Good morning. Another hot day. Upper 90's again. Going to stay this way for another week. At least we have a few days at the beginning of the week with a chance of rain.

Heading out to do errands and get groceries before the heat builds up.

Nothing much else going on.

Have a nice last day of July!

Continuing kitty extra prayers dear Pollyannamom.

Lynn, please take good care and stay cool!

Good afternoon friends. Quiet around here which is lovely. Dad shared with me on Monday that one reason I was named Mona was because I was born on a Monday. What day of the week were you born? To anyone who is comfortable sharing, do you know why you were given your name or if you prefer why, you chose your child's or even pet's name? I just looked and my dad was born on a Friday. Grandpa Sam on a Thursday way back in 1917 and Grandma Dolores on a Friday in 1918. Our dog Champ was also born on a Friday in 1989. Just interesting to think about :)

Happy rest of Wednesday to all:grouphug:

I was born on a Friday. I have no idea how my name was chosen.

I was born on a Saturday, at the exact same time of day (different date) that my mom had been born at years before. She just liked my name, no particular family connection.

DS's first name came from a book DH and I both happened to read while I was pregnant. (Not a baby name book, just a novel.) We liked how it sounded with our last name. His middle name is my brother's first name.

Good evening.

Been a busy week with routine drs appointments but other than that I just had to get the boys to camp. I did get exciting news for my cruise. I had originally opted for an inside cabin bit then started having second thoughts. I was able to bid on an upgrade and today it was accepted. Now instead of a smaller inside cabin we have a premium deluxe cabin. I'm excited.

The crazy neighbor blocked the driveway a couple more times so my husband had a chat with her. She thinks I should just park on the street or up by the house so the neighbor that shares the driveway area can park. Jim was a lit bit upset by that and told her that she is parking illegally and will get ticketed, and I can park in my driveway however I want. She was a little angry with him but she hasn't blocked it since.

Love the interesting question, Mona. I was born on a Monday at 10:30 in the morning. My dad always said it was a good thing I decided to be born that day because otherwise I would have been born behind the counter of my grandparents' bakery while my mom was working. My mom always said I was named after a German store girl that worked for my grandparents because mom liked the name, and I wouldn't get a nickname. She was wrong because my brothers all call me Sis. It used to bother me but now I realize I carry on the name Sis in honor of the great aunt I named my daughter after in a very roundabout way. My aunt's name was Lizzette and she died while I was expecting my daughter. We never really picked out a girl's name as I was figuring she would be a boy. Surprise! I had a second daughter. I played around with a lot of names but came up with Beth to honor my great aunt. Lizzette is a variation of Elizabeth, which I thought was way to formal, so she became Beth. It suits her. My Aunt Sis was a really great woman who never married staying home to take care of her mom. I have suspicions there may have been other reasons, but I adored her.

4 more drs. appointments over the next 2 days but they are quick ones and 3 are actually for me. 2 check-ups and the knee brace which I hope will help. Hope you all have a great evening

Tazdev Congrats on the cruise upgrade. Have a great trip. We have balcony cabins for our cruise as I love to go out on the balcony and read. Also I am claustrophobic so I need the space. I do get a discount working for a cruise travel agency so that helps alot. I hope all the doctor appts go well and the knee brace helps.

Good morning. I am so glad not to have to drive into the office today. But, I have a busy day as it starts my busy week and I have the grandkids for the day. I am hoping so much the Kenny's divorce arbitration goes well and is fair for all especially the kids. I know he is stressed.

Off to get some work done before the kids come. Have a good day.

Extra prayers for you and your family today dear Snowysmom. Happy August to you and all of our Quacker family.

I've been enjoying some Christmas and other season movies lately. It also breaks my heart to see so many previews for movies that seem to be all violence. Sad. It makes those films that do touch me mean more. Have a great new month dear friends. Love to all.

Good morning, welcome to day whatever of this continued heat. We're going to hit 99 again today. I can't take much more of not being able to go outside and enjoy a little bit of summer. They keep saying we'll get storms, but none materialize.

I swear the heat is affecting everything. I was in Aldi's yesterday and their U Scans kept stopping. Then in Walmart, their U Scans and registers were extremely slow and lagging. I had to get a customer service person 3x just to get through my order. Then it told me my Visa was declined, yet the receipt came out showing I had paid? I ordered something online last night and got an order #, but no confirmation email. I called the company this morning and she said my order was stuck in error state and not fully submitted. Which seems strange, since I got an order @ and the money came out of my bank. She resubmitted it and sent me the confirmation. She made sure there was only 1 charge for it.

Then I bought something on Ebay, and tried to send the seller a message asking why my order was shipped ground advantage instead of priority mail as stated in the auction description. I opened a request asking for a partial refund on the shipping cost. I didn't pay for priority mail to have it take until next Tuesday to get here. For some reason, Ebay sent the message 13 times. I got them to call me and she insisted it was an error with my internet, until she looked at the messages and saw that it was really sent that many times. That was when she found a notice that the messaging system was having errors. No kidding, I tried telling her that 3x, lol This all after a message on the page saying 'try our new upgraded messaging system', no thank you!

