May 2, 2014 - A WONDERous trip through the Locks WBPC

We WILL be on a Panama Canal cruise on DCL but now not sure when :'(

I hope so. I don't really want to give more bad news, but on this last WBPC I was talking to the retired Panama Canal pilot in the Outlook Cafe. I asked him if he had heard from people he still knows there how the expansion is going and if it will be done next year as advertised. He said if they were done by 2015 it would be a surprise as they are still 17 months behind. So this maybe the last WBPC with DCL for a few years. If they make the same changes they make to the Magic to Wonder, and there is no reason to think they are not going to, the ship will get 20 more feet in length thus making it to big for the current set of locks. Still your dad and family is way more important than a Panama Canal cruise. All my best.

Just letting you know that we may or may not be on this cruise. My dad has just had emergency surgery to save his life. He has a highly aggressive brain tumour and he has been given 6-12 months . He of course was the reason why we were contemplating this cruise.

I am absolutely heartbroken at the news and will have to see what happens in the next few months. Devastated.

I am so sorry about your dad. Please let us know how he is doing.

Can I ask about that 20 feet in length?
I know the Magic got widened by 20 feet (because of the slide) but they added 20 feet to the length?

So sorry to hear that. We had to cancel this year because DH had a stroke less than a month from departure. I still have all of our cruise prep in the dining room. Probably will leave it there until we confirm a booking on this cruise. If anyone finds a good deal... I'm listening.

I must have missed something... How are you getting the 20% discount?

We got 20% off when we booked on Wonder. They had/have special for all repo cruises with 20% discounted prices when you book onboard.

They are adding what is called a "Duck Tail" to the stern at the waterline. I was told its due to the weight that they are adding to the ship it's needed to balance things out. So with this addition to the stern the Magic and most likely the Wonder will be to big to go through the current locks.

We are just off the Magic with Bobbi, too! It was a great cruise with many awesome DISers! We rebooked this cruise and saved the 20%.

I am so so so glad we are doing this one. I've mentioned that it's on my bucket list, but now hearing that DCL may not do it for some time, I am thrilled to be able to go.

Now I just have to justify booking the WBTA in September 2014. My problem is my kids missing so much school. They missed over three weeks this year (1st grade), and will miss at least three weeks of 2nd grade. I guess I can say that it'll be a new school year for the WBTA so it's okay???

Fantastic, thanks for the info. I have seen these around, but the name threw me a curve - this is one thing I hope doesn't take like chicken! The ingredients sound fantastic. This calls for some research!

Doubtful. By law she has to go to Drydock next year.

Hi dennes. So sorry to hear about your dad. It is a lot to take in all at once. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and your family in this moment of pain. We hope you will make it to the cruise if your dad gets better. I am sure the entire group is saddened by the news.

Anyone receive their 20% off for booking onboard the Dream or Fantasy? My boyfriend is on the Dream right now and asked about the 20% off for this cruise and future sales said they hadn't heard of this discount. I'm bummed because I will be on the Fantasy in a few weeks. I'm afraid to wait and book in August when I will be on the Wonder just in case the offer disappears.

Oh ok...then Wonder will stay West or there will be no Alaskan cruises till PC's new locks are open....

The Wonder goes back to FL next Sept. next Oct she disappears from the schedules, most likely going to Drydock for 6 weeks like the magic. So it will be no Alaska unless the canal gets done. I hate this news as we are really hoping they would do Hawaii again in 2015.
