I am in Canberra, Australia. Cafes and restaurants are limited to takeaway meals and drinks. We have just been advised that if we can work from home we should be. As of midnight tonight, all beauty and nail salons will be closed. Food courts are closed. Gyms are closed.

It’s a ghost town as everyone is hunkered inside. We are in a ‘Safer at Home’ situation where all non essential jobs have been halted or are being done from home.

We can get groceries, beer and weed (mind you, I don't smoke). As long as we keep with the social distancing, we'll be about as ok as one can get in these trying times.

(I'm in the Greater Toronto Area)

Hi mackel1994 I’m also in Canberra. Small world hey. It feels so weird at the moment. Kind of a calm before the storm since I know people who have been tested but no one with covid-19 yet. I feel like after the drought, the fires, the smoke, the hail, the floods further north, and now the virus... will we ever get a break!?!

New York City. Much like where you are but with less people in the streets then you'd expect to see.
Stay safe!

Vermont - Stay Home Stay Safe order starts today at 5pm Only essential businesses open. I still can't believe all of this, such a different word, way of life, way of work, you name it right now.

Be safe everyone.

Massachusetts. Also under a stay at home advisory. Only essential businesses open (but very long list of what is considered essential). Restaurants take out only.

I’m in a suburban/rural town and most people seem to be heeding the advice and staying home and taking it all in stride. If this is the hardest thing we are asked to do, we can’t complain.

Last night I did learn about three people we know who just tested positive. So it is getting closer to home in the sense that we now have faces to go along with the number count..

May everyone stay healthy!

New Jersey! We are much like you except our stuff has been closed a bit longer. Schools closed the last day was March 13th. Then after that little by little everything else closed. We are home bound unless for groceries etc. Everything is closed except for essential businesses and we have a curfew at night.

Athens, Ga. We are supposed to be under a stay at home order with only "essential" businesses being open. I work for a 2 person IT company that services Docs and Farms so we are considered essential. I only work 2 days a week so I'm at work. When I came to work there was just about the same amount of traffic as is normal for any time that UGA is closed. Most restaurants have figured out how to do curb side service and the only things I can see that are closed are the small businesses in our downtown area. This is a college town but they did close down all the bars. My local wine shop has managed to stay open because she actually special orders food and sells it and cheese so she is considered a food store. She does have to limit the amount of people in the shop to less than 10 and is is doing curb side delivery to people who want it and has arranged with a local food delivery service to deliver anything except alcohol. She did have to stop her monthly wine tastings and her Fromage Fridays where she sold cheese plates. I haven't been in there because it is a tiny shop and I can't image how anyone could stay at least 6 feet apart. I'm stocked up on wine anyway.

I'm in a small town in Michigan. Things are pretty much normal here, aside from the schools and libraries and shops being closed. People are mostly doing the same things they'd normally do on a day off, but a lot of what is normal here fits easily into social distancing guidelines - walking dogs, going fishing, working in the yard, etc. If not for the lack of traffic to/from our downtown business district and all the empty parking spots on our main street, it would feel very much like a semi-permanent weekend.

Hi Mackel: I live in N. Minnesota close to the Canadian border. We are doing the same things in our town. The local shopping center is closed. Only grocery stores, Target, Walmart, and filling stations are open. There are rumors that local government agencies are going to be closing soon, ie: license bureaus, Social service, etc. Sounds like people all over the globe are doing what they can during this trying time. On a lighter note: I just wonder what my hair will look like without a cut and shaping every 6 weeks, Ick, probably a brillo pad, LOL! As far as outdoor activities, we still have a lot of snow and all the lakes are iced over. You can walk around downtown for exercise though.

Colorado. Shelter in place order until April 10 right now. Only essential businesses are open. Food is takeaway only. Lots of panic shoppers here. I have to go to multiple stores to find the things we need, and now many things are being limited to no more than three (cereal, bread, milk, eggs, paper products, laundry detergent). When shelter in place was announced, liquor stores and dispensaries (marijuana) were included, but the decision was made to allow them to stay open if extreme social distancing was implemented.

