Wk Of Oct 14 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Hey Team - Still not feeling so hot. Whatever it is, it's in my chest now!!! But I hit the TM for 65 minutes, even tho I was supposed to run 6 miles today (cut back week). I figured something is better than nothing. The weather here is cold and rainy. We are barely hitting the 50's lately!

I just found out my podiatrist is going to Ironman Kona. That makes me feel pretty good that she understands me!

Mel - Awesome pace! Was that for 13 miles?

Vic - Congrats on the 10! A little tender is manageable! Glad the foot is hanging in there!

Kelley - THAT IS AWESOME. Your pace is unbelievable. Did you walk the whole thing or mix in some running?

Jackie - Way to get back out there!

Oh, I forgot I have to make the family dinner. They are getting restless!!!

Wow you guys are fast and busy posters. I hope I can keep up some. My new work hours may allow for more time but I'm going to be sooooo tired.

I didn't walk yesterday but will be doing some dvd walking this evening. Gotta put my podcast for the couch to 5K back on my mp3 player so I can walk after work on Monday at the track. I am loving our temps lately they are finally dropping again. :thumbsup2

I'm taking a break from getting organized for returning to work. I have so much to do and I want/need to get to bed at a decent hour tonight. Finally got my laundry caught up today. :woohoo:

I think I'm going to relax for an hour or two before we make dinner.:rolleyes1

Well, today was my longest walk/run post injury (7 months! :scared1: ).

I did 8.5 miles around a park loop. My total time was 2:09:07 (for a 15:11 mph pace). I walked most of it, with a few short runs mixed in. There were a few times I wanted to sit down and take a rest, but I fought the urge and kept going. I did stop once to stetch my back and calves.

Here's the good, the bad and the lessons learned:

The good:
I got the steps in :)
I got the steps in under the sweep time :thumbsup2
I survived!
No blisters!:) Just one hot spot that I'll need to address before my race next Sunday.

The bad:
I wanted a faster time :sad2: (I've been happy with my times on the track. But that's all flat. Today gave me an indication of how I have to pick up my pace on the road.
I'm sore. Everything from the waist down is stiff and sore. Took my ice bath and will take it easy the rest of the evening.

Lessons learned:
I need to pick up the pace more
After next week's race, I seriously have to work on my core. Think that will take some of the pressure off my back.
Must stay on track with training for Goofy 08. Can't let LTO or I'll be in bad shape come Jan. Must stick to training plan!

Monte - congrats on reaching your fundraising goal! :cool1: Hope your feet feel better :wizard:

tiberius - great job on your ten-miler!:thumbsup2

Kelley - Yay for your 1st Marathon. You may be tired and you may be sore, but it's a great feeling when you cross that finish line! :cloud9:

Jen - Hope you're feeling better. Those chest colds are a real pain! :wizard:

Terri - Congrats on doing the loop today. It must have been gorgeous there today. I considered going to Philly this morning but decided to do the LR around home to save time. I'm fairly certain I'll be there next week.

Like you said...you beat the sweep pace. You have plenty of time to increase the pace/distance.

Lou

Wow, so many posts, so little time.

I didn't get a chance to read a lot of the posts but I did pick out Cedar Point - my all time favorite park! And, Kelly's first marathon. That is awesome! First marathon then a Goofy a few months later - more power to you.

I was up in Syracuse this last week. Miserable weather. Thursday I did 5 miles in the cold and rain. Friday I did 10 miles in the damp cold. Gosh was it freezing. I don't have cold weather gear and froze my butt off. Actually the wind was what was the killer.

All I can say is I am glad I live in Florida! The tables have turned :whoohoo: We used to suffer through the heat and humidity. Now we'll be getting the good weather and the Northerners will start to suffer from the weather.

Have a great week,
Duane

Travelocity let me change my reservation and only charged a $6.00 processing fee, so now my roundtrip flight is $137.60....how sweet is that?:cool1:

Hello, WISHers!

I had an interesting run this morning as I took DD with me for the first 5 and then did the next 5 alone. The first 5 were pretty slow, but DD is so proud of herself for getting them done! The last 5 I did in 47 which is blazing for me, so I felt really great!

Kristin – Sorry to hear you’re battling the heat! We’ve finally gotten some relief here and it sure is nice. Good job getting those miles in!

Mel – I’ve run into that wall in the middle of the sidewalk as well! So sorry you’ll miss ToT but I understand trying to juggle that with kids’ activities.

Mike – My DH has a huge collection of cards, but they’re baseball and football and now DS loves to look through them. At least they are relatively small!

