Rumor a Disney hotel is replacing Circus Circus in Las Vegas

Honestly, that would really disappoint me. I really enjoy going to the VB/HHI and have my first trip to AUL planned for this year. I love the idea of more non-park resorts, but not Vegas.

We went to Vegas for the first time in a long time last summer. We needed to visit family in the middle of AZ and Vegas was the easiest/direct flight. So, we decided to spend 1 night there. We went to a Cirque show that ended around midnight. I could not believe how many (young!) kids were running around that casino at that time of night. In my previous Vegas experience there was security carding at every entrance.

Disney having a resort in Vegas would disappoint you? Why? How would it hurt you if they did? No one would force you to go to it.

Like I said earlier, I would be very skeptical of this, but if they did, I would absolutely use it. We go to Vegas every year or two now as our "break from the kids" vacation. Why not use DVC points?

For me it would be because that investment could have been made in a lot of other more desirable places that I would love to go. New York City? Paris? Tokyo? While I wouldn’t have to stay in Vegas I would be disappointed because that investment could have been made in a lot better places that i would enjoy utilizing my points at.

Well, I guess, but that could be said of anywhere for anybody. For example, I would have zero interest in a DVC resort at any of the places that you mentioned.

I love Vegas so much. This would be such a dream for me. 😂

Was just there for New Years and be there again for my birthday this year!

This is my feeling as well. I would love to be able to use DVC points overseas (and it might be easier to get European/Asian Disney fans to buy in if they had a home resort on their own continent (or a SAP resort they could use somewhat regularly on years they don't want to travel to the US).

I would also be OK with other city destinations or ideally a nature location (like Park City or Jackson Hole).

We don't hate Las Vegas, but there are already so many hotel options of every possible variety, I can't imagine why we would use DVC points there.... it's also very close to Los Angeles, so I don't know why you'd go to LV for Disney if you could go to Anaheim for Disney instead.

I would actually settle for a point exchange rate that wasn’t insulting at the Disney hotels in Paris and Tokyo….

150 points a night for the most basic Disneyland Hotel room in the summer vs $1500 a night cash rate… $10 a point….

You can (via Interval), but I would only do it if I had points that were otherwise going to expire. Getaways here are usually very inexpensive even at the better options.

No offense to anyone, but any of these posts that are picking and choosing places other than Vegas (the topic of the thread) are mostly irrelevant - because those opinions would only be applicable if we are assuming that Disney would do something like this based on what the members want, rather than what would be most profitable for them.

And we know that's not the case.

Yes, disappointing. Because there are tons of other places that are more consistent with the Disney brand. To someone else's point, Vegas is very much "rated R". I'd much rather see expansions similar to Aulani, or even the cruise line. Resorts with the combo of family-friendly and adults-only pools, etc. Just my opinion.

No, just no. Cedarfair/6-Flags maybe, Disney no. Las Vegas is the very definition of "all hat, no cowboy". Everything there is focused on one thing; you putting coins in a slot machine. Everything you see is just window dressing to that end. I worked on the design of the Luxor and I actually went to the MGM park. Nothing, and I mean nothing in Vegas is, was, or ever has been "Disney Quality".

Edit to add;
If the rumor was Disney was going to buy, tear down completely, and build something at Buffalo Pete's then slim chance, but maybe. There is scheduled to be a Brightline West station at Buffalo Petes, and that whole place is, or is nearly, completely shut down right now. I could kinda see that.

Have you been to Vegas in the last decade?

Vegas is no longer about doing anything to draw people in so they spend money gambling. Used to be cheap buffets, free drinks, cocktail girls, etc - anything to draw people to come to gamble.

Now, it's a total destination with expensive celebrity chef restaurants, world-class shows, celebrity musician residencies, etc. Many people these days go to Vegas and are plenty entertained without gambling at all.

I could honestly see the WDC be interested in the north strip property, but it would definitely be at arm's length from Mickey and friends. I don't think we'll ever see Goofy at the craps table, BUT I could definitely see an ESPN themed resort/hotel. I can imagine them keeping and retheming Adventuredome into something sports related so that you can bring/distract the kids. I could also see them investing/creating a landmark to get guests/players to visit... say... the "World's Largest Sportsbook"? Like they wouldn't even need to offer your typical gaming (slots/table games), just a GIGANTIC "Sports Center" With the pro-sports movement happening in Vegas, this wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Throw in a DVC tower once it's established and making profits, and I could see it being pretty easy to sell/popular to visit.

They should only be carding for the actual casino floor, the pathways on the casino floor are fine when you're just walking through (without meandering too long) but where the machines actually are (which usually a different pattern is used for walkways and no-no areas on the casino floor is used). If there's a particular show or spot that has a age limit they could card right there at the entrance to that theater, etc.

When we last went in 2023 we saw so many strollers out and about lots of times at night. Bellagio in particular was a madhouse with strollers both inside in the lobby area and down the pathway and to watch the fountains. The pathway from Bellagio down and around the sidewalk was not built for a ton of traffic never mind people trying to push their strollers.

Yeah, and back when they opened MGM Grand Adventure it was all about family entertainment. Vegas has tried and failed to re-brand before. This is no different. Well, except that they've learned that you WILL spend money on other things, and those things will also draw you to put the coins in the machines. LSS - this is no place for Disney if Disney is not going to focus on gambling. The mob is alive and well, as are the seedier aspects that go along with it.

I don't particularly care about Disney in Vegas or not Vegas but I would say that I agree with investment but would actually say invest first and foremost to existing properties something of which they struggle with over the recent years. I do agree as far as DVC they are pretty well saturated in Orlando but tat doesn't mean they have to use funds to build a new resort as opposed to improving existing ones or things like transportation to connect more resorts together.

I doubt you'd see Tokyo though because that would fundamentally shift the existing relationship they have with the resort there. They don't own the park there, they just license the content and quite frankly I don't think they would do a good job there and would rather leave it up to the existing way.

One thing to keep in mind is that some of these places people have mentioned are extremely expensive overall. Vegas on the Strip isn't soooo bad, normally it's the resort fees that get you. Don't get me wrong some of the resorts and rooms can be very expensive but overall the real estate would probably be more affordable in land and room cost as opposed to trying to be in NYC (because people are going to want to be closer to places to see there) and Paris which I'm not sure how that might compete with DLP there.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

"Come, come now Miss Haynes. Surely you know that everybody's got a little larceny operating in 'em!"
