We have been going down this path with DD for 2 years now...we have ruled out autism but she is PDD/NOS with extreme sensory issues (smells, touch, sound) are over sensative to her! I know exactly what you mean!

Our DS (4) has been in speech therapy for 2 years now. He is very senstive to smells and taste.. He's not been diagnosed but I would imagine he's pretty darn close to PDD/NOS... He also has some OCD tendencies. Although most people wouldn't notice.

YEAH! :cool1: :cool1:

It has been brought to my attention that I should let everyone know that I will be drawing names from a hat. I will keep all genders together. All names will go into a hat, I will then draw from there and randomly assign everyone a SM. Please do not ask to be assigned to a certain person as this can get out of control and be confusing. If alot of children sign up, I may need help with them.

Hope this helps with any questions about assigning SM's.

Laura has graciously agreed to help me with this project. You may also PM her with your sign up list.....eeyorelvr10.....

Thanks everyone!

Cabin Cral sounds great. We have a Secret Porthole and a sideways 11 that we are more then happy to share. I can add that to the website too.

I have a 'secret' verandah Cat 7 (the navigators verandah that is really just a partially obscured cat 6), glad to add it to the crawl.

OK - sorry to jump in - I was skimming and noticed this - in all seriousness - can an adults be diagnosed with this later in life??? The last 5 years, I've noticed that I have become EXTREMELY sensitive to smells, be they diapers, perfume, body odor, anything and everything. My mom says my sniffer is on overtime. And the OCD tendancies that my kids tease me about - I used to think were cute, now I'm wondering - especially since they call me Mrs. Monk.

The other day I took my DD to give blood. I was sitting at the snack table and before I knew it - all the cans and juices were puts into patterns. DD got up from the table and gave me this look and asked if I had put all the juices that way. We laughed about it but inside, I cringed everytime one of the other patrons would take a can and I would sit on my hands to try and stop myself from "fixing" the cans. Please tell me this is manageable?

My senses, especially smell have gotten much stronger later in life, expecially after having kids! My OCD has gotten worse too, go figure! :rotfl: If you find a way to manage it let me know!!!

Ok so the website is updated...

I have changed all the dining times that I had and added the ones I have received this morning.

There is a page listing those who are doing the B2B cruises. You can find the link on the top of the roll call page.

There is also a link to a page for the Secret Mickey which can be accessed through the first page or the gift exchange page.

Thanks!
Stephanie

I would imagine it could be. I can see something like OCD getting worse the older you get. I get more routine in nature. My sister has a highten sense of smell to the extreme and she was diagnosed bipolar in her 20's. I hope my DS doesn't follow that route. That was a LOOOOOONG road to diagnosis.

So, my point is, I am guessing there is no convenient grocery stop in Barcelona like we're so spoiled with on our way to Pt. Canaveral. And really (finally getting to my point here), how do you pack all the secret mickey stuff when flying Internationally?

And, random question: What is the Magic doing after we get back to Pt. Canaveral? The first cruise I see after we bring the Magic home is a 10/16 Western. Have I missed it? I could be talked into a 3rd week aboard the Magic.

Not done yet: do we have a cabin crawl scheduled? I would love to see what a "sideways" v. regular cat 11 looks like, a navigator's verandah. I would love to see a non-midship cat 3. Of course I would love to see a Cat 1 and 2 as well. Is anyone organizing this? If not, is there any interest here?

As far as the gifts for SM...they can be small and compact for traveling. I have received small gifts like keychain, flashlight, journal and pen, unbrella, pirate book, small stuffed Beanie baby, etc.....they do not need to be big and expensive. We will all be traveling to Europe the same way and everyone will be limited on suitcase space. Just be creative and use the next 1 1/2 years to think of things that you can use as gifts.

I have a Cat 5 cabin and would be willing to open it up to tours if needed.

Hi Guys! Its Laura AKA eeyorelvr10

Let me pass on some of my experiences to help you all:

1. The more info you put in your entry to Pam or myself is better for your SM. Remember, if you don't give out info, you may get some gift where your left wondering. I hope I don't offend anyone but the most successful SM's are the ones that have been given a long list of things to work with. I would suggest that you include a favorite hobby, color, collections, etc. Anything you like - for instance, using me as an example - I love Wizard of Oz, I would put green, Oz, photography, souvenirs.

which brings up another point:

2. Don't forget the option of picking things up from any port of call. What I have done in the past is take one nice gift - usually the last one (for reveal or just before) and then pick up some others in port. It doesn't have to be anything big, just a small momento as sometimes we tend to forget to pick ourselves up something. I.E. - on the EB PC - I picked up local "candy carmel lollipops" for my SM. Just a small inexpensive momento from the terminal. Nothing superexpensive yet a reminder from the port. A magnet, a small writing pen, etc.