Eva -- Glad that headache eased up. Love, love, love Cedar Point! I grew up about 45 minutes from there and went every summer. We took the kids there a couple summers ago and had a blast!

Kim – Good luck staying on track this week. Watch out for that LTO!

Steffwalks – Hope that last long walk got you all set for Tot!

Stephanie – Technology is wonderful … sometimes. But I’m glad you felt good! Hope those customers were nice to you today.

Monte – PD for the foot issues! Did you get through the whole 9 miles? And you can keep the snow, thanks!

Lou – Sorry about the foot issues; no advice here. You’re right about the cooler weather; I can run so much faster on my long run!

Jackie – Glad you were able to get out for a walk, especially since the weather is so great! I hope your running goes well also.

Lisa – I am sure walking would totally test me and find some muscles I never knew I had!

Richard – So glad you had a good race and a great time! Way to beat that goal!

Vic – Run/walk if it works for you. Just find a way to get ‘r done! By the way, that’s a pretty impressive collection you’ve got there!

Kelley – WTG on your first marathon! That is a great finish. Hope those sore muscles heal up quickly!

Laurie - Good pace on the 12 miler! It’s so nice when those long runs go well.

Jen – PD for the illness. Hope you get over it quickly!

Melissa – Welcome! I don’t know what’s harder sometimes, keeping up with the training or keeping up with this thread! Zoe is adorable!

Terri – Way to get the long workout done! I’m with you working on my core. I’m trying to strengthen it with weights a couple times a week and it is definitely making a difference.

Duane – I hate running in the run. Glad you got those miles in and hope you enjoy your balmy Florida winter!

Happy training, all!
Renee

Kelley - WTG!!!! :woohoo:

Mel - I understand, but am upset that you are going to have to miss ToT! :sad1:

No training today. I had a birthday party to take Zack to in the morning. Then we had tickets for the circus in Boston tonight. I just got home and have tons to do before bed. I have 5 miles on the schedule for tomorrow and WILL get 'em done!

Hey all! No running per se for me today…but did 2 shows and 1 full rehersal. So I am tired. But anyway!
Let me tri to catch up!

Mel – So sorry LTO has happened! Great run though! I have had that same wall appear out of nowhere! But GIRL! You crashed through the wall and ran!:cool1:

Kristin – WTG on getting out there and running! I know it is always hard for me to get-r-done in the afternoon!

Oh Eva! I am sorry for the headache! But you ROCK! Seriously! You ran anyway! :yay: Glad you had fun at Cedar Point!

Melissa – JIC I forgot to say it….WELCOME to the group!

Kim – Here is some PD to help you stay on track!:wizard: :wizard:

Stephanie – WTG on that run! You are doing great after the marathon…it is so hard for me to get back into the grove sometimes after an event.:confused3

Steffwalks – WTG on that LW!

Hey for all you "hotties" come here for a visit because we got 6" of snow last night and we're expecting another 8' today.
Now Monte, which “Hotties” are do you speak of? WWDave, Big Vic, Lou, Richard, Mike…..:rolleyes1
Sorry about the foot...feet. :wizard: and WTG on the LR! And WTG on raising so much $$$!

Lou – WTG on the super fast run!:cool1: And after an 18 miler! I sometimes have pain in the ball of my feet too! :confused3 I think it is how I run though. My running store finds me shoes that pad the ball more b/c I tend to land on them more….

Jackie – Glad your walk/run went well! You are doing SO GREAT!

Richard – WOW on that race! That looks like to me you did the perfect race!:yay:

Vic – YOU DID 10 MILES! Be proud!:woohoo:

Kelley – I knew you could finish! And you did SO GREAT! :woohoo: I am so proud of you:cool1: ….now get that knee better!

Laurie – It really isn’t too bad getting around on race weekend…you just have to know when to venture out and when to stay home…and go grocery shopping b/4 the race fans get to town b/c it can get crowded! WTG on the 12 mile LR! I am glad it went well.:yay:

Jen – Sorry you are not feeling well! WTG on the run, but please be careful!

LisaLovesPooh – I second the walking is hard! Lots of PD to you!:wizard:

Terri – WTG on the 8.5 miles! Glad you had no blisters! Hope your race goes well…I did read you were doing a race next weekend…right? It is getting late! Anyway! WTG! 8.5 miles is a LONG way!:cutie:

Renee – WTG on your 5 miles with DD and your super fast 5 miles alone! 47 min!:cool1: WOW!

Duane – WTG on getting the run in…even though it was cold! I HATE being cold when I run:eek: ….But I am glad I live in NC and not FL! We have cooler summers and mild winters too!;)

Kristi – Get those 5 miles done! Girl! YOU ARE A BUSY WOMAN!:cool2:

Sorry so long...and sorry to anyone I missed!

