Stroller naps

Neither of my babies would nap in the stroller without a lot of effort. Both would sleep in the car easily but then never sleep at home afterwards, even if it was like 5 minutes! I used to keep Dum Dums in the car to keep them awake for the ride home once they were old enough! But we would slightly recline the stroller and pull down the shade and the walk. And walk. And walk. For 30-45 minutes. Eventually... they would sleep. We learned that then we could park them, but it was better to do so in a somewhat noisy place. The background noise was like white noise. We liked walkways, no one stops and is super loud, but there’s constant activity, so even if they did, it absorbs better. When we went somewhere quiet, someone loud would come by and wake them up. We’d get maybe 45-60 minutes of a nap this way. It wasn’t a ton, but enough to get a second wind.

Thank you! He doesn’t sleep in the car very often. He actually hates the car and pretty much cries the whole way. I could see how the park noise would help with sleep because he hates silence when he sleeps. He wakes instantly when we turn his white noise off. If it’s his first nap and it’s 45-60 minutes that wouldn’t be so bad because his second nap can be at the cabin and hopefully will be a longer one. He’s taken a 20 minute nap recently for his first nap lol. Then his second was over 2 hours

We have a pack n play at home but no mattress. I’ll ask Dh how he feels. Are they expensive?

the one I ordered from Walmart was $50. So not super cheap but in my mind worth it for decent sleep. We’ve used it a bunch and for 3 trips to disney world.

Maybe we’ll go ahead and get one. We’re planning to renew our APs and stay later this year a couple times so it’s probably worth it. Do you know the brand of the one you got?

My older child, I decided that I would teach her to nap in the stroller by going for long walks around when she would take her nap. I'd take work calls while I walked and we would just walk until she passed out. She already "knew the drill" by the time Disney came around.

It was a lot harder later at night going back after dinner, when she'd just want to be held by one of us and we'd be juggling her, ourselves, the stroller, and standing on the crowded bus. By the end of a week, my back was killing me.

I bought it off Walmart online and it is NapYou Pack N Play Mattress, Convenient Fold w/ Bonus Easy Handle Carry Bag. I’ve been using it at various times for over a year and like it. I just bought sheets that fit a pack and play and put that on the mattress and then put the mattress right in the pack and play.

This is probably really stupid to ask and very dependent on the child but I wanted to ask anyway. Is there any trick to getting a baby/toddler to sleep in the stroller at the park? I’m full on expecting to go back to the resort for naps but it would be so nice to be able to stay. He’ll be 12 months when we go in May and has never slept in a stroller before. Do you just have to have “that” kid or is there anything we can do to help him? We plan to bring his pacifier and portable white noise machine but I have a feeling there’s no chance he’ll sleep in the park.

If "Ellen's" attraction was still open !!! :))

Thanks! I found it on Amazon

I would place a cotton sheet in the stroller - cooler to be on and more comfortable to be lying in. Find a shaded spot for a while if he does fall asleep/walk around/in and out of shops if too hot out. If they get a decent nap in the stroller, you luck out. They won't be cranky and you can stay longer.

My grandchildren rarely fell asleep in the stroller. My son and dil did take afternoon breaks and hoped they did not fall asleep until they got in the room :) - they actually all took naps. (twin boys and older girl) - they all needed it. They do use a mattress in the pack and plays for the room. I have one too for my house. Much more comfortable. They even bring their air purifier/noise machines.

Good luck and have fun.

I’m thinking he’ll get a much better nap at the cabin than in the stroller (if that even happens). We plan to bring his sound machine and I’m gonna show Dh the pack n play mattress later tonight. Thanks!

We normally hold him to get him to sleep so I could totally see him falling asleep like that. Do they ever get overly cranky because they can’t fall asleep in the stroller? That’s what I’m worried about. I don’t want it to ruin our day

So I learned the hard way with my then 20 month old. If the stroller was reclined the whole way back and the shade was down, she'd go out like a light. Our last day there, she was soooooooooooo tired, she slept practically through lunch. Thankfully Tiffins was slow and they let her stay in the stroller.

He hates the stroller reclined even a little bit. I feel like he’d have to be asleep already and then we could recline it

My kid only takes stroller naps so we have the opposite problem. But it helps that we have a travel stroller that fully reclines, with a large shade.

What about a baby carrier? It works occasionally for me, and you don't have to worry about dealing with getting a sleepy baby out onto a bus. But again, motion loving contact napper over here :)

lol your son sounds like my DD. She doesn’t like the car (although she is better now that she is older) but she never would fall asleep in the car and hates being reclined in the stroller and never went to sleep in a baby carrier. I swear she had a huge fear of missing out that she refuses to sleep. It took over a year at daycare before she would sleep more than 30 minutes. I think she is still one of the first kids up usually. But one great thing about her is as long as she is entertained she will generally be in an okay mood and a 10-15 minute nap is all she needs to get out of a bad mood.

Haha mine doesn’t sleep well on the go because he’s too curious. He’s constantly looking around and “talking” about things. We do occasionally do a baby carrier but he hasn’t slept in one since about 4 months. Might have to try again!

That’s mostly how he is too. He doesn’t want to miss anything and generally is pretty happy. I keep him on a schedule just to make sure he naps but I wouldn’t be surprised if he could go much longer without a nap. I know he’s tired though because he ends up sleeping for at least an hour if not 2. I’m wondering if we can kind of push him to stay awake a little longer in the mornings. Rope drop is gonna be rough for all of us since MK is opening at 8. We’ll have to be at the boats at the fort by around 6:30 and he normally wakes at 7 for the day.

we dropped the morning nap at 12 months and went to just napping at lunch time...it wasn’t so much our choice as daycares choice cause she changed rooms and that was there schedule but it worked out. One nap verse 2 makes disney easier cause you can get lots done in the morning before nap time. This trip I’m gonna try to push her to take naps in the stroller but that may backfire on me. We leave tomorrow and I’m not bringing the baby carrier cause it’s just her and I going and already have too much packed that I’m going to leave the carrier at home and hope I’m not making a mistake

He’s definitely not ready for 2 naps yet. I’m kind of glad though. It gives me some time to myself. He usually takes his first nap 2 hours after waking up for the day so around 9 or 9:30. But if we’re waking early for rope drop I’m not sure he’ll make it that long. I hope he does but I don’t want to make him overtired and cranky

I definitely remember the two nap days well. DD only took about an hour each of the naps though. I prefer the one nap cause she will take a 2-2.5 hour nap, which is nice. My DD goes to bed early though. She just recently started staying up til 7-7:15 pm but she wakes up at 6:30am. When we went to Disney, she woke up even earlier and was ready to leave the room but the parks weren’t opening as early as they are now so she was not happy to have to wait to leave and go to the parks.

Have fun taking your son to WDW. My daughters first trip was at 13 months and we had a blast. She loved it’s a small world and picking up leaves (they were doing that a lot at daycare at the time). Her next trip was at 16 months and then she loved haunted mansion and seeing all the bubbles from the bubble blowers that kids have. This trip she is 20 months and it will be her last trip until masks go away (she is unlikely to cooperate with wearing a mask at 2) so we are trying to make this trip the best one yet. This is really a fun age to take kids (yes, stressful at times) and I’m so glad to have these memories with her even if she won’t remember it as she is older.

I’m really excited to just see what he thinks of it all. He started walking about a month ago so it’ll be fun to let him kind of lead us around for a bit and see what he’s most interested in. Our must do rides are the carousel, dumbo, and the tea cups. Anything else is a bonus
