That preschool teacher needs to chill! What did she miss out on? Finger painting? Scissor cutting practice? LOL! We have taken the kids out for 10 days every year and tell the principal when and where we will be going. I really don't care if they excuse it or not, though they have all but one year out of 6. When I told the principal in April that we would be 6 days late starting school after the EB PC repo she said that there was no way she could teach the kids as much in school as they were going to learn on the cruise and experience going through the canal. As a bonus, she told me that until they set foot on school grounds that school year they were not absent...just no shows...which is why we decided not to rush home on Labor day and saved over $400 in airfare. Sometimes school administrators need to have a little more common sense than they do IMO. Most districts do not start doing the NCLB testing nonsense until 3rd grade so until then, it really doesn't matter when they miss school. Actually, when we considered doing the WB PC repo I called the head of the end of grade testing at the school board to find out the dates for that year and she told me that if it was her family, she would go on the cruise and have her kid take the make up test after we got back because the experience would be amazing.

AMEN!!!!! Couldn't have said it better myself!:)

Hi Everyone...:wave2:

:welcome: to all of the new people!

I wanted to let everyone know that the website is updated from all the information I have received thus far. If there is a mistake or your information is missing please let me know. If you still have to submit the information please visit www.transatlanticpirates.com and submit through there.

Also, if you do not currently have a photo in the roll call and would like one please email the photo to: rollcall@transatlanticpirates.com

The Fish Extender Gift Exchange list is growning...you don't want to miss out.

Secret Mickey
Anyone interested in doing a "Secret Mickey" I have gotten a couple of emails about and wanted to those it would there. We really don't need that many people, just an even number. I have never done this on past cruises so if anyone has and wants to explain it to the group that would be great.

Thanks!
Stephanie

For the EB TA a lot of people were hoping to upgrade bc the ship was empty. They were charging the exact difference from the published fares at the time. Those fares were still good but no discount from what you saw online before leaving.

We got an incredible military discount last time $599 for 1st/2nd and $99 3rd/4th to start and everything else was extremly discounted too. They would not offer the military discount at the port tought, just the published fares at the time.

So if rates go low, try to get what you want before you go to the port. I know at other times DCL does upgrades at the port but they were being pretty strict for the EB TA.

We got upgraded on the WB TA last time for free , from a cat 6 to a cat 4 and we didnt even ask for it ...but we knew about the upgrade prior to leaving ...so there was no extra fees for us

Cool :thumbsup2

We tried everything at the port hoping to upgrade to get our rooms closer but it did not work. It was too expensive compared to if I would have done it before we left. Our rooms worked out great though. Grandma keeps the girls for us so they got the balcony and DH & I got the inside room alone. Worked for us!

I think they discounted ours so much that they were done discounting at that point. I know someone who booked 2 12's and they got 2 connecting 9's and they did not pay for it. That was done before hand too.

Hey Stephanie! I have been a part of the Secret Mickey on previous cruises and it is alot of fun. It is like the Secret Santa. Everyone is pre-assigned (matched up) to another DISer.....ladies to ladies, men to men, kids to kids. During the cruise you deliver your gifts to your Secret Mickey via Fish Extender, outside door, put in cabin if you can find the room steward, etc. Usually on the last sea day we have a meet to find out who our Secret Mickey was and to thank them for the gifts. The number of gifts given and the $$ amount is determined before the cruise but you are free to give how ever many you want and to spend what you want. Since this will be a long cruise, you will have lots of time to deliver the gifts.

I would be more than happy to help with this if you need a volunteer. Maybe I can recruit my dear friend Laura :rolleyes1 aka Eeyorelvr10 to help me.....she was in charge of this on the recent EBPC in August.

Sounds like fun! That would be great if you wanted to head it up too! :cheer2: You can put us down. You can match Craig and I up to someone and my girls 9 & 5 at the time if any other children what to exchange.

THANKS!

THANKS!

I would be glad to head it up! I will need to know a few things about each person so that I can then give it to your Secret Mickey (SM) so they can buy appropriate gifts. Maybe you can then put it in the website for easy access.

If you would like to take part in the Secret Mickey (SM) the just PM me and I will add you to the list.