Christa - Yep, I'm headed to San Fran for the Nike Women's 1/2 (I think Leanne and Susie are other WISH-ers going). I plan on coming home with that Tiffany necklace. :)

Lou - It was nice on the drive today. A little windy in spots.

I wore the clothes I'm planning to wear in the race, to see how they felt. Everything was good! I also bought a pair of the Injinji (toe) socks. They were great! Thanks to the WISH-er who recommended them. :thumbsup2
I hope they work just as good next Sunday.

I discovered another 'Bad" thing from today's walk ; I've been eating all afternoon. I've been SO hungry! No wonder I need to work on my core. Also did 100 crunches tonight.

Terri

That's good to know, thanks Stacey. You getting this mess down there?:cold:

We got hail then snow. It lasted the whole day, with clear spots, but no accumulation. How much did you get? Great job on the lower fare! $137 is unheard of for me!

Monte - Sorry to hear about your feet acting up! And great to hear about that snow! I have learned to like winter in the last couple of years...makes me excited for what's to come!

Jackie - Good to hear your up and moving. Shin splints are NOT fun! I remember getting them bad when I first started running and it took some serious mind-over-pain work to run though them.

Lou - Thanks a great pace with or without foot pain!! I can only imagine how well you would do without the aches after the 10 miles!!

Richard - Congrats on finishing the race...I hope I'll be able to get up to a 10 miles someday! PS I've had two Goldens...they are the sweetest dogs ever!

Big Vic
- I have done the run/walk method in the past. "Wogging"...that's what I call it. I have heard many times that it's an all around better workout and better for your muscles and joints.

Kelley - Congrats on your first marathon!! That's huge!!!

Laurie - I've planned on hitting up every amusement park I can, but something just draws me to Cedar Point over and over again. Same reason I spend every vacation at WDW I suppose...once you go, you are hooked!!

Jen - Hope you are feeling better!

Renee - I grew up in MI and now live in OH so I've always gone to CP. Soo fun! I'm a little sad I have to wait til May now to go again!

I went out the rail trail yesterday and ran 6....59:24. I think I need to do more speed work, but I'd feel so silly doing it by myself at the gym. We have a .10 mile track and to do a 400 I'd have to go around...what...like 2 1/2 times? And recover for 1 1/4? Ugh. I love doing ladder intervals on the treadmill and fartlek outdoors so much more...but I know the formal interval training is supposed to be so much more effective. Anyone run on a similar small track that has a training plan for speed work?

We got a total of 10"...suppose to be overcast today, but sunny tomorrow.

Hmmm, so many choices:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

Good Morning WISH Team.

This last week of schedule changes and the race left me whipped. Erica and I went to bed last night at 8 pm and slept till 7 am this morning. That's not a big deal for Erica but rare for me.

We are heading out to try again to get a 14 miler in, we had planned on that last week but we stopped at 12 miles because it was so hot. It's cooler today so we should be fine.

When we went to the little race expo for the 10K classic they had a health screening set up by the WKU Athletic Performance Research Lab. One of the tests is lung volume. You fill your lungs and blow out all your air through a tube. My results were 140% of normal for my age, hight weight ect... So it's official I put out 140% more hot air than a normal person.:upsidedow Like you guys didn't know that already.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Dave, (not Dazed this week):hippie:

Morning teammates! Gonna try to get a little interval work done today during DD's dance class. I developed some sort of strange pain around my right shoulder blade. I think it's from hauling a 30lb + child around. Last night I took some advil PM and it left me comatose, but pain free. Not much pain this am, so we'll see how the run goes!

Kelly--WTG on the 26.2! That's awesome!!!!

Hey, did any of ya'll ToTers notice that Daylight Savings Time ends Sunday the 28th?? Does that mean that we get an extra hour to party after the race or that Disney gets an extra hour to clean up after us????

Okay, gotta run and get the troops ready! Have a great Monday all!

Vic-- D'oh:headache: I'm an idiot! Well, I'm not the only one who mis-read the Muzi Chev flyer and thought Jeff Gordon was actually going to be there! Turned out it was a virtual reality car-thingy. We didn't go. But we did watch the race:thumbsup2

Oh, and that really is an impressive addiction.. um, I mean collection:lmao:

Ask Craig about his LRs on the indoor track;)

Stephanie, I think daylights savings was changed to mid November didn't it??? I know it use to always be the weekend before Halloween but I thought for some reason this year they changed it. We have to look into that, I like the idea of a extra hour of partying!!!!
