WISH Biggest Loser 8 - Couch to 5K Challenge

I won't be starting W7 until Wed. My calves are SCREAMING tonight. I haven't had a rest day since Friday and it caught up with me sooner since the runs are longer. I will be resting tomorrow and then running 25 mins Wed and possibly Thurs. I'll have to see how my legs feel since that's my running day at work and they are ususally sore enough after that alone. I should still be finished sooner than I thought since I kicked my own butt for the first few weeks.

I'm thinking about running my first race Nov 27th. I'll wait until I'm done with the program and see how I feel about it then.

What do you do on your rest days? How often do you take them?

I'm going to do my ball and some light weights tomorrow and then rest every 2 days or maybe even every other day.

My schedule goes like this:

Monday - strength/weights class at the gym
Tuesday - Run
Wednesday - Run
Thursday - boot camp class at the gym (more strength and cardio)
Friday - Run
Saturday - REST
Sunday - Run

It's working for me, as I get a break from running which gives my legs time to recover a bit, but I'm still working out.

I started W2 yesterday, and I am happy to report that I am still alive :)
My knees are still getting a little twingy by the end of the running, so I will have to keep my eye on that and try not to hurt myself. I need to work on walking faster during the walking part. Usually I am a fast walker, around 4.5mph, but I only do 4 after running because I am tired!

Thanks for sharing your schedule Jan. It looks like a good one. I haven't joined a gym yet, and I try to do weight training at home. We will see how well that works.

I went for a run on Tuesday, listening to w6d2, and it went great. I was happy with my running during the first 10 minutes, but the second 10 minutes didn't go so great, but I know that I will do better next time.

On Wednesday, I went running with my girlfriend, and it also went well. I ran further than I have in a long time (without stopping), and was really proud of myself. Ok - it was for about 12 minutes, but the distance I covered was more than before so that has to count for something... :-)

My husband and I were supposed to go for a run tonight, but it's raining and cold this morning (37 deg. F) so I think I am going to wimp out.

Oh - one other thing I wanted to share. I have two pairs of running shoes - Asics Foundations and Saucony Stabils. I have done the majority of my running on the Asics, and have had pain in my calfs (more like a tightness pain than anything). I ran on Wednesday with the Sauconys, and no calf pain. I've only run with the Sauconys a couple times, and none of them recently. Maybe the calf pain others are feeling is because of shoes... Just a thought, but I'm sticking with the Sauconys from now on!

Hello Everyone. Checking in.

I ran week 6 day 3 on Wednesday and was able to make it the full 25 minutes. I made it a little more than 2 miles which I can't believe.

I agree that shoes make all the different. When I started I was running on just my cross training shoes and my legs were killing me. I finally decided if I was going to keep doing this I was going to have to spend some money on running shoes. I went to the store and tried on what felt like 20 pairs of running shoes. I decided on the ASICS GT. They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn, they are like running on a cloud. Everyone's foot is different so I suggest trying on lots of pairs.

I am afraid to start week 7 and run 25 minutes everytime. :scared1: I am just trusting that I made it this far I can keep making it.:yay:

WOW! Everyone is doing GREAT! I can't even imagine running that long. I just finished W3D3 and am a little worried about doing the 5 minute run next week. By the end of the 3 mins. I am more than ready to start walking again.

My schedule:
Mon, Wed, Fri- runs
Tues & Thurs- bike (I am up to 15 miles:cool1:)
Sat & Sun- off

I am determined to start W4 on Monday. I feel like I just got stuck on W2 and spent 3? weeks there. I am not going to let that happen again. I may have to call DH to pick me up somewhere along the side of the road, but I am moving on.

I am buying new shoes this weekend. Should be interesting since I have always bought cross trainers, not running shoes.

I ran W7D1 yesterday. It went amazingly and I ran faster than ever before. And I'm SICK! I won't be running today because my chest is all weird and I'm coughing like crazy. Hoping for W7D2 tomorrow because I've neve taken this may free days in one week.

If you are buying new shoes, I recommend going to a running store. The people there will watch you walk in bare feet and assess your gait to help get you the best shoes. It's kinda weird having them watch you walk, but they know what to look for.

Way to go, ShortyNBug!
I am sick so I am not running this week at all. I felt it coming on all week, and then it hit Thursday, so I have been in bed since then.
Hopefully well enough next week.

Well, I bought new running shoes over the weekend and was really excited to do todays run. Let me tell you it was not pretty. I moved to W4D1 and did fine until the last 5 minute run and could only do 4 minutes of it.:sad2:

But think of all that running you did before that last minute when you had a little blip? :thumbsup2

I really need to get to W7D2 today since I haven't run since Thursday. I'll let you know how it goes later.

I'll be doig W8D1 tomorrow. I don't think I'd better do 3 days of running in a row so I'm going to break out one of my old WATP videos and do that instead.

Hi, jumping in if that's okay...

New to the WISH threads, not to DISboards

I'm in the middle of Week 2 of the C25k

Did it once before a few years ago, and am glad to finally have started it again.

Hi Deb. We are in about the same place. This is my second week of week 2, because I was sick last week and didn't work out very regularly (OK, I only did one day). But I have done better. ONly one more day of Week 2 then next week moving on. So far so good - just some sore knees.

Hi Manda, thanks for the welcome!

Here's to our continued success.

I started W3 yesterday. I was surprised how much longer 3 minutes seems than 1.5 minutes. I was able to do it, but I was sure happy to be walking again and I kept checking my watch to see how much time I had left. I try really hard to not check my watch, but I couldn't help it! It was only D1, so hopefully it will get a little easier before I have to move on to next week!

I'm a late joiner and current BL participant. I want to try one of the Disney runs next year or in 2011, so I've got to start somewhere!

I think Asics running shoes are great for a lot of different feet. When I had plantar fasciitis, the doctor actually prescribed Asics GEL running sneakers for everyday wear (I wasn't a runner).

Started Week 4 yesterday. 5 minutes is a long time but I did it! I am feeling like I am really progressing and it is exciting!