My daughter’s school has switched over to online learning, and I’m finding myself in the new role of homeschool mom. Shelter in place was announced when It became obvious it was necessary; people here weren’t taking social distancing seriously. I drove past a park last week, and I was really alarmed at what I saw.! It was like an extended vacation. People playing sports (I saw football and volleyball games), large groups gathering for picnics, kids playing together on playgrounds, and even what appeared to be a yoga class! Since shelter in place, we’re allowed to be outside for exercise with our families as long as we’re following social distancing guidelines. The streets in my neighborhood are busy with people walking dogs and kids riding bikes. It’s uplifting to see the activity around my neighborhood during this difficult time, and my daughter and I have been making It part of our routine to get outside often.

eastern side of washington state/stay at home went into effect last night. once the universities let out early this month there was the normal reduction of people but as things have become worse and the universities announced only on-line for the remainder of the academic year......................it's more empty than it is during the summers. whole apartment complexes with only a few cars b/c the students have gone home (guess it's still cheaper to live w/mom and dad and just lose those last few months of rent b/c you save on utilities and groceries and such).

went into the little college town near me today-didn't see a single person on the street and grocery stores were almost empty (clerks said the big rush was in the 48 hours before the order took effect).

I'm in Tampa, Florida. I live in a large gated community which I haven't left in almost two weeks, so I have no idea what traffic is like or what is open. My husband's work is considered essential so he goes out every day but I haven't asked him what it's like out there.

There are TONS of people out in the community walking, riding bikes, walking dogs, etc., but this isn't at all unusual in my neighborhood. We have a community Facebook page and people have established "supply watches" where they inform neighbors of what stores have what. There is a also a place for neighbors to post any needs they have or extras they have to share. There are also a couple community "activities" like scavenger hunts where you leave something in your window for children to "collect," and also a virtual Lego building group for the kids. My son still has swim practice three mornings a week with a very small group of kids, but this is only half a mile away from our house at our community pool. Lots of people still playing tennis. Not too many swimmers apart from the swim team kids. I see one or two people at the basketball court or on the playground equipment at the pocket park down the street fairly often but never a large group, usually a parent and child or maybe a couple siblings.

We started "homeschooling" this week after "coming back" from spring break last week and it's been going very well. I think we were all kind of relieved to start the schoolwork back; if anything I'm disappointed that it doesn't take up enough of our day.

We live in nyc, so don't even ask ! It's EERIE !
No noise outside and everyone that is out is wearing a mask !
The store shelves are bare
Went to Walgreens today to pick up a prescription - letting people in 2 at time - max of 10 allowed in store

Yuma, Arizonia....the only business closed are restaurants and entertainment venues. everything else is open to unsafe conditions. And I guess the only open mexico border. and for medical visits, no spouse or adult child can accompany, that happened yesterday at noon. As for walking, it was crowded this morning on the streets, light cloud cover. We are lucky in that winter visitors have left and we are geologically isolated, no one lives within 50 to 100 miles from us. also, brother just went to Phoneix to buy a brand new ATV...so with that attitude...we going to mexico tomorrow for fish tacos...such is the perspective here on the desert border.

I am in N. Florida and some people are staying home, but too many are still out and about. Hell, nail salons in my area are still open.

Miami - also about 3 million.

We have a variety of restrictions. Some cities (we have 30+ cities, towns, etc in our county) have harsh lockdowns, but most are just encouraging people to stay home. Hotels are closed, restaurants are take-out only, bars and gyms closed, all public events canceled including two huge events (350,000-400,000 people over 4 days for one, >1 million in one day for the other), lots of businesses closed.

We're in our second week at home, but DW's boss thought she was essential for the last few days before her retirement at the end of the month, so she's had to go in.

That boss moved to another assignment, and his replacement's first words when he walked in today were, "Girl, what are you doing here. GO HOME." So she did. Two hours later, they called her frantic and she had to go back in. I'm not making this up, they have 6 people taking over her work...and they just can't do it. But at least the new guy will treat her decent for her last 3 days.

DD is on Spring Break this week, but will be back at the grind next week. She's doing fine with the homeschooling, but she's a senior. Our district was well prepared and it's been pretty seamless.

My middle daughter is a kindergarten teacher and I'm sure she's going nuts. I have no idea how you remotely teach a 5 year old!

Traffic is light. I went to Publix today for the first time in about a week. Sparse crowd with quite a few people wearing masks and/or gloves (I wore both). I intentionally went to a smaller store and it was reasonably stocked -- a few bare shelves, but I got everything I needed including water.

I also drove by Costco just for grins and the gas pumps were zero line -- drive right up to the pump. Entry to the store was being managed to limit the number of people inside, but there was no line. And...in the best sign I've seen recently, I saw a woman coming out with a 30-pack of CHARMIN!

Good luck to everyone, and stay safe!
