I also saw activity on the roof in November. Do those yellow suits look like haz-mat suits?

It's hard to tell in the pics, but the neon green / yellow are just regular shirts. Possibly a long sleeve t-shirt to protect them from the sun. The hats that most of them wore were those safari / fishing type hats.

I took some pics in early March. So far I've barely touched many of my pics, but as I get them edited, I'll post them. Here is the bridge and some of the legendary years.

jenseib... Your pic is now my background! Sweet picture!!!
After looking at that picture I just can't see how anyone can call that an eyesore. Sorry, I just don't see it.
Great picture!

Which do you have as your background pic? The bridge or the rooms building? I agree that the bridge is not an eye sore. In fact I like the bridge. Its so peaceful. The eyesore that most speak of is the empty / abandoned "legendary Hall" (check in area) and the 2 buildings with uncompleted rooms.

WDW could make a few bucks by charging a small fee for an "abandoned tour" of Legendary Years. I know I would sign up!!! Well, maybe not if its the same price as the "Keys to the Kingdom" tour. :rotfl2:

I'm not using the bridge; I'm using the resort photo. I think the resort itself is cool looking. It blends into the surroundings well with that color. I still say it's cool looking. But we all have opinions.

Gotcha. I think most people don't associate abandoned buildings with WDW. Personally, I'd like to take a tour and take pics. Then many years from now, I could look back. :yay:

I was at Pop on Tuesday and 2 things to note.... There was some "activity" on the roof of the unfinished room buildings. I have no clue what they were doing. They had a tent (to provide shade) and were there most of the morning until around 1:30PM.

Also, I walked to the end of the bridge and peeked through the bushes and there was a pipe sticking up out of the ground about 2 ft with water flowing. I noticed it around 2:00 Tuesday afternoon and didn't think anything of it because of the guys on top of the roof. So around 4 I walked to the end of the bridge again and the water was still pouring from the pipe. I felt like someone should know because that was ALOT of water being wasted. I figured if I told the front desk, it wouldn't go anywhere. So I called the main WDW # and explained to the CM that I was staying at Pop and I noticed on the unfinished Phase 2 was what looked like a broken water pipe. She asked for my room # and was it in my room. :rotfl2: So I explained again and she asked, what do you mean unfinished Phase 2 of Pop? So I asked if she could transfer me to Pop Security. So she did. I think those CM's need to get out more. Especially since they answer incoming calls from the main WDW number. Anyway, I explained to Security and (nice guy) said they were probably draining a retention pond or backflushing a storm drain, but he would have it checked out. From the looks of the clean water and the pipe location, it seemed to be clean water. I figured no one would take me serious but it wasn't 5 minutes until Security came in his golf cart. I was half way across the bridge and noticed him looking in the lake, around the lake, so I walked up to him (another nice guy) and showed him the pipe. His reaction was "oh my word". So he radio'd in and I heard him say that Reedy Creek needs to come back out that there was another water break. I guess he needed to explain to the person on the other end so he said that RCID was out last week doing some checking and we have found another water break. Couple minutes, a guy in a shirt and tie drives up in his cart and jumps the fence and walks over, then 2 more security guards drive in from the other side. A short while later a RCID truck comes over and plugs the pipe.
I know, probably more than you wanted to read, but just wanted to send an update.

Here is a pic I took the day after. It was the white pipe in the center of the pic.

Hey, you did the right thing. With the problems we are having down here in Florida regarding water, we appreciate your taking the time to find a solution to this apparent waste of water. Thanks again!:thumbsup2

I didn't have a chance to go through all 23 pages but when i went in December of '07, my friend and I hopped the fence and explored the construction site at night (please no flaming..I know it's dumb to do but... whatever. we're nosey!)...here's the post of my trip report with some pics..

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=22178252&postcount=98

Does anyone know WHY there was a submarine in the back and what it was used for and why it's still there? haha
Ooooooh your photos of the abandoned pop has lots of spooky ghost orbs in them...no way am I going over there now..not unless Jason and Grant are with me!!!!:scared1:

Just an update. Or rather a non-update. But was at Pop yesterday and nothing new to report.

my wife and i were there in december and took some pics. our room was 3107? so we were back near the lake and so we had a great view from our balcony. it was really weird to see, especially at night, the deserted buildings.

I don't know why I never thought to post this before now... I guess it does fit into this thread. When DH and I were at POP over Thanksgiving (2008), he was waiting for me on the balcony one morning and saw the cars/cycles from the "Lights, Motors, Action!" show practicing routines in the Legendary Years parking lot. The actual LMA show was not taking place the week we were there (it was listed under refurbs that week), so maybe that was the best place to practice. DH was pretty glad to see it because he really likes that show. They had been practicing for just over an hour by the time we stopped watching and left. I guess all that land is good for something useful!

Thanks!! That would explain the "dirt hills" that I noticed there a while back.

I thought I'd mention that I was making an ADR yesterday and the CM asked what resort I would be staying at. I told her Pop and her next question was whether I was staying in the Classic section or the Legendary Years. I thought that was sort of odd, and I said, "Oh, did they finish the Legendary Years?" But right then she said, "Oh, okay I've found your reservation..." and the conversation continued and ended without the question being answered. For a minute there I was sort of excited thinking Legendary Years might be open, but I guess not.

Well, that is weird! Maybe it was a CM who isn't as familiar with the Resorts, but just focuses on dining. That would have peaked my interest, too!

You should post this story over on this thread:

I checked out that thread and it seems to be about CMs making inaccurate statements. To be fair, the CM didn't tell me the Legendary Years was open. She just asked me a question that made it seem possible that LY might be. I think she was reading a scripted set of questions from her computer, so I don't think it's a situation involving a CM giving bad info.

It could possibly be that it was a new hire and isn't familiar with WDW property. LY hasn't been touched in 8+ years.

Look back to the pic that I posted a few weeks ago about the broken water pipe. When I called the main WDW # from my cell phone standing on the bridge looking at the water going everywhere, the WDW Operator had no clue what I was talking about when I described the location being the unfinished phase of Pop Century. So I asked to be transfered to Pop security.

And to add..... I was at Pop last Friday and nothing seems to be changed across the bridge.

I did notice several tractor trailers and box trucks with the name of a contractor company, JCQ Services, in the 50"s parking lot. Not sure if they are part of the remodeling crew for Classic Years or what....... They do have a web site and appears they do alot of remodeling at the resorts.

I'm going to WDW in one week (not staying at POP this time though), and I now I want to take a quick trip over there just to see if anything is going on. Hmmm, maybe I can convince my DH and Mom to go with me....

Personally, I would love for Disney to finish the LY side of the resort. I am a history nut and would absolutely love to stay there!
