We just got back from Disney today, and I took a quick trip over to Pop earlier today before we left. I am sad to report that it appears as though NOTHING has changed at all expect that the trees at the end of the Generation Gap Bridge have grown taller and fuller in the two years since I was there last. I took some pictures of the LY, but I haven't downloaded them to my laptop yet. At this rate, it seems that Disney is never going to do anything with that side of the resort....so sad.

We just got back and I took a few pictures. I can't believe I never knew that place was there!!! We've stayed at Pop probably 10-12 times!
Nothing spectacular; but here's a few photos.
That bridge is amazing! The whole area is very romantic. MY biggest regret of the trip (aside from choosing the week with record breaking HOT AS HECK temps all week, and choosing the most crowded May week in history) was that we didn't spend more time at the bridge. With seemingly 10 billion people at WDW that week it would have been nice to have enjoyed a picnic meal over there away from it all. It just never panned out, and it's a shame.

It just looks so tranquil and peaceful. Certainly NOT words you would use to describe the parks last week!:rotfl2:

Beautiful pics - thanks for updating and sharing.

No change yet on the construction. :(

Thanks for the pics!!!

I was at Pop on Tuesday, but didn't post anything because I didn't want to seem like a "broken record - skipping". :lmao: Basically, nothing going on across the lake.

I thought I'd mention that I was making an ADR yesterday and the CM asked what resort I would be staying at. I told her Pop and her next question was whether I was staying in the Classic section or the Legendary Years. I thought that was sort of odd, and I said, "Oh, did they finish the Legendary Years?" But right then she said, "Oh, okay I've found your reservation..." and the conversation continued and ended without the question being answered. For a minute there I was sort of excited thinking Legendary Years might be open, but I guess not.

I noticed that on my invoice. When I first booked, it would just say "Pop Century", now my new invoice says "Pop Century Clssc Yrs". I called once and they also said that they see we are booked at the Pop Century Classic Years, and when I asked what the difference is and why are they now including the word "classic" in the reservation, they said that is the official name of the hotel.

I've had Classic noted on my reservation for the last 3 years.

I would love to see the other half of POP finished in some guise.
retheming / rebranding Pop Century Legendary Years so that it then can become a new family-friendly Resort, Disney's Animation Inn and Suites.
when construction actually begins?:confused3
Construction work is much cheaper to get done during a recession .. when nobody else wants to do it.. than after when the economy strikes up again.
I just bet that Disney will be watching to get the timing just about right.

Jim Hill is reporting (some folks don't put much faith in his facts) that Disney has recently signed contracts to start the conversion of the unfinished builidngs at Pop Century into family suites. Link: http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hi...to-recede.aspx

A friend of mine recently stayed at Pop and said there appeared to be work going on to those abandoned buildings on the Legendary Years side. I haven't seen anything on here about it. Anyone know?
Last rumor was that construction was to start in April.. and now is MAY 14!!!:sad2:

I thought I hear something about filming a movie over there. Maybe I am remembering wrong

Thats old news about the animation thing. I hope it's not true. That guy seems to never be right in anything I have read of his so far.

OK, I can't pass this one up...
Dead Zone 2?
Ghostbusters 3?
Dead Silence 2
oh! Oh!!!! I got a good one!!!!! ...... I Am Legend 2 :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I hope that he is wrong about one thing....Pop possibly being re-branded into a moderate. I would really hate to see that happen. With hourglass lake, I could see them changing the class rating if they re-make the theming.

I couldnt agree with this more! POP is our favorite resort and I am not interested in staying at a moderate. I think if they were smart they would make that side family suites and then maybe they could match the capacity of the other values with suites. In the article, they claim POP has much lower capacity than AS. Obviously this has never happened when I was there. It always seems PACKED (ex: food court in the am)! WDW has plenty of other options if someone doesnt like the theme of the resort. No one in my family, regardless of age, has ever been put off by the sight of a giant big wheel lol.
