Running for Freedom(of the Seas) The Journey Begins Today!(Comments Welcome)

They clear your school grounds of snow!?! really? Our campus is the last place that gets cleared out after inclement weather. Last December's storm lingered on the school grounds until mid-March in the places where the sun doesn't hit. What a difference a coast makes. I'm sure glad they do for you so you have a break from the moving mat. :)

Laurie

Well all the roads and sidewalks are clear and since there wasn't too much snow, the parking lots are clear too. Our school is named Shenendehowa, which means great plains in some Native American language. It is basically a campus of 4 elementary, 3 middle and 2 high schools. All on about 10 acres, with about 2 miles of internal roadway. We have a lot of sports, so a lot of the fields are for soccer, lacrosse, field hockey etc. Since we get tons of snow each year, they are pretty good about clearing up.

Back to the treadmill tomorrow morning, UGH.

Are you guys getting the snow tonight? Puts a damper on tomorrows long runs!!!

The snow is supposed to miss us, we may get a dusting. I ran today, had to run on the TM, only did 5, should have done 11. May do 5 tomorrow on the TM. Also have to clean the house tomorrow for this weeks festivities. At least all my baking is now done.

We didn't get as much as was predicted but the wind is intense and blowing snow- looks like 8 tomorrow good thing I have it off.

Good for you making all those homemade goodies. We do xmas eve, only doing desserts this year and thank goodness for Costco! Ha!Ha!

Are you doing the meet at Pop at the 1/2? I am probably not because I am with a party of 8 and we need to do other things.Maybe we can plan to meet in the staging area before the race.I will be at OKW and taking the bus around 3:30 or so. Where are you staying again, I am sure you told me but ya know- 43 and lots going on!

Have a good one,
Linda

I am not going to the POP meeting, as we are with a large group too and are doing a group dinner at WPE on Fri night. We are staying at POFQ and taking the bus about the same time you are. Are you doing the race retreat? FIL and I are at DH's suggestion. Maybe we can meet at the staging area. My bib is 50064. Since I have not been before, I am not sure where we will be or how we would find each other! Let me know what you think. Hard to believe it is less than 3 weeks away!!

Keeping my fingers crossed that the predicted ice storm heading across the country doesn't materialize in your area...

Please enjoy your Christmas with your family and wishing you some good training runs while you're getting ready for your half in WDW! (It is so close now that I can't help but be excited for you! and a little envious too. Promise you'll say hello to my favorite mouse for me!)

May the holiday treats energize you and stay away from your figure!

Hi Veronica,
Well 2 weeks from today we leave. Are you going to do the 5k too on Friday? I can't remember.I am. I figure it is a warm up plus I did a really cool frame with my medal and my pictures last year so I bought 2 more of the frames for the 5k and the 1/2.

OK the staging area is pretty big but if we get there when we plan on it we can try to meet maybe just inside the gate.I think it is an arch, oh well you will see it because if memory serves me right you have to go through to get in.My bib is 43841.I am getting nervous- not sure why but I guess it is the unknown- weather, health etc...

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year- I am sure we'll talk before then.

5 miles today, supposed to do 9 on Sunday but may bump it up to 10 to make sure it gets done- please weather cooperate!

I'm not doing the 5k, we are going to Epcot on Friday.

Hope you had a good Christmas, ours is finally over now after 3 days of eating, drinking and being merry. LOL.

We will have to be on the lookout for each other at the entrance. We are doing the race retreat as well. When are you going to the expo? We are going on Thurs afternoon, like 1 or 2 pm.

So the three days of Christmas are finally over here. Much food and drink was consumed, not any of it necessarily good for me.

Hadn't run since Tuesday, but todays weather was warm for December, 40 degrees. We ran 7.5 in 1:28, not bad considering the first 2 miles were in the rain. And we had to dodge monster puddles and ice patches. But it felt soooooooo good to get outside and run. I didn't feel sore or anything, was able to pick up the pace at mile 5.

Food has been horrible of late, as is usual with holiday time. But we are ready to kick it up a notch before we go away.

