PollyannaMom They do still have the playground exhibit. My grandkids love it. They stay there the longest. Owen loves to spin on the spinner and comes off dizzy. He doesn't care about the science behind it, just that it is fun. They like any exhibit where they can get their hands on things and build things.

I may check with the Olympics now and then but not a big fan of the summer Olympics. The trampoline competition sounds like it would be fun to watch.

I had the opening ceremony set to record, not realizing they were also showing it at 1:30 this afternoon. I cancelled the other one, and recorded it. Just finished FF'ing through it (first hour was commercial free).
I have to say, that was one of the most creative opening ceremonies I've ever seen. Very imaginative. The cauldron for the torch, very usual, and stunning. Celine Dion closed the ceremony and brought tears to my eyes. She was very brave to do that, as ill as she's been.

Now I have tonight free, though I may re-watch a few parts of it before deleting it.

I haven’t watched any of the Olympics yet, but I hope to catch some of it this weekend.

Kudos to Celine Dion for getting herself out there to sing! :goodvibes

Will be rooting for the young lady from MD!

DS and his gf and the kids came over today to swim. The kids love fruit so that’s easy. We also did hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill, and I made some pasta to have on hand anyway, with shredded chicken. I like that sometimes. I put some aside for the kids first, though, with just butter. That’s how they like it.

DD started her new job this week. Came home and practically passed out on the sofa. She likes it, though. She’s at the tail end of a sinus infection so she’s a little run down.

Friends are visiting from out of town this weekend. Haven’t seen them since the FL wedding last December.

I hope everyone has a nice weekend! 🐥

Pea Hope your DD feels better soon. It is tough to be sick and starting a new job together.

Good morning. The sun is out and it is around 70 with temps again going into the 80s. I have done some housework and went to Hannafords to get my turkey for the week. I like to go early Saturday mornings for that as I like the deli people. Eggs went up again. I have to go let Kenny's dog out while they are at Canobie today. I would not want to be there on a nice Saturday in the summer. It will be a zoo. I plan to walk at the lake and then go to Kenny's which is on my way back to the condo. I am wearing one of my skorts today and I am surprised how comfy it is. It may have to come on the cruise with me. :)

I have to take a look to see what will be on TV for the Olympics.

Have a good Saturday.

Hug, Snowysmom. I'm glad you like your skort. Thank you for taking such good :dogdance:care. I hope Kenny and his kids have fun. I had never heard of Canobie. I'm with you in preferring a quieter outing.

Have a good Saturday, everyone.

Sitting outside on the porch with one of the cats, and it's soooo nice and not humid. 😎

She still has the sore on her nose (I guess more "lip" if you'd call it that in a cat) though, so at her appointment the other day, they took some cells and sent slides off to the lab. Please send good thoughts.

Went yesterday with MIL to price more flea market donations, and we had a ton a stuff! Took us ages to finish, but very grateful for the participation!

Does everyone know about the deli recall? They found listeria in some Boars Head products, so check your fridges. I actually called my grocery store earlier because I wondered about cross-contamination from the slicers even with other stuff, but they don't carry that brand at all, so I was relieved.

I hadn't heard of it, but then again, I don't buy Boars Head products because of their cost. I always wonder that at the deli in Walmart. They never wipe down the slicer between orders. Not very sanitary.

Good Saturday morning.
Going to be another hot few days. Maybe some rain Monday night or Tuesday, but I'm not holding out much hope. It's going to be 94 today, but it's not humid. I just went through the garden and around the fence with the weed wacker to get rid of the little bit of tall grass that came up after the rain we had the other day. I've heard a few neighbors mowing, but I can't figure out what they're mowing, because every lawn I can see looks like the Sahara Desert.

Going to strip the bed, and get something out of the freezer for dinner, and then check the Olympic schedule to see if there's anything I really want to see. I pick and choose, the summer games aren't my favorite.

I hope your daughter feels better @Pea-n-Me . Enjoy the visit with your company

Have a good day everyone

Boars Head is what I prefer and usually buy. However, I'm very specific and will buy a 1/4 pound of maybe 2 meats when I get deli stuff and then only every couple of months. Otherwise it sits in the fridge and gets tossed. Too expensive to be doing that! So, none here at the moment.

DD is still cooking Hello Fresh meals 3- 4 times a week and although I get tired of some of them it is convenient, meaning I never have to cook. Yesterday we got a takeout pizza and sides. Today might have been a day to have grocery store food since last week we got a prepared meal at Costco - the stuffed peppers. Six peppers stuffed took about 4 meals to eat as DD ate once and I barely want a single pepper serving! I do like it but eat light as I keep a lot of fruit around plus fresh veggies.

There are things in the freezer that will make a dinner with a bit of effort and a quick trip to Aldi, like buns for steak sandwiches or sour cream and mushrooms and egg noodles for a beef stroganoff - I've been thinking I'd like that. I want to use that top sirloin within the next two weeks, as I give those things no more than one month frozen.

I must be hungry as I keep rambling about food!

In other news I finally finished watching the opening of the Paris Olympics. Fell asleep early and woke up around midnite and started watching where I had left off earlier in the day. I wanted to listen to Celine sing and enjoyed it as well as the all around spectacle of the show. Was not overly impressed with Lady Gaga but didn't hate her number.

Maybe it's just me but I did not like the US contingent's clothing. For me it didn't come together. A nice jacket with jeans can look spiffy (is that an old word?) but this combo imho missed the mark and just looked kind of sloppy. Many of the other countries had really nice costumes. Whatshisname failed.