Summer asked me last night if I could loan her some money so she could take the girls to the beach for a few days. I felt bad, but I had to say no. I recently paid to have both of her cars fixed for her. I have my own upcoming vacations to pay for, as well as property taxes which just came out. She should be paying her bills, not spending hundreds on a hotel room. Instead of looking at rooms that are $80 or so a night a little farther down the beach, she's looking at beachfront rooms that cost $200 or more. She will never get her priorities straight.
Off to put laundry in and get something done. @Snowysmom - once again, good thoughts sent Kenny's way, in hopes that they actually get the arbitration done.

Happy August to all my Quacker family!

Yikes on the Walmart/Ebay/online order problems!

And the borrowing - I get it. I will only lend what I can afford to never get back.

Going to the beach this Saturday - everybody seems to want to go, so I ended up getting two rooms. I'm happy to have them come but, I don't want to share a bath or bedroom with 6 people. I called the hotel to try and arrange for connecting rooms and they will try but, it may not be possible at this point, but if nothing else they'll get us on the same floor. It's a little late for me to be requesting this with 2 separate reservations so I'll be happy with whatever they do. And, the rooms are on points.

Not sure what beach Summer was trying to go to, but finding a room for even $200 that is fit for 'me' to sleep in is rough. I won't bother going if it's a room I can't enjoy. Yes, I'm pretty fussy about where I sleep - most of the time. (See below.) Some of those beach rooms are pretty old and dilapidated although they may be clean, I don't know as it's part of my criteria to make sure the room is not too dated. And that said, this old lady ain't paying $900 for any room, so points it is.

In other news my electricity came back on around 6am after being out since yesterday afternoon. A storm came through, lasted a short time, and brought down 4 bigger trees 3 doors down from us. Our neighborhood is older with above ground power lines.

The whole area is scattered with limbs, some big and some small in addition to the downed trees.

So, no entertainment last evening after myself and the neighbors went back into our homes (glad they were still standing), I poured a small glass of wine and sipped it before going to bed. DD had put dinner back in the fridge as she hadn't been able to cook it. Then she got us and a neighbor some Chik fil a, and we had a flashlight dinner. She had also brought home some Crumbles cookies for dessert. I lay back on my bed and woke up fully dressed at 4am. That's how my body handles 4 ounces of wine. Anyway got up and took a shower and soon electric came back, just in time to make my morning coffee.

Ocean City. She wanted to stay where Don and I had stayed the last few times we went down. The Quality Inn Oceanfront. The last time we were there I think we paid maybe $125. I just looked up what she was talking about, and it says the total for 2 nights for 3 adults is $893, plus an additional $97 in fees? That's crazy! I could see that in a newer hotel, but not there. She said most of the places she looked were between $200 and $600 a night.
She should be trying down the other end near Fenwick Island or even going down into Rehoboth. She had looked online at some of those that were like $80-100 a night, but she says they're not good enough. It's not that far to drive to OC from there. If you're on a limited budget, you have to plan smart. Meals down there are expensive, as are souvenirs, etc.

Travel is so expensive as are every day items. It seems regular letter size easy seal envelopes are the latest thing to have gone way up in cost. Miss the 99 Cent Only Store and well stocked Dollar Trees. Truly all found items dad and I are able to afford are more of a blessing these days for sure. Have a great evening friends and to those traveling safe and fun trips.

This is why I collect points with my credit cards.

Hyatt is right next door to you and Don's Quality Inn (I think - 16th St?) There is another Quality Inn further north but I'm not familiar with it. Edit - I just realized this is Quality Inn Boardwalk which is also oceanfront. The Oceanfront is further down.

The cash rate at Hyatt for my Saturday night room is $783 plus taxes of I think it's 11%. So roughly $870 for one night. I transferred points into my Hyatt Hotel rewards account from my Chase credit card account and will pay 29000 points. The least they are worth is $290 which I could cash them out for. This hotel was built in 2017 or 2018, not exactly remembering which year, but I stayed right after it opened for a bit over $125 or so end of September or early October. The prices have risen that much. The hotel is decent but showing some age as it doesn't take long. The people are nice and I like it. But I can't afford it at over $800 or let's say I won't pay that.

I've also stayed at the Quality Inn next door, but maybe 20 years ago, and the Holiday Inn on the other side of it almost every year since it opened in 2001, plus the Courtyard Marriott on the south side of the Hyatt. My favorite is the Holiday Inn and Suites - it's been renovated last year and is quite nice, but I couldn't get a room on the weekend booking last minute. Before these we used to stay further north at what was a Sheraton and also the other Holiday Inn at 6600 Coastal Hwy. Every so often I'll drop in there for a meal. I've stayed outside at various places also, but now I just like to have that balcony looking out at the ocean for at least 1 or 2 nights in summer.

In October the prices will drop for all of them, but summer prices are crazy. June, July and August are when they make enough money to stay open for the other 9 months. If lucky you can get some decent weather in October.

Rehoboth is getting expensive also. The whole coast is very popular and filled with out of state cars from all the surrounding states all the way into New York. The traffic is bad on the weekends, another reason why I like the area I stay in. You can get food without driving too much. Check out the prices down in Chincoteague - they are almost as bad.

We always went in September, after Labor Day. A lot less crowded! Those are crazy prices for a hotel room for one night!!!
