Titusville (sure someone more local can tell me if I'm making that up) - the car park is directly opposite the launch pads, so we sat there with our burgers, there were a couple of salty old seadog types with their radio tuned into mission control and it was pretty cool.

Who asked about curling? Okay so I'm an English, New Zealander living in Australia talking about a sport in Canada, but it's a very strange sport where you have an oversized ball/hockey puck thing that moves along the ice by people basically doing something that looks like brushing the ice with brooms - imagine lawn bowls crossed with ice hockey and housework. Apparently england or NZ (can't remember which of my countries but it was on the tele a lot somewhere!) did quite well in a winter olympics recently hence my vague knoweldge. I'm sure someone else can explain it far more professionally however.

I'm so jealous of everyong running ToT especially now there's costumes. - I haven't yet been in the States on Halloween and really want to get there, not looking likely though - I may be angling to do Disneyland next year when the dates are announced (said the girl who announced yesterday that she was qutting running after the Goofy as I've got too many injuries - that resolution lasted a long time didn't it!!!) so that'll be my trip.

Oh BTW did my 5km this morning and feet are okay - work that out - run, no pain, walk total agony! Stupid feet. Helen
