Safe family neighborhoods near Disney?

Feralpeg- We are looking all over. Windermere seems to be a great area. I have a few houses saved that I'd love to view when we come look. I saw that Valencia has a west campus close by that offers a partnered program with UCF. I would be thrilled to be close to a good college, nice amenities and so close to the parks! What do you think about Winter Garden? Thank you!

I love Windermere, but would have no problem living in Winter Garden. I do most of my shopping at Winter Garden Village. There are a lot of new developments going in in the Horizons West development. It is going to be a beautiful area and just minutes from Disney property.

I am currently taking graphic design classes at Valencia ' s west campus. It takes me about 15 minutes to drive there depending on the time of day. My daughter is in their digital motion graphics program. Unfortunately, most of the classes for her program are only available on the east campus.

Depending on what your daughter is interested in, Valencia offers full BA/BS degrees in many subjects and also has the partnership with UCF I am very impressed with Valencia.

A question for those that have made the leap and moved down to work for Disney. How long did the hiring process take (I assume like any large organization things move the speed of molasses)? I'm looking at a full time salaried position and threw my hat in the ring on Monday to see what happens. A couple of days ago my dashboard on disney careers went from submitted to in progress (from step 1 of 8 to 2 of 8).

Just curious as I've been looking now at real estate in the area over the last few days...

First Best of Luck to you :-)

Unfortunately no one is going to be able to answer that for you. Even if through a PM someone were to ask what position you applied for and they are in the same exact role, it will vary tremendously the experience. Depending on so many things, not the least being company needs at the time , your dashboard could move quickly to the next stage or could seem to be stuck for a long time " in progress ".

2 pieces of advice Patience and don't buy and move on the hope you get hired.

Dgh1973, does your daughter have a specific major in mind? If you are nervous about her driving across town, she could take all her general classes at Valencia ' s campus closest to where you decide to live and do the rest at UCF layer.

Can anyone recommend a good quality homebuilder? I've been looking around online at new and 'newer' homes, partly for fun and partly in case we ever decide to jump on our daydream and head south. I see that Lennar is building a lot of new homes, but they have awful, terrible, horrible, reviews. Beazer seems to have troubles too. Any insights?

I live in celebration and was driving to winter garden this morning along hwy 429 they cleared a bunch of land and there are toll brothers signs on it. They are very good builders.

I think that's the new Lakeshore community. I've been receiving email updates from them since the community isn't expected to break ground until Fall. There isn't any pricing info listed yet, though, so I'm worried it'll be out of our range!

Thanks for the replies on the homebuilders. It's good to hear positives!

We live in Summerlake and in addition to all the construction going on in our subdivision, there are a bunch of builders currently selling along Lake Hancock Road.

Toll Brothers have beautiful homes, but they tend to be high dollar. Their new development on CR535 near Disney starts at $400k. The one off CR535 near Summerport starts at $800k.

Hi All! I just got downstairs from 'filming' this and thought I would share. Davenport is lookin pretty great! Boy I am glad we didn't move after June lol.

I watched Illuminations and 9 and literally camped (camping chair) on my balcony until it started so I would be sure not to miss it this time.

Ok, just got back downstairs and uploaded it. It's not perfect. I played with different zoom in and zoom outs, and at one point, my phone blew over (sorry!) but at least you know it's legit. I wish you could see the colors from here with your eyeballs! I saw SOTS at the parks and I'll see it again in person tomorrow, but there is something really neat about the colors from a distance. I wish you could join me! I thought about adding the Star Wars music to my video, but then again, it's so beautiful and breezy with the night sounds, so I didn't. Maybe I'll make another or feel free to add your own. This has to be one of my favorite things about moving here (besides the stunning sunrises - also overlooking the same horizon view) and being so close to the parks, that we can be there in 20 min.

Anyway, please enjoy. I recommend Theater mode in the Youtube viewing.

Twinprincess- That was awesome! Thanks so much for sharing!

Feralpeg- My daughter's major will be nursing. I do believe the west campus offers that and partners with UCF in a concurrent program. That would be a plus to living in Windermere or Winter Garden.

We've had several good showings on our house and a repeat showing to a couple that wants to bring family is upcoming. Praying for a contract! I'm believing June is our month!

Are you moving? Oops read that wrong and thought Peg was ...never mind!

OK, so since we just found out hubby can work from home and still keep his job from PA when we move to FL in a month or 2(woo-hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), it makes our rental search a bit easier in regards to choosing from various locations. I have several job offers around the Orlando area(one in Celebration for DCL, habve my interview on Fri., one in Dr. phillips, one near Oveido, etc).
I'd love to know which town you think is the best to live in, in regards to good schools, safety, affordability, proximity to Disney(I know, but my kids are so excited about that), is pet friendly and you can get a 4 bedroom rental for under $1700 a month.
We had narrowed it down to Ocoee, Oviedo, Clermont, Winter Park, Winter Garden, Dr. Phillips and Windermere. Am I missing any other places that you would choose if you could???

I think we are narrowed down to Windermere, Winter Garden and Clermont. Clermont is out a bit but seems to have nice amenities as a community. I've heard good about all the areas you've mentioned. Someone did say Oviedo was on the down swing? We had looked at Lake Nona also. I've heard good things about the area. I've been searching all the normal rental sites and also Craigslist. As always, use caution on CL, but I'm sure there are some reputable companies/people on there. I'd love to hear others opinions on your list!

I'm moving to FL from PA too!! I can't work from home though.. We can't even work from home when it snows and it's so treacherous to drive :(

I'm liking the same places as you are. I just can't wait to get there!!

Do any of these great neighborhoods close to WDW have/allow RV ports? (Think of an oversized carport for a 40 foot motorhome.). We live fulltime in an RV but are thinking about buying a small home, but we would need a port or garage for the coach. We know about Deer Creek RV Resort in Davenport. You all seem to live even closer to The Mouse. Thanks!

What is the deal with Champions Gate? I have only seen one or two houses tops that lease long term. I'd love to have my own lazy river access 24/7 LOL!

Dr. Phillips is the reallife neighborhood John Green uses in novel Paper Towns. In the novel, it's called Jefferson, named for orange juice magnate Dr. Jefferson Jefferson. Although in the novel, Dr. Jefferson wasn't a real doctor.

Oh wow, how interesting! My 18yo will flip out! She loves John Green. She is reading Paper Towns right now. She read his other book "Chasing Alaska" I think it was called and of course "Fault in Our Stars".

Looking for Alaska :)
