Running for Freedom(of the Seas) The Journey Begins Today!(Comments Welcome)

You know how weather is it can change in an instant- but for the good we hope.Does look like it will be on the cooler side though.See being a NE'er does have its perks-we are used to it!

Linda

At least it's sunny in Orlando now...but CHILLY! I don't think we're going to get any more rain for a while, but it's definitely not going to feel like FL temperature-wise. Oh well, at least you know you'll never run into a blizzard here.

Did 3 miles this morning instead of the scheduled 5. I can only take so much on the tm before I am ready to hang myself.

Packing is complete, with a few last minute exceptions. Got pedicures today (me and DD) so now we are ready to go!!

Veronica,
Well here we go! I can't believe it is here already. It is a shame about the weather but as long as it does not rain- keep everthing crossed-it will be OK.

I am working tomorrow- 0630 -500pm so today I have to get everything done.Maybe take some shorts out of the suitcase- :(

I wrote your bib # down- it is an easy one to remember.Mine is 43841.I am getting nervous.I feel like I did not train well this time.I am fat and stiff right now-HA!HA!

Going out for 3 today to stay moving. It is 18 degrees here- nice!

We are leaving on Thursday, arriving at 10 am to OKW by Magical Express- where are you guys again? When do you get in? Expo Thursday between 1-2 pm hopefully.

Do you want to meet up in the staging area to say "Hello and good luck?" I am thinking I will get on the bus between 3-330am.Once you go through to the staging area we could meet directly to the left of the entrance? Then I will be setting myself up near the port a potties many times through!

I hope you get this before we go,

Linda

We fly out Thurs am 8:30 arrive around 11, staying at POFQ, we should be there by 1. Then heading over to the expo with my friend Jody.
I don't know where anything is, but I will try to find you on race day,if we don'tmeet up at the expo. I am going to PM you my cell # incase you want to meet at the expo. Also, we are doing a group dinner at WPE on friday night, would love for you to join us (very casual thing, just folks we know from our website and podcast who are coming).

Yes being NE'ers does help with the weather issue, but I am still not loving it. I am SOOOOO glad DH made us buy race retreat-i think we won't regret it!

See ya in a couple days!!

OK saw this after the PM.

What is WPE- I thought I knew all Disney! Thanks for the offer but like I said in the PM it is going to be tough. I have alot of ADRs for the short time we are there but thought I better in case the crowd was more intense than last year.If it wasn't for the race it would have been a ghost town.

I am actually considering wearing a clear trash bag over my clothes( cannot believe I just said that!!!!) until the start to stay warm- the number is the issue.I don't want to be in layers, warm up then have to stop to switch my number.I wish it was at least 45 at the start that would be excellent.

See you soon,
Linda

WPE-Wolfgang Puck Express!

We are doing the trash bags too. I think I am going to buy the bib belt at the expo.

Sending you a PM too!

I'm probably too late to wish you luck on Dis, but I know you won't need luck, warm clothes, but not luck because you are well prepared.

I do hope you will get some real Florida warmth and sunshine and the weather will moderate. Somehow it's not a Disney trip without the ability to wear shorts and sun dresses.

May your heels fly!
Laurie

OMG Veronica just missing the quake? I am glad you guys are all right.

The race was so packed at the beginning if you wanted to really pace you would be on the grass! At that point I made a decision to stay with my brother through the whole thing.Mind you he did not train for this, not even a mile.I would have felt guilty forever if something happened to him out there. We fininshed in 2:43, h2o and potty stops which of course I never do while training- go figure!

Oh well we had fun but I find my competitive self wishing I did my thing.Thinking of Princess next March?

Linda

So I am back and recovered (somewhat) from Marathon Weekend and a week long cruise. New goals ahead, but will keep journaling here, mostly because I am lazy and don't want to start a new thread.;)

My half marathon experience:

Well it was cold, and wet, and slow. But it was awesome all the same. Seeing all the people out cheering for us, seeing other WISHers along the way, WOW. FIL and I ran together for the first 9 miles, then I got some serious cramping in my right foot, which continued up my leg to my hip, slowing me down some. I finished far slower than I had hoped (2:59:01) but I didn't care. I FINISHED!! I cried a bit when the volunteer put the medal around my neck. It took a few minutes to find FIL, but we made our way to the best money I ever spent-The Race Retreat. THE BEST MONEY I EVER SPENT, EVER, EVER. What an awesome thing on such a miserable day.