Here is what I need to know ~

Real Name
DIS Name - or main DISers name
Cabin Number - for delivery of gifts
Ages of children - if children are participating
Likes - such as color, scents, foods, tv shows/movies, sports, etc...
Dislikes - allergies
Favorite Disney character
Hobbies / Interests

Anything that you can tell about yourself that will help in the buying of gifts will be most helpful.

I would recommend a minimum of 5 gifts with at least one nice gift and a $30 max for the total of all gifts combined. If you choose to do more gifts, or just the minimum, that is up to you. The important thing is that you have fun! I encourage people to put ingenuity into their gifts and to hunt the bargain tables and racks for gifts that may qualify. There are lots of options out there.

Please PM or email me (disneyisme2002@yahoo.com) with your information and I will match you up with a Secret Mickey closer to the cruise date.....probably around June 2010!! This will allow you 2 or 3 months to buy your gifts before the cruise. I hope that you will consider joining...this is going to be fun! We will find out who our SM is on one of our last sea days....to be determined at a later date. :goodvibes

Thank you all so much, you have been a great help!!

I did not understand her preschool teachers attitude either to be honest. We won our 7 day Western we are taking in 40 days (love saying that lol) and her teacher last year was just so excited for her! Katie was developmentally delayed and they had diagnosed her with autism at 2. Well her testing this past May shows no more issues and that the autism was a misdiagnosis even though she still has a few things that bother her ( smells are very powerful to her, she can smell a dirty diaper 4 blocks away I swear!) and the only therapy she is receiving still is her speech therapy...I dunno, maybe someone stole all her rum!
Well DH said to wait and see and if it goes alright and if I fall in love with cruising like I think I will, we will book it onboard. I had to booking form all ready to go last night online and he made me wait lol
I am getting exited at the prospect of another adventure!

We have the TRAITOR's DINING! Love that! :goodvibes

OK .... a secret mickey sounds fun, but surely others like me are not the best of packers. In fact, I suck pretty bad, but my husband is worse. He must pack his entire bathroom and closet. Which, I might tell you, is the sole reason we book a Cat 3 -- 2 people/2 bathrooms. That math is the only math that works for us. So, my point is, I am guessing there is no convenient grocery stop in Barcelona like we're so spoiled with on our way to Pt. Canaveral. And really (finally getting to my point here), how do you pack all the secret mickey stuff when flying Internationally?

And, random question: What is the Magic doing after we get back to Pt. Canaveral? The first cruise I see after we bring the Magic home is a 10/16 Western. Have I missed it? I could be talked into a 3rd week aboard the Magic.

Not done yet: do we have a cabin crawl scheduled? I would love to see what a "sideways" v. regular cat 11 looks like, a navigator's verandah. I would love to see a non-midship cat 3. Of course I would love to see a Cat 1 and 2 as well. Is anyone organizing this? If not, is there any interest here?

As far as the gifts for SM...they can be small and compact for traveling. I have received small gifts like keychain, flashlight, journal and pen, unbrella, pirate book, small stuffed Beanie baby, etc.....they do not need to be big and expensive. We will all be traveling to Europe the same way and everyone will be limited on suitcase space. Just be creative and use the next 1 1/2 years to think of things that you can use as gifts.

I have a Cat 5 cabin and would be willing to open it up to tours if needed.

Hi everyone,
No traitors here we are Captains dining:woohoo: :woohoo:

Secret Mickey sounds like fun to me, I'll send you my info soon.

This is shaping up to be a very magical cruise, you have such great ideas to make this cruise extra speical. Thanks everyone for all the great ideas so far.:thumbsup2

We have been going down this path with DD for 2 years now...we have ruled out autism but she is PDD/NOS with extreme sensory issues (smells, touch, sound) are over sensative to her! I know exactly what you mean!

I never thought of using that for the storage space they provide! :thumbsup2:
Thanks for the tip!

We brought 14 suitcases on the last TA! It was hysterical! I will never make that mistake again. It was my first cruise and I brought EVERYTHING but the kitchen sink. We travel much light this year and we did not even have to fly to get to the ship! I did however have one suitcase devoted just to very large chocolate bars! ;)