We watched some of Opening Ceremony live, and some that was taped. Really enjoyed Celine Dion’s number…her voice was amazing! I didn’t like Lady Gaga’s number at all.

The cauldron lighting was interesting.

Some commentators talked about how people watching could be saying, “I was there” or “I would really like to go there.” That was us! We are so happy to have gone to Paris and to recognize the sites. For us the Beaches of Normandy was our reason to go to France, but Paris was wonderful, too!

Lynn, one of my jobs in college was in a supermarket, in the deli. A big job we had every night at closing was to clean the slicers. (Where, inevitably, someone would come by in the midst of cleaning and want something sliced! 🤦🏻‍♀️ ) The whole thing has to be carefully taken apart and the blades soaked and washed, and the rest hand cleaned. (Yuck, I can still smell it!) It wouldn’t be possible to do that every time they slice something. Not sure there’s really a need, either, since normally there aren’t germs that shouldn’t be in the meats. (It doesn’t hurt, though, to at least maybe wipe the scraps away from time to time, which I bet most places probably do.)

The other thing I think about cleaning today is, I’m not sure everyone knows how to do it right, and I don’t trust that they wouldn’t actually be adding germs if they tried to wipe slicers down with, say, dirty rags. I remember once where DH worked they got pinged by either the FDA or DPH for having rags by the sink - they’d tested them, and sure enough, they tested positive for - wait for it - listeria! 😳 :faint: That was a long time ago, but it’s also why rags shouldn’t be laying around in food places and why they most often use disposable paper towels to clean - or should.

I think I’ve told this story before but one day in the supermarket I was in the ladies room when the janitor was in there cleaning. I watched him clean the toilet bowl with the brush - then take the brush over to the faucets and start to clean them with it after cleaning the bowl! :faint: I was in college at the time and had taken my medical microbiology class and nearly passed out! I went to the manager and told them that guy was putting us all at risk and he needed to be re-taught how to clean. Never from dirty to clean, and never using toilet brushes on sinks! I still get grossed out in public bathrooms and am very careful in there if I have to use them!

So I don’t trust a lot of places when I go in there, whether it’s shopping or using the bathroom or getting a sandwich, etc. I always thought it was gross at Subway with the workers touching everything around the kitchen and then putting lettuce on sandwiches with the same glove. Ugh. I love Moe’s but watching them in there I have concerns there, too, lol. Especially when there is no kill step. (Heat.)

We have experienced a food borne illness and it was life changing.

Good morning. It is cool here right now, 60 but getting up towards 80 today. Heading to the museum in a bit. We will go to the playground first and then the museum to met Jeff and kids. Yesterday I made my soup and it was so good. I have enough for a few more nights. I also did more cruise trip prep. I am trying to get the bag I am carrying around until the cabin is ready as light as I can but I think it is still going to be a bit heavy. I believe all I have to do now is pack my clothes that I have ready to go. 12 more days. Kenny laughs at my prep for trips but I have always been like this.

Chris worked in a deli at Stop and Shop when he was in college. He really liked it and did say cleaning was the worst part. This was in the days before the scale calculated and printed out the deli labels. The deli I use at Hannafords does not sell Boar's head so good there.

Have a good Sunday.

Good morning all. Been busy here with having grandkids and cleaning out and renovating/painting.

It's a never ending job!

Getting ready to go to the beach next weekend for a few nights. I'll be switching hotels as I'm going for 'free' using free nights. The Hilton night was about to expire therefore why I am switching after my first night.

Meanwhile, I took a big break from painting to do some other stuff. Will have to get back to the paint soon to get all the trim finished. I'll have the 'guy' come in for this as painting is not my thing. I took down some shelving and decided to paint that small area. That was enough to remind me why I don't do it myself and why I shouldn't be too quick to get critical about my painter's skills. He's downright precise compared to the mess I created, lol.

Meanwhile I've unearthed a trove of old Tupperware in my basement. There's a ton of it on Ebay but I'll be sending it off to the thrift store as I don't have the patience to sell it. It was in a box but still dusty so I washed it all. Don't want the thrift store guy to think I'm a bad housekeeper! My basement is still full of dubious treasures but I'll get it all out eventually. I did stop by the thrift and noticed they collect a lot of stuff in my area that is shipped off to other locations. I had no idea they did this.

My son got a new SUV a few weeks ago and yesterday he sold his old car. The dealers and Carmax had offered him $500. He just wanted to be rid of it but knew $500 was low. How low we didn't realize as after some research he sold it for $3500, with a lot of interest over craigslist. He put a detailed listing on there and had almost all his repair and oil change receipts plus the Carfax. The people that bought had it looked over by a mechanic and came back and bought it at that price. So, your 'trade in' may be worth a LOT more than a dealer offer. Son was getting a larger vehicle to account for a growing family.

Makes me want another new car. Mine is 2017 and I want a bigger hybrid. I've been fighting myself for some time now but the car dealerships are helping because they don't have what I want. Maybe 2025 models will be better. Toyota -> I don't want leather trim on a 56K vehicle. Honda -> why isn't there a Hybrid Pilot? I want heated and cooled leather and all the options and a roomy interior. I've looked online at the upscale stuff and there are quite a few shortcomings as well. Also, it's difficult to give up my gas mileage - bigger means less. Right now, unless I'm on a trip gas costs me about $30 to fill up a month. I don't want full electric either.

Good morning to a cool start heading for mid 90's. This heat just won't let up. I don't think we're ever going to see green grass again, unless we get about a solid week of rain.

I just dusted and vacuumed the entire house, that's my excitement for the day, lol. Not feeling the greatest so it's good with me

Have a nice Sunday
