May 2, 2014 - A WONDERous trip through the Locks WBPC

Hi All,
Bruce and I are going to sign up for this cruise in a few weeks while we are on our Med cruise. I have been watching this thread popcorn:: with envy as the PC is a bucket list trip for me. I will be retiring right before the cruise, and wanted to do something RIGHT AWAY, and leave work behind. I have worked my whole life...since I was 13...it is too weird to contemplate not going to work. Anyway, I figure the PC trip is the right way to retire!!!

Looking forward to chocolate, tequila, fish extenders, etc. on the way thru the PC.

Hello all.:cool1: I hope ev everyone is having:dance3: a great day for a Monday. And as always caryy on.

In terms of transport & travel details for next year's cruise...

We are going to take a one-way flight to FLL, then SAS to the hotel. We'll skip queueing early at the port for upgrade & check-in...and opt to board after the staterooms are ready. Our family has never had an embarkation photo, it is a definite must next year!

The girls were talking about this cruise in the car this morning, "why does it cost money to go on a cruise when everything is free on the ship?" :confused3

Well last night I upgraded our room from a 11A to a 5B. It was still with 20% off and less than a hundred a night to do so. With a lot of verandah categories slowly disappearing, I am getting scared that this cruise will not be offered at a CM rate or the airline rate and maybe the VGT rate. As for transport. Flying to FLL then a car from Alamo then free shuttle from Alamo at MIA to the port.

Alan, I was thinking this onboard 20% off offer is to try to get the bookings up early so they don't have to do the fabulous offers/rates that happened this year. Better for DCL at 20% off than almost 50%!

I see that many of you are flying to FLL. Doing a search around the possible dates/times (can't be exact because the dates don't go that far out on United yet), I can see that it's about $150 cheaper pp for us. $900! Wow, would've never thought to do it that way. Thanks for the tip! Even if we limo it to the port, we are still saving huge. Thank you!

Plus for us, it allows us to fly SWA, much better luggage policy.

Everyone seems to love SWA. Too bad their map doesn't go a little more to the left haha. For now, we are stuck with United (we fly the same airline all the time to get Premier status).

Hi all. The DW and I are also hoping for SWA out of Dallas to Mia also. As everyone has said the fly rates and reserv are not posted this fard out. Soon though, real soon.:confused3

How far is the drive from Fort Lauderdale to Miami? With only two airline tickets to balance out the cost of a rental car/gas/time, I'm wondering if it's as worth it.

If I'm not mistaken, it was 25 miles/30 min. versus 7 miles/15 min. from MIA. Well worth it for us, because we have so many people (6).

Not going to happen. If you want to use SWA you will have to fly to Ft. Lauderdale and have to make at least one stop that may or may not involve a change of planes.

When we did the drive it took a hour, but that was because of traffic on I-95. We left out hotel in Ft. Lauderdale about 8:30 and got to the car rental facility at MIA about 9:30 with a stop right by the car rental facility to get gas. We were on a shuttle and heading for the port at 10.

We'll be flying in the day before and staying somewhere by the port. Looks like the FLL & SAS option might work out cheapest and easiest. Good to know, now just have to wait for SW calender to catch up. Don't they know we have vacations to plan? :)

This last PC cruise we flew to FLL as we were flying from New York on JetBlue. We really liked JetBlue. Previously in the US we have used Southwest and were very happy with them, particularly with the baggage allowance, but after the cruise we wanted to fly back to NY from a more local airport to Disneyland so we chose Jetblue for both flight this time. With JetBlue you get 1 bag free and pay $40 for the second but you can look at prices to compare overall costs. Might not be much difference. Free drinks and snacks too.

We used Go Airport shuttle from FLL as we were told SAS didn't now go to South Beach where we were staying. We booked an individual car though I believe they do multi passenger transport too. It was excellent and we would use them again. It didn't seem to take long at all to get to South Beach. Very nice car and driver.

It was great using the smaller airports.