My friends from California have talked me into going to DL for the half and getting me a cool Coast to Coast medal.:goodvibes DH is onboard, as I will be going by myself (can't afford for all three of us to go). So I now have something else to train for.

Plus, as previously mentioned, I am going to run the full at Disney. Now it has been bumped up to 2013, since that is the 20th anniversary. DH is onboard with this too. (Isn't he great?:lovestruc)

Unfortunately, before I can start training for another half, I seriously need to drop some weight. I was down to 164 in Dec of 2007, as of yesterday (yes the day after I returned from a 10 day vacation) I was 182. I really would like to be in the 150's before I start training again. Ultimately I would like to be in the 130's by the time I left for Anaheim.

My strategy for this weight loss is:

Back on WW, once I have gone to the grocery store and procured the items I need to succeed.

Changing up my exercise-weights 2-3 x per week, couple of classes at the Y. Running occasionally, incline walking.

I have done it before, losing 50 lbs, so I know I can do it again.

Hey Veronica good job and glad your back on track!

Wish you lived around here since our goals are so similar we could run together.

Linda

I thought of starting a new journal too but may just stay with the one I have.

You did great! I'm so proud of you. Now it looks like you are addicted for sure.;)

We started training for a 1/2 this Saturday - walk for us, not a run. Thus far I've been good on walking everyday and the weather is cooperating. When in the 1/2 at DL? It's a little less than a two hour flight for me and BIL/SIL live in the OC.

Again, I'm so proud of you!

Laurie

Laurie-

The DL half is Sept 5th, the day before Labor Day. I am going out on Friday and coming home on Monday. My friends live in LA, so I will stay with them.

Good for you on training for a half!!! Is it a local race? Are you following a training program? There are some really good plans out there to follow, some specifically designed for walkers.

Yep I am hooked. I will be running another half (Marine Corps) in October as well. So by my 40th birthday I will have run 4 half marathons.

Veronica,
That sounds neat- what parts of Albany? Farmland or city? I have to say we went to visit College of Saint Rose and we got lost and let me say I was scared to death where we ended up.Lets just say it looked like a storm had gone through there with people hanging out all over the place- scary. We never made it there I told my DD no way. They could offer her a full scholarship and I would never let her stay here.

So do you get any good bling for this race? Of course nothing beats the Disney medals.Any chance you would be interested in doing the Princess 1/2 next year with me? I hope they still have it.

Are you doing any races in January at WDW next year?

Ugh how is the dieting coming? I was doing great then had pancakes last night for dinner and feel the bloat this am!

Talk soon,
Linda

The route is from Albany to Schenectady, main roads I believe. It is done by one of the running clubs and is a good event. I am unsure about the bling, I will have to check into that.

I don't know that I will be able to get to Florida next year at all. With me doing DL in Sept, we are kinda tapped out. But one never knows what will happen.

Just started WW this morning, will post up about that in another post.

Veronica,
We watched a great show on WW last night on FitTV.Check the listings to see when it is on again- losts of good pointers.

DL sounds great! I really want to do the Princess this year too but wish I lived closer. Can't do another plane and driving 20+ hours back yuck! Going down is exciting but the ride back would kill me.

Good luck with WW! I will be here for support.

Linda

I also happened about the Fit TV WW show - very good info even if you aren't following WW. She was basically keeping her away from high fat/high carb stuff. (Tonight I didn't do either - read a restaurant review about something called the Mikie Burger in Fircrest and the review said it was better than a Dick's burger (Seattle favorite from college days) and an In and Out burger. It lived up to it's billing along with the custard hot fudge milk shake--we were way off the wagon, but the craving is satisfied for the next 6 months.

I'm not following a particular program for training for a 1/2 m/20 K, but the next staff run/walk/bike goes up to 10K in two weeks. We did 2.6 mi tonight before the Mikie Burger jaunt on the flat along the Tacoma waterfront at a fast clip walking (we even passed a jogger). I can't jog/run as it jars my lower back and gives me shin splints as soon as I start. We did 5K last Saturday as our first walk since laying off in October without problems, but it was all on the flat. Our neighborhood has much more in the way of steeps and flats and is probably better training ground--we just needed the change in scenery.

I sure wish I could arrange to be in DL for Labor Day, but we are supposed to close the cabin that weekend instead of waiting until mid-October. The past two years, we've nearly busted the pipes in the place getting there in the nick of time and my folks want it buttoned down sooner this year. But maybe...

Keep true to your plan - it's hard to make the adjustment stick, just don't let life get in the way, or another DH's cold and fast food binge. You can do it!