3. Also, if you are allergic to anything, i.e. - peanuts - best to please state that up front. I had a case where one of the persons on the SM was deathly allergic to peanut and by-products of peanuts and you'd be surprised at what some stuff had in it - products of peanuts, etc.

4. If you prefer to have your gifts from the ports, state that. I had a lady specifically ask for small trinkets from the ports. She liked the idea of being surprised.

5. We ask, OK - Pam asks (:teeth:) that if for some reason you cannot deliver a gift by the 3rd-4th day that you please contact Pam for an explanation. I had a case where one child did not receive one gift until the 12th day of the cruise. It was a bit sad, but it worked out in the end. The SM made up for it at the end but the poor child went through the whole cruise thinking that their SM didn't want them. To avoid this, please attempt some kind of contact, whether it be a small note or a gift.

I had a fantastic SM - Thanks P! ;) - she thoroughly surprised me and was so gracious - she wrote a note to me on each gift and intrigued me even more as to her identity. Gave me some wonderful ideas on how to handle my next SM. (Names have been blocked out to protect their identity in case they sign up again!) In fact, one time, I opened my door as she was about to deliver and I did not even guess the reason she was there. It was my :headache: moment. But you got me! ;)

6. If you draw a blank on info for yourself, don't be afraid to add on to it later. Just send a quick PM to Pam and it can be passed on down/added later. Remember, the more info you have, the more custom gifts you will get catered to what you want.

7. If for some reason, you want to join as a couple, please do so. You will be assigned as "one person" meaning our SM will have the option of buying either one of you a gift. Some ladies did this on the cruise I was on as they knew their spouse would not participate but they wanted them to be included. It worked out well, but keep in mind that your SM is not obligated to get both of you a gift - this gives them an option to get one or the other or switch off between the two. If this is the case, then you will also need to provide some likes and dislikes for them also.

Above all else, this is for fun, is lots of fun and makes for many wonderful and Magical memories. If you have any concerns, just ask Pam or myself. We are both full of ideas and can help guide anyone should they need it.

Please don't let the weight restrictions stop you from signing up. There are lots of places in Barcelona that you can buy trinkets from. Las Ramblas is just a short taxi ride away and they have numerous stores right by the waterfront and along the street for souvenir gifts. Gibralter is also the same way. Don't know about the other stop as they are new stops. But its amazing the creativity of some people - I'm constantly amazed at the goodheartedness of everyone and the thought they put into gifts. They put me to shame!

So please, if your considering it - please do it - its tons of fun and a wonderful way to get to meet many new friends. In fact, this is one way that I came to know Tracy (my SM from 11-Night) and P (from EB PC) and a few others. You just never know when you find a special friend - huh Pam? ;)

Remember - send your detailed info to Pam :teeth: and she'll handle it all! ;)

You don't know how good it makes me feel that others feel like I am. I have to wonder, is it normal or am I just going

The good think is that you know that it has been diagnosed. My sister wasn't diagnosed until her late 30's early 40's. Of course, now we are all aware that we have a tendancy to it and it has helped curb some of my kids tendancies. Not all, as kids will be kids, but you know, I'm aware that they will experiment but if they are aware of how it can impact manic depression or bipolar, they may think twice about doing it.

Being Bipolar is not easy but being scared and unaware of the diagnosis is ever more scary. So now you know my secret - I'm either OCD or bipolar. I'll let you all decide when you meet me! ;) But note - I am a nice lady! Just ask Pam - huh Pam? :rotfl2:

I could not have asked for a better friend than the one I have found in Laura! Who knew 2 years ago that I would be traveling the world every year with her!!

Laura is a very nice lady!!! :rotfl: .... Just dont make her mad or you will have to overlook her when she goes all crazy on you!!! :lmao:

So I think I have DH convinced on going on this cruise. It will be DH, me, our 2 boys and my mother. We are more than likely getting 1 category 6 room and 1 category 12..or something like that. We are trying to find a way to get airfare for under 700-600pp. Any suggestions?

This will be our first cruise as a family (DH and I went on a short 4 day RCCL a long time ago) and first time in Europe. I am beginning to wonder if we are crazy for doing this. I am super excited about doing a Disney cruise. Our boys will be 9 and almost 7 at the time of the cruise.

I do have a few weird questions. How good is the internet connection out at sea? We are hoping to email homework every couple days. How many children will be on board? Will my children have other children to play with?

I found a website that specializes in international flights in a priceline sort of way www.vayama.com. They don't tell you the airline, but do give you the times.
We still think we're crazy for doing this, but what the heck. My son who will be 7 by the cruise told me he wants to go to Paris since we will be so close. Why did I get him a globe? :headache: So we will probably miss another week of school.:cool1: As others have said the internet was slow:surfweb:, but I only used it to print boarding passes.

Wow, I am finally caught up. I promised that I would not post on this thread until I had read all of it.
I am Corinna, DW to Graham (DH of dolphingirl47) and the DIS nut in the family. This will be our 4th Disney Cruise. Our first cruise was the 5 night special cruise on the Magic on September 1st and we both fell in love with cruising. It's nice to see some familiar names from this cruise :wave2: Nordkin and Boosgram.
I am a certified elementary school teacher and would be only to happy to help out with study hall or similar. I no longer teach. Instead I work for an international airline as a team leader. Sadly my employer flies neither to Barcelona nor to Florida. I have read some posts were people were suggesting buying return tickets and then no showing for the return part. I would like to ask you to please let the airline know once you have arrived at your destination that you won't be using the return portion. We do this all the time as well that we sell customers return fares as they are often cheaper than one ways. If the customer then cancels the return part of the ticket, we can sell that seat on or give it to somebody on a wait list. If the customer no shows, it is then too late to give the seat to somebody else and people who might be desperate to get on that flight will have missed out.
I am up for the FE Exchange either individual or as part of a team.
dolphingirl47

Hey, there's something to organize for a sea day. Homework Session. A collaborative effort to have all the DIS children to prepare a trip report to take back to school. :lmao: Ok, so that probably won't happen, but if only everyone could each put in their ideas and put in all together into one report. Man, the teachers would think each kid was really observant.

As for the RT Airfare... Do the airlines refund you any money if they sell that ticket? If they offered some incentive to the traveler not using their return ticket, then maybe tell them, otherwise toughpirate:

Hi Corinna,

So glad you're joining us; I still can't believe we're booked! It's wonderful that those of us who have never been to Europe have so many great DISers to guide us. :worship:

I think TheCooksLuvDisney were on our 5-nighter, too. True, Dan and Cheryl?

 Thank you for remembering us:goodvibes

Dont think we will get lucky with an upgrade this time , even though I think the ship will have less people on it ...We have connecting 9's so I doubt there will be a move up , but im good with it ..

By the way Steph , do we have a list yet of what dining everyone has ??...

We usually do

Captains Dining = Early Dining

Crew's Dining(traitors dining) = Late Dining ...

Okay , Who has Captains Dining and Who has Crew Dining ????? Speak up you Pirate and Princesses and make it be known if your in Captains Dining or Crew Dining....

We are doing late dining, it just works out better for us. We don't normally eat until later in the evening anyway when we're at home so it doesn't matter that dinner isn't until 8ish or so. I enjoyed the late dining on my first cruise and I'm glad we're sticking with it this time too! :thumbsup2

Katie is also ppd-nos with sensory integration disorder, hence the smell and taste/texture issues.
My ped believes it is hereditary, my DH is extremely OCD about things and has routines and had the same speech issues and difficulties with textures as a child, only 47 years ago they didn't dxs that, you were just "different".

We have a nephew with Asperger's, and he had speech issues as a child. They finally labeled him with it when he was 15. He just graduated Valedictorian in May.

Nice to know their are others who deal with it everyday...it is amazing how many kids have this.

Wow, I feel like a part of the cruise already! Cant wait to make it official!

That's because in spirit - you are one of us - you just need the paperwork - besides, we are all a bit certifiable ourselves - that's why we get along so well.

So to make light of an issue - I am either OCD, with tendancies of depression or I'm a genius???? See - I always knew I was smarter than the average folk! ;) Got to love us - quirks and all and together - we are all normal. Its the normal ones that are weird! :rotfl2:
