What is it like in your city at the moment?

Hi mackel1994 I’m also in Canberra. Small world hey. It feels so weird at the moment. Kind of a calm before the storm since I know people who have been tested but no one with covid-19 yet. I feel like after the drought, the fires, the smoke, the hail, the floods further north, and now the virus... will we ever get a break!?!
How crazy! I don't know why I assumed I'd be the only Canberran on here. I imagine we'll be in lockdown pretty shortly. It will be strange when we finally know someone who tests positive.
Surely after our horrible summer we deserve to be immune to this!

Most businesses are closed in my large Los Angeles suburb. My local hospital has only 25 Covid testing kits, 40 respirators, and virtually no masks and gloves. My oncology center has stopped radiation treatments for breast and prostate cancer treatments. Food is still scarce on the shelves.

Colorado. Shelter in place order until April 10 right now. Only essential businesses are open. Food is takeaway only. Lots of panic shoppers here. I have to go to multiple stores to find the things we need, and now many things are being limited to no more than three (cereal, bread, milk, eggs, paper products, laundry detergent). When shelter in place was announced, liquor stores and dispensaries (marijuana) were included, but the decision was made to allow them to stay open if extreme social distancing was implemented.

My daughter’s school has switched over to online learning, and I’m finding myself in the new role of homeschool mom. Shelter in place was announced when It became obvious it was necessary; people here weren’t taking social distancing seriously. I drove past a park last week, and I was really alarmed at what I saw.! It was like an extended vacation. People playing sports (I saw football and volleyball games), large groups gathering for picnics, kids playing together on playgrounds, and even what appeared to be a yoga class! Since shelter in place, we’re allowed to be outside for exercise with our families as long as we’re following social distancing guidelines. The streets in my neighborhood are busy with people walking dogs and kids riding bikes. It’s uplifting to see the activity around my neighborhood during this difficult time, and my daughter and I have been making It part of our routine to get outside often.
I'm glad you're still managing to get outside! It's so important these days. My gym is closed so I am trying to replace any time I would usually spend there with an outdoor walk or run.

The panic buying sucks! I can't even do my usual weekly shop because of the item limitations and the lack of product on the shelves. Having to go every 2-3 days which kind of defeats the purpose of staying indoors...

South Louisiana, 75 miles from New Orleans. We are mostly retired, do a little consulting. I went to Target at 8 am today during senior shopping hour. It was calm, more Target workers than shoppers. We have no kids at home any more, but schools and colleges started online classes about 2 weeks ago. We are under stay at home order as of this past Monday evening. Very few cars on the roads. People are working from home, walking in our neighborhood while keeping a distance from others. No stores except grocery stores, warehouse type stores are open, also gas stations, banks, pharmacies and post offices are open. Take out only is available at restaurants.

I’m in a small town in central B.C. Canada. Most of our non essential businesses are closed or open with reduced hours. All restaurants are either closed or take out and delivery only. Our schools are on their first week of a 2 week spring break and we haven’t been told what happens after that point yet. I’m assuming they’ll remain closed though.

You know... people suck.

We went for a walk, just the two of us. Saw a lot of people walking, but everyone keeping their distance. Then we get to the park near a high school. 20-30 guys playing flag football.

It just really pissed me off, so I called 311 who told me to call 911. 911 said they were getting calls from all over the city about people ignoring the rules. Mayor Lightfoot is going to end up closing all the parks and our lakefront due to these clowns.

But anyways, be uncool, call the cops if you see groups congregating and you are in a city not allowing it!!!

The sooner we all comply the sooner this will be over!!!

Orlando, Florida. Beginning tomorrow, all non-essential businesses will be closed and all non-essential personnel are to stay at home. We've been under an 11 pm to 5 am curfew for several days.

Restaurants are allowed to do take out only.

The shelves in the grocery stores are picked clean. This includes most meats, eggs and frozen meals.

People are out walking and biking in the evenings, but I don't see kids out playing.

Restaurants are allowed to do takeaway and delivery here and I’m really torn between supporting local businesses versus preparing all my own food for certainty with minimising possible exposure routes (rarely order takeaway anyway).

Athens, Ga. We are supposed to be under a stay at home order with only "essential" businesses being open. I work for a 2 person IT company that services Docs and Farms so we are considered essential. I only work 2 days a week so I'm at work. When I came to work there was just about the same amount of traffic as is normal for any time that UGA is closed. Most restaurants have figured out how to do curb side service and the only things I can see that are closed are the small businesses in our downtown area. This is a college town but they did close down all the bars. My local wine shop has managed to stay open because she actually special orders food and sells it and cheese so she is considered a food store. She does have to limit the amount of people in the shop to less than 10 and is is doing curb side delivery to people who want it and has arranged with a local food delivery service to deliver anything except alcohol. She did have to stop her monthly wine tastings and her Fromage Fridays where she sold cheese plates. I haven't been in there because it is a tiny shop and I can't image how anyone could stay at least 6 feet apart. I'm stocked up on wine anyway.

I love Athens! My DD is a level 10 gymnast and is dying to be a Georgia Gymdog! She did the camp last summer and is slated to go back this summer as well as long as she is able to get in the gym prior to camp. I so enjoy my time in Athens while she is working out- such a great small town! It reminds me a bit of my college days at UVa. :).

We live in Charlotte, NC but outside of the city and in a rural community near the border of SC. The county where Charlotte proper is located has had quite a lot of cases and yesterday they did a stay at home order which starts tomorrow am. The county where we live has had maybe 10 cases and has not taken these steps. They are encouraging people to distance but it varies how much people are participating. Schools are out, gyms are closed and starting tomorrow in the majority of the city it is only essential service providers out and about. Curbside or pick up food only, everyone works from home. Based on traffic that I have seen while taking my runs or bike rides I would say it appears that many are not abiding by distancing. The parking lot of our local grocery store is always packed and tonight while riding I was shocked at the traffic on the main road.

Massachusetts. Also under a stay at home advisory. Only essential businesses open (but very long list of what is considered essential). Restaurants take out only.

I’m in a suburban/rural town and most people seem to be heeding the advice and staying home and taking it all in stride. If this is the hardest thing we are asked to do, we can’t complain.

Last night I did learn about three people we know who just tested positive. So it is getting closer to home in the sense that we now have faces to go along with the number count..

May everyone stay healthy!

I'm in Massachusetts too. Our town usually has a very friendly & peaceful air to it, but these past two weeks, it's zombieville. Scarce, anxious, antisocial, and unfriendly. No smiles from strangers-everyone just giving blank or concerned looks to each other as they social distancing walk by. I just went to the local market today for my first time in a week. I felt cautious and nervous & it was all just very strange.

Hi Mackel: I live in N. Minnesota close to the Canadian border. We are doing the same things in our town. The local shopping center is closed. Only grocery stores, Target, Walmart, and filling stations are open. There are rumors that local government agencies are going to be closing soon, ie: license bureaus, Social service, etc. Sounds like people all over the globe are doing what they can during this trying time. On a lighter note: I just wonder what my hair will look like without a cut and shaping every 6 weeks, Ick, probably a brillo pad, LOL! As far as outdoor activities, we still have a lot of snow and all the lakes are iced over. You can walk around downtown for exercise though.

Are you along a Lake Superior?

It is a cute little town but I dislike the government so much that when we bought a house we made sure we bought in the county next door. I work in Athens and have lived in and around it for the past 42 years. It really was a nice little town when I moved here (my parents met at UGA and needed a home in States when they lived overseas so bought here, most of us kids came to live near them). Both my parents went to UGA, one of my brothers, my honey and my son all went. Unfortunately, downtown has become one big party place with bars every other building. We tend to stay away during football season, you can't get through town and only go into the downtown area if we have to during the times UGA is in session.

North ATL suburb, fairly rural. I get out to stores every other day, and it's definitely light. I do wonder if Home Depot and Lowe's are going to have to close to non-contractors after this weekend, the weather is nice, and people are going to want to work in their yard. Depot has put up barricades and ropes to direct people to one door for entry, so they can limit people in the stores.

Houses here are on 1 acre or more, so it's hard to really get a feel for activity, but we can hear kids playing and whatnot, and we send our kids out to play as much as we can, it has really helped... we had a horribly wet February/March, so getting outside right now is a big deal. The kids and wife have taken walks thru the hood, which is nice... I am stuck at my desk for a bit longer than them.

We mostly prepare our own meals, but we also feel like we should support our local restaurants, so I've ordered delivery a couple times. I hear that some are just going to close shop for a couple weeks, as take out isn't covering the bills.

Well, it's 7:45 am and the neighbor's gardeners are blowing, cutting and edging. Just another day in the suburbs right now

No, we are not along Lake Superior. We about 100 miles south of the border with basically nothing between us and the border but prairie and lakes, LOL. We love it up here in the National forest area; lots of clean lakes, tourism, fresh air and a slower pace of life. Do you live in Mn?

Moncton, NB, Canada. We have been in a state of essential services only for 10 days or so now with a stay at home order in effect. Our provincial borders to the other provinces in Canada are on lockdown, only those who are essential are let through, if you live in the province you are let in but with a strict order that you self isolate at home for 14 days and have to go directly home with no stopping for supplies etc. Working from home for the past few weeks now. Most everyone here is at home and seem to be abiding by the orders. Only groceries and gas stations open along with some drive thrus and the liquor and weed stores. All the stores have limits to how many people can be in store at once and even if outside waiting to get in you have to stay 6 feet apart. I haven't been out for groceries for over a week since my daughter and her boyfriend are self-isolating at our house after finally getting out of Europe (They had left in early November, long before this was even a thing and originally were only to return in mid-April but when things started getting real serious in early March we managed to book new flights for them for last week, was the longest two weeks of my life waiting to get them out of there!). Stay safe everyone!
