Photographing Pets

hjd0411....I am so sorry for your loss. I have two 17 year old cats that I know I will have to go through what you are going through. My prayers are with you. You did the right thing but I know it was so hard to do. Pets touch us in a way that warms our hearts. God Bless.

I don't have a nice camera like you guys do (but now I want one;)) but I wanted to share pictures of my 5 month old puppy.

I love the pics of everyone's animals.

Well thanks to this board we purchased a fancy camera and I Daisys DH am still incapable of getting a good pic worthy of posting!:wizard:

hjd0411 so sorry to hear that you had to put Skye down. I know that feeling when it something sudden. I am not sure if its any easier when you have time to prepare. Just know nothing will ever remove the pawprints she has left all over your hearts

hjd0411, I am so sorry for your loss. She was such a beautiful dog. On a related note though, I do have one question for everyone on here. Whenever you hear of a fellow DISer or fellow pet owner losing a friend like this, do you find yourself overly emotional for the next few days?? Ever since I heard about this, I have become emotional towards my own dog who is barely even one year old and in good health. But I find myself thinking about that dreadful reality that is hopefully years away, and it almost brings me to tears. We become so close to our pets that it doesn't seem fair that we only get to spend such a short time with them. I've even been asking myself this week if I would ever get another pet after this one because the heartache will be too much. I know so much one here especially, we focus on the photography of our pets but I wanted to kind of touch on this subject so that it might help others and myself deal with this. :sad1:

 I'm sorry about your precious dog.

The dog in your avatar is beautiful as well.

Thank you. :flower3: She was a special one! The dog in my avatar is Charlotte, my German Shepherd. She is nearly 5 now, and is not quite sure what is going on at the moment, but she is staying very close.

Aww, Heather, I'm so sorry about Skye. She was beautiful. :sad1:

Thanks Linda :flower3: - she was gorgeous! When we got her she was 5 weeks old and had no teeth!! I haven't been able to read your poem yet, but I will copy it and keep it for later. I know that if I read it now I won't be able to get ready to go to work!!

Thanks PhotobearSam :flower3:. I know I had been thinking for a couple of years that Skye would be not with us for too much longer, but, as I have said to my lovely friends, no matter how prepared you think you might be for this to happen, you never are. But I think of the good times and laughs that she gave us.
hjd, so sorry for your loss.:flower3:

Thank you :flower3:

Thank you Sha :flower3: That is so true! We love them so much, and they love us unconditionally.

Thank you RBennett :flower3: I do find myself very emotional like you. I have another dog who is nearly 5 (Charlotte) and I have looked at her over the last few days thinking about her going, too (hopefully in the very far off future). But I couldn't be without her - she has been so loving - she came over and licked my face when I was crying for Skye, as if to say "It's OK Mum, I'm here to help you". I know some people get a new pet almost straight away after they lose an old friend, but I don't think I could do that. But that doesn't mean that I wouldn't get another dog. I love the companionship and I think the years of love that you get from them far outweighs the grief that you feel when they are gone. Everyone is different, I know, and you will know what is right for you at the time. But when you see those brown puppy eyes and smell that puppy, milky breath - it melts my heart!! :lovestruc

Thank you to everyone who has sent their wishes . It means so much that people I don't even really know, care enough to comment. Skye will be sadly missed, but I know it will get easier to think of her, without tears. A great big hug and pat to all your fur babies - and I still love to see everyone's photos - they are special little people in our lives and they are treasured for ever.

Here he is checking out the geese flying by.

This is a 5 month old puppy????? Oh my!!!!

I have had a sad day today - I had to have my dear little Skye put to sleep. She has been with us for 18 years, and was most definitely the leader of my small pack! :)
She had been off colour for a couple of days, but was very listless on Sunday, and on Sunday night I discovered a very large and hard lump in her tummy that the vet thought could be a tumour on her mammary gland. (She showed no sign of that until Sunday.) She was in some discomfort, so we decided that the best thing for her was to end her discomfort.
As I write this through many tears that have been shed for her, I firmly believe that she is now much more comfortable, and back to her lively younger self where she can see, hear and run in the grass like she did.
I will miss her every day.

I am so very sorry for your loss. It amazes me that I am sitting here shedding tears for a dog I have never met and yet, I know how devestating it is to lose your beloved pet. My heart goes out to you. Our time together with them is never long enough.

hid0411 I am truly sorry for the loss of your friend. I was at my sister's today playing in the snow and couldn't help but get some of her kiddos (my sister has 8 dog's-kiddos) playing out in the snow too. I hope you have a better day tomorrow!

Thank you DznyDreamz - I cry too when I read about other dogs - probably because I have been in that situation. Thank you for your thoughts.

I'm so sorry. I just saw this today. :sad1:
Thanks MichelleVW - she has left a big hole in my heart for a little dog!

Thank you tlcmommy - each day does get better, I will say. My dogs have never experienced snow (and probably never will here!! ;)) but I'm sure Charlotte (my German Shepherd) would love frolicking!

How cute are those puppies!! Love them..!!

She was so beautiful. Her eyes just shone with intelligence!

But yes, RBennett, I am always deeply emotional when a loved animal dies. I look at my 10 y.o. Augusta and I can't let myself think even for a moment of how I will ever cope when I lose her or my sweet Grace. I can't begin to tell you how much they mean to me or how much I love them.

Yet, I would never, ever deprive myself of the sweet, perfect joy of the company of a dog (in my case, a Labrador Retriever) just because I so intensely dread their loss. To miss the opportunity to see their smiles, the touch of their soft fur, their smell, the sound of their excited barks and whine would be the ultimate tragedy. Every moment that I spent in their company is so worth the intensity of the pain and sadness that I have felt before and that I will certainly feel again. I can't live without a dog any more easily than I could live without water, food or air.

And so, I try to keep in mind the words of Theodore Geisel, (Dr Seuss)
"Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened"

Gentle hugs to HJD0411 and those who will ever grieve the loss of such a perfect love.

Laura

I just found this thread here are 2 of my 3 pets. Nikki is a Shepherd/Boxer and Simba is the cat in the background. Nikki was supposed to be my little lapdog. My son told me that boxers are little. She's a 60 pound lapdog