I am looking forward to the half marathon and our cruise. I am not nervous about the race at all, I know I can go the distance, and I am so excited about running in Disney. Time to start packing!!

We are planning the expo for about the same time Thursday. We land at 10ish then head to OKW have lunch then head over there.

Oh the eating has not been good here either. After this trip it is seriously time for me to get serious about the weight loss.I can't seem to focus on the running- eating enough for fuel and diet too- I know just eat better but it doesn't work for me.Need carbs to run but too many for weight loss.

Good run you guys had.Ya the ice is great isn't it?
Is it spring yet? Light snow again today- hope for sun in Florida, last year 80s all week.

Linda

I hear ya Linda on the food and diet. People keep telling me I look like I have lost more weight, but I have actually gained. I cannot lose and train at the same time, it just doesn't work out. So once we are back from Disney and the cruise, I am back to WW and following it strictly. I am going to run one or two times per week, take Zumba or another class one night during the week. I will do free weights on Sunday, and on Fridays I am going to Dynamic Functional Strength Training, which is a kick butt, butt kicking class.

I have set a new goal for myself. Following the Disney half this year to commemorate my 40th birthday, I will embark on a 5 year plan to run the Disney full for my 45th birthday. Yes it is a long way off, but a)I need to lose 50 lbs b)I want to run more halfs and work on time and c)I am going to need to save up money for another trip. So there it is, in writing, for someone, anyone to hold me accountable.

OK Veronica I am holding you accountable!!! Me too.I did my full so I am not going to do that again- way too hard to train here in this weather for that distance for me.

I wll be cutting my running down to 2 days a week but increasing the intensity not miles hoping to burn fat.My body has gotten used to the long distance paces and will not burn effectively.

Do you leave for the port right after the race? Where is your cruise going? Wishing you the great weather we had- oh you could not beat it.

Linda

A full marathon? Whew! You have my admiration. :thumbsup2

We are cruising on the Freedom of the Seas on Sunday, so after the race we are going to spend the day at MK, go to bed early on Sat. night and take FIL back to the airport on Sunday (he is not going on the cruise) before we head out to Port Canaveral. We are doing the Western Caribbean-Labadee (private island) Ocho Rios, Jamaica; Georgetown, Grand Cayman; and Cozumel Mexico. We are looking forward to getting away from these cold temperatures and snow and warming ourselves in the sun!!

OMG Veronica we just came back from Grand Cayman and Cozumel. We loved GC, Cozumel was OK.Are you doing excursions or on your own? We were on our own. That was great, we got off the boat, got a taxi then headed to the beaches.Let me know I can give you some pointers.

Linda

Have a great cruise! I am a cruise fanatic myself (71 on Disney and 4 on RCCL) and will be heading to the Western Caribbean in March. I will go to Boatswains in Grand Cayman which will be good water exercise...not sure yet what to do in Cozumel but will be doing lots of walking in Key West (that's Disney's itinerary).

Enjoy that sun and warmth! I hope you have awesome weather for the cruise.

This is our 8th cruise, 4th time to the western caribbean, so we have really been there, done that for all the islands. We have no excursions planned, as we are really going low key this time. Plus with the weather we are unsure of how warm it will be, what we want to do.

We aren't even doing the formal nights, I just want to go and relax, take it easy.

Mmmm, a relaxing cruise...that sounds so nice! That is how we are on Nassau days as we usually do the 4 night trip to Nassau and Disney's island. We just pretend Nassau is a sea day most of the time. Hopefully it will be warm enough...I'll send good thoughts that you have the same weather we had on our last cruise (warm enough for swimming but with no obnoxious heat).

Veronica we bailed on formal night too, that is funny. We ate around the pool at Plutos- ahhh relaxing! OK right now it is snowing here.

How is your motivation right now?I am excited for the race but the thought of going out here to run turns my stomach- I am ready to not have to go out there unless I want to.

OMG Linda I am so with you on the running!! It is just sloppy and nasty out and I really hate the dreadmill. Tomorrow is 5 miles, I can do it on the TM if need be, but would always much rather go outside to run.

Can't wait til we leave on Thursday, though the weather is not fantastic in Orlando at the moment:eek:
